Chapter 39: Chapter 39
My head was suddenly banging hard as I forced it to remember the past as it was crystal clear something had happened when I was hunted by those pack warriors, which I couldn't remember again. Now I have no doubt that Lola saved me, but why I can't remember it is something hard for me to understand.
All I can remember is being chased a few days ago when I snuck into this pack in my vampire nature, only hiding my scent and putting on a hood. Nothing else!
How Iater survived that day was no longer registered in my head, which was so strange.
I lay my head on the desk with closed eyes as I kept racking my brain and suffering more headaches, which seemed like they would sear out my eyes. Everything seemed to be spinning around me, forcing me to grunt as all my efforts to recall weren't showing any results.
I thought of shoving everything out of my mind, but the urge to recall what Lola had done for me was so strong. If she had betrayed the wolf community to save just me, then I would owe her my life. It kept ringing in my head that this might be the reason why I felt so attracted to her at first sight.
Could it be that my mother blocked my memories with Lola using her witch powers so I wouldn't fall in love with her?
I thought deeply, arching my brows, as that seemed to be the only idea that sounded reasonable. That can only be the reason why I can't remember when Lola saved me or even recall if we had met before. She had mentioned saving me at the school clinic, and now Sophia had said the same.
There is something my mother must have done!
"Jason, you aren't saying anything? Do you really hear what I said? Or are you not from the werewolf community?" Sophia's voice shot into my ears, breaking me off from the realm of deep thoughts as i flinched a bit at her last statement.
When I returned my gaze to her, I noticed her eyes staring at me in an inexplicable way. I cast a quick glance around and also saw every student looking at me in surprise and confusion.
"What do you mean, Sophia? He is my long time friend from a neighboring pack. How will you ask if he was a wolf? Not like you can smell his wolf scent! " Jason snorted, but was ignored totally by Sophia, who wouldn't shift her gaze from my face for a second.
"Hey, Jason, I don't mind punching your teeth if you yell at my mate!" Torian lashed back at him, taking heavy steps forward in fury.
"You can do nothing, you dick head!"
Everyone was shocked to the core as Jace blurted those words at Torian. The whole attention of the students shifted from me to him. I was also stunned, wondering where he got such courage to curse the Alpha prince.
He looked so angry with veins appearing along his temples, neck, and arms.
"You said that to me?" Torian's deep voice, which was a scary growl, revebrated through the silent classroom as he stalked toward Jace with a smirk that pulled up his lips at that moment.
"Jace, what has come over you?" His mate whimpered as she held his hand, tugging it.
"You should be asking that to Torian. Something is definitely wrong with him! Something has come over him, making me so stupid!" Jace bawled and Torian laughed out loud in a threatening way before glancing back at Lola with a smug smile.
Jace's POV.
I don't know where the courage came from. I had said it before I could push it back, and there was no way I was going to take it back. I had walked into the class now to see Lola bleeding, with bruises and cuts all over her body. Even her hair seemed to had be grabbed tight and roughly that blood was trickling down her forehead.
Torian was at it again, beating Lola, his mate, like she was an animal. Her teary eyes and swollen lips was hurting me deep in my soul. I can remember when she was that pretty and intelligent girl I was proud of meeting and being friends with.
She was a perfect figure, and I longed to see her as the next Luna. Seeing her being treated this way pushed me to the wall, and I was ready to fight Torian with all I got. It pains me most to see that he wasn't in his right sense. Something was wrong as his hatred for Lola began just when Sophia came into his life.
He was taking daring steps towards me, yet I had no fear. My mate was already trembling and whimpering beside me, but I was too pained to take back my words.
"She is the reason you are going against me." Torian giggled after staring at Lola for some minutes.
"Stop hitting her! Just stop! Aren't you ashamed? She is a weak girl, yet you keep battering her. Is that a way to show your muscles?" I gritted with a scoff as I was so disgusted at the new Torian.
All his friends couldn't believe their ears, especially Don. All their eyes were on me.
"Are you in love with the betrayal, Lola, or your mate? You seem to be more into her than Bella," Don chipped in from the corner where he was sitting.
"If you don't stay quiet like others, you will lose one of your arms." I threatened, casting a daring look at him. I hope he doesn't think I am joking, because I won't fail my words if he dares me.
"That's the aura of the Beta.... Remember, the Alpha is here too, " Torian laughed, tauntingly.
"What about making Lola lose one of her arms just like he threatened? Not only that, poke out her eyes. She will be less of a headache to me when she is blind and handicapped!" Sophia finally spoke out after looking at Jason all this time.
I saw Jason shudder at her statement. His gaze stuck at Torian like he was trying to figure out if he would do it.
"Anything you say is what I will do in an instant." Torian replied, smiling sheepishly before rushing at the trembling Lola on the ground. No one in the class made any attempt to stop him, not even the teacher that just walked in to teach.
This was Torian, the next Alpha. No one could stand against him.
"Don't you try to do that!" I warned him, and he only glanced at me with a smirk.
"Come and stop me if you can..." He chuckled and grabbed her by her hair, pulling her up till her feet were off the ground.
In a rage, I attacked Torian. It was a suicidal mission, but I couldn't stand by and watch Lola lose her eyes and arm. No, I can't!
"Jace..." Bella faint voice was all I could hear before a punch from Torian's right fist hit my head. It was too fast for me to dodge. I fell to the ground with a loud groan. Through the painful moment, I watched Lola struggling to release herself while pleading and crying so painfully. Blood was pouring down her face from her head.
I forced myself up, coughing out blood and grunting as my head had swollen from Torian's powerful punch. Bella hurried to me, stopping me from trying to stop Torian.
It hurts me intensely that Torian has turned so coldhearted and cruel to this extent. I can't lay my hand on what exactly Lola did to him. Why would he put her in such a pathetic condition of being blind.
I glanced at Sophia and she was looking at Jason, who had his gaze on Lola. His expression was queer. I didn't expect him to help Lola, not when he is a vampire in disguise. He won't care about any werewolf life. He had helped Lola before out of pity. I think that little pity is gone.
"Let's see how pretty you'd look with closed eyes," Torian teased with a wicked smile, while Sophia snickered from behind.
"Please... please.." Lola kept pleading and crying, wagging her head vigorously as his fingers turned to claws, drawing closer to her face.
"Someone should help!!!" Lola screamed again, tiredly, with heavy breath as she kept blinking and trying hard to save herself.
Torian had her pulled off the ground with his left hand through her hair, which was very painful as her weight pulled down the skin on his head, letting it sear bloodily.
Torian fired two punches to her nose to make her stop shaking her head, which was successful as she went limp. Everyone saw how blood spurted out of her mouth and how her chin got swollen and reddish.
My eyes glimpsed at Sophia and I saw her hovering her left thumb over a ring on a finger on her right hand while smirking evilly.
It was the darkest moment of my life as I saw his sharp claws raised and drawn to the socket of her eyes.
"Blake! Can't you remember this? " The limped Lola suddenly bawled, her shrill voice breaking through the walls and pillars as she raised her finger and displayed a ring on her finger to Jason.
Wait, she just called out his real name?
"Lola!!!" A thunderous voice, so deep and scary, called out, shaking the walls and instilling terror in everyone. Tracing the voice, it was from Jason, but the man I was seeing wasn't really him anymore.
He has shifted into his vampire nature, so huge and frightening.
