Chapter 432: Chapter 432
At breakfast, everyone was quietly eating.
The Wu family upheld the rule of no talking during meals or sleep.
With his wife not home, Mr. Wu found the meal tasteless; after a few bites, he said he was going to find Mr. Kang for a game of chess and left.
At the table, only Xu Meng and her husband and Wu Pingxuan and her husband remained, while Wu Fei had already gone out.
Wu Fei’s parents were working overtime at the hospital.
Xu Meng ate silently, planning to leave as soon as she finished, to visit her son at the hospital.
There was a lot to do today.
Wu Pingxuan hesitated to speak, feeling awkward about her sister-in-law’s attitude.
She gathered courage from Meng Ran’s encouraging look.
"Sister-in-law, it was my fault yesterday. I spoke without thinking and didn’t mean what I said."
Upon saying it, she felt much relieved.
Xu Meng was surprised, looking at her sister-in-law suspiciously.
A sister-in-law’s apology?
"Actually, I was in the wrong too, speaking too harshly today."
Xu Meng replied halfheartedly. Since the other party apologized, she felt she should respond. But was Wu Pingxuan really someone who would sincerely apologize?
"Sister-in-law, I truly messed up. If you put it like that, I really want to find a hole in the ground to hide in."
Her sister-in-law’s face showed dissatisfaction, and the forgiveness clearly wasn’t sincere.
Xu Meng put down her bowl and chopsticks, not wanting to cause trouble but feeling a bit scared.
"Sis, if you have something to say, just say it. This makes me uneasy, and it’s uncomfortable for you too."
There was always a feeling of being sold out.
Wu Pingxuan was amused.
Her sister-in-law had strong opinions about her, evident from her defensive attitude.
"Sister-in-law, I’m sincerely apologizing. Your attitude makes it seem like I’m some unreasonable shrew in your eyes."
Xu Meng thought, "Aren’t you?"
But she couldn’t say it aloud, receiving a subtle look from her husband—it was his sister.
"I know you’re not; I didn’t expect my sister to figure it out overnight, which surprises me."
Xu Meng finished eating, wiped her mouth, and prepared to pick up Jiang Xiaoxiao.
Anything could be delayed, but not Doctor Jiang’s matters—failing would mean failing her son’s life.
She noticed how Xiao Cheng’s spirits had been improving each day; standing by the window, he watched the street traffic outside and sometimes played games for long hours.
Xu Meng only hoped her son could recover completely, at least be like other kids, able to run, jump, and go to school, without being alone watching others, his longing eyes making her heartache.
"Ready? Let’s go then."
Xu Meng spoke to Wu Pingjing.
The couple had to pick up Jiang Xiaoxiao themselves.
They would not leave it to anyone else.
Wu Pingjing put down his chopsticks, "Ready, let’s go. Sister, brother-in-law, we have to meet Doctor Jiang to get a look at Xiao Cheng; you go find your plans today. If you need a car, just ask Old Wu, she will arrange it for you."
Old Wu was their housekeeper.
Wu Pingxuan hurried to stand, "Brother-in-law, sister-in-law, I’ll go with you. I want to meet that Doctor Jiang and see who this formidable figure is, who even has my brother and sister-in-law deeply impressed."
Xu Meng’s heart sank again, sensing Wu Pingxuan’s apology had ulterior motives.
Indeed, causing trouble unnecessarily.
"Sis, don’t go. You don’t really like Doctor Jiang’s traditional remedies, so it would be dull if you went."
Xu Meng worried Wu Pingxuan might offend Jiang Xiaoxiao!
Wu Pingxuan glanced at Meng Ran, who smiled.
"Brother-in-law, sister-in-law, to be honest, we really want to see Doctor Jiang. You know we haven’t had children all these years, and we want to see if Doctor Jiang has any methods.
Rest assured, sister-in-law, we won’t go offending anyone. We discussed it last night; since brother and sister-in-law believe in Doctor Jiang, why shouldn’t we? We trust brother and sister-in-law. If Doctor Jiang can cure heart disease, maybe there’s a way to fix our infertility."
Xu Meng was astonished; Meng Ran and Wu Pingxuan usually avoided discussing their condition in public, yet today they openly addressed their infertility issue.
It was simply a miracle.
But as the sister-in-law, she praised Jiang Xiaoxiao extensively, claiming the ancestral remedies were easy to handle, almost guaranteeing to cure all illnesses, and even promised to take a friend for infertility treatment today.
She can bring a friend but not her sister-in-law, which seems unreasonable.
But she was genuinely worried about Wu Pingxuan’s mouth.
Wu Pingxuan saw her sister-in-law’s dilemma, and grasped Xu Meng’s arm, "Sister-in-law, my careless words offend you often, please forgive me. I know you trust Doctor Jiang very much; if I go, I’ll mind my words.
I certainly won’t say anything offensive. Taking me will be an eye-opening experience; maybe your Doctor Jiang can really cure my ailment. If I can actually have a child, I’ll beat the drum and present a banner to your Doctor Jiang.
Treat your Doctor Jiang as a benefactor for life; sister-in-law, help us!"
Wu Pingxuan had said everything, and if Xu Meng refused, it would be unreasonable.
She could only smile and pat her sister-in-law’s hand. Since she got married into this family, her sister-in-law had never been this close.
"Alright, let’s go take a look, and didn’t I tell you yesterday that a friend is also desperate for help, wanting Doctor Jiang to see if they can have a child."
The family of four set off, picking up Xu Meng’s friend Ningshan, and three cars headed to the Jiang family.
Jiang Xiaoxiao was preparing to visit Xiao Cheng at the hospital, and then return to live at the Song family with Song Moting.
Fan Xiuying and Jiang Laoshi were reluctant but knew they had no choice, as a married daughter belonged to her in-laws and couldn’t keep staying at her natal home.
Even though the old gentleman and lady were understanding, they couldn’t overstay.
Moreover, Jiang Xiaoxiao was now pregnant with the Song family’s great-grandchild, and the Song family valued Song Moting highly, which the couple was well aware of.
In addition, Jiang Xiaoxiao was about to start school, and the medical university was closer to Old Mrs. Song’s residence.
It was more convenient, much more so than their home.
Though reluctant, the couple gave reminders repeatedly, preparing to send their daughter and son-in-law off.
The car was packed with large and small bags, filled with Xu Meng’s favorite foods, almost transporting their home with them.
Song Moting made lemon water for Jiang Xiaoxiao, who loved sweet and sour things; drinking this water helped her throw up less.
Song Moting had figured this out over the last few days.
Jiang Xiaoxiao’s taste had changed a lot; she liked spicy and sour things, which made Fan Xiuying murmur, remarking on how it’s said that sour favours boys and spicy favours girls, pondering what her daughter might be.
They were also waiting for the Wu family’s car.
Last night, Jiang Xiaoxiao had told Song Moting about Old Mrs. Wu and Uncle Wu’s visit, without saying much else, and Song Moting didn’t mind.
The Wu family valued Jiang Xiaoxiao, yet this Uncle Wu rarely appeared before others.
Song Moting cared not about others, just about his wife and child.
He never imagined Jiang Xiaoxiao had such a connection with the Wu family.
