Chapter 97: Chapter 97

Blood oozed out of her stabbed chest as she slumped on the ground.

“This should teach you a lesson in hell. Don't you dare get any close to what is mine.”

Rebecca's words kept resounding in her ears as she jumped up from the bed, sweating profusely.

Valerie quickly placed her hand on her chest to check if she was really bleeding from the stab.

“It was a dream! It was a dream!!” She panted heavily. Glancing at the wall clock, it was 5am.

Fear gripped her. She couldn't go back to sleep for fear that she might be stabbed to death by Rebecca. Still lost in thought, her cell phone beeped.

Reluctantly, she picked it up and stared at the message she had just received. It was from her father.

“It's my birthday this Saturday. Your stepmother will be throwing me a party. I hope you can attend, child.”

Exhaling deeply, she shook her head. She had already forgotten that it was her father's birthday anniversary this weekend. Countless things had been going on that she had forgotten very vital things.

“I need to prepare a birthday gift for my father. I have only three days to do that.” She mumbled.

Valerie continued her thoughts and fell asleep on the couch.

The sun rays directly from the window glass, straight to get eyes. She tossed from one side of the couch to the other, and opened her eyes slowly as she perceived an aroma.

“Yum!” She mumbled as she yanked the duvet off her body. She gasped on seeing someone standing in front of her.

Were her eyes deceiving her? Is this really President Ethan standing in front of her with a tray of breakfast?

“President Ethan?”

He smirked, walking close to her and dropped the tray on the stool close to the bed. “Good morning, baby mama.”

“I… How… How may I help you? What are you… What are you doing here?” She stuttered, grabbing the duvet to her chest. The nightwear she was putting on was skimpy, revealing her cleavages.

Ethan smiled mischievously, scanning her body with his eyes. “Isn't it obvious? Is it wrong for me to get breakfast for my baby mama?”

“Baby mama? You… I… I doubt that's necessary. Furthermore, I can get the food by myself, you don't have to bother yourself.” Valerie forced a smile at him.

“Too bad! I can't take the food back. Here, eat up. You shouldn't let it go cold.” Ethan said as Valerie wrapped the duvet and got up from the bed.

With that, she picked up the tray and smiled mildly. “Toasted bread and scrambled eggs? How did you know this is my favorite?”

“Why won't I know that? You've been working here for the past year. If I'm not mistaken, I'm attentive.” Ethan smiled.

Valerie bit her lip hard. She raised her head and saw Ethan still smiling and staring at her. She felt butterflies in her stomach.

“You… Why are you still here, Sir? I'm already eating breakfast, why are you still here?” She almost choked.

Rolling his eyes, Ethan snorted. “Can't I watch you eat?”

“What?”

“Eat up. Don't ask any further questions.”

Valerie nodded her head in agreement. “Okay!”

“Hello, Dad. I got your message last night.” Valerie spoke into the phone's speaker.

“Yes, Val. It's my birthday on Saturday. I just hope you can attend, my dear.” Her father's voice came from the other end.

After a few minutes of silence, she responded. “I'll be there, Dad.”

With that, she hung up and dropped her phone on the kitchen cabinet. Turning on the gas cooker, she placed a pot on it.

She was going to make oatmeal for her daughter, Audrey. Humming an unknown song, she started.

“Mommy?”

Without hesitation, she turned swiftly and found her adorable daughter, smiling broadly at her. “Baby, Why are you here? Have you forgotten that your daddy doesn't let you into the kitchen?”

“That was before he found out that you're my mother. Now, I can come into the kitchen with you, mommy.” Audrey chuckled.

Valerie couldn't help but giggle. She flashed back to when she was just a nanny to Audrey. Who would have thought that one day, she'd take care of her and her mother. How time flies! “I'm preparing oatmeal for you, Audrey. You can wait in the dining room, okay?”

“No!” She pouted her mouth.

“Why?”

“I want to help you, Mommy.”

Valerie shook her head. “I wonder whom you got your stubbornness from. Of course, I'm not stubborn.”

“Mommy, can I come with you to the birthday party?” Audrey held her wrist.

Bulging her eyes out in shock, Valerie snapped. “How… How did you know that I was going to a birthday party?”

“I heard you say it when you were answering the call. Besides, I really want to see your daddy, my grandpa.” Audrey bit her lip.

“You… You little naughty girl, why were you eavesdropping on me?” Valerie touched her ear and she chuckled.

Audrey continued. “Can I come, mommy?”

“I don't have the capability of making that decision. You just have to pray hard so that your Daddy will grant you the permission to come with me.” Valerie said.

“Okay, Mom.”

Later that evening, Valerie and Audrey stood in front of President Ethan's room door. Valerie's heart was racing so fast.

“I'm nervous, Audrey. What if your daddy doesn't agree to it? Oh, dear.” Valerie gulped nervously.

Audrey scratched her hair. “Mom, you wouldn't know if you don't try. Please, mommy, I really want to come with you.”

“Okay. You can go to your room. I'll go ahead and talk to your daddy. If he agrees, I'll let you know, okay?” Valerie replied.

With that, Audrey kissed her. “Thank you, Mom.” Before she ran off.

Breathing hard, Valerie tried to summon courage. “Calm down, Valerie. It's just asking to take your child with you. That shouldn't be a big deal, right?”

She tried to peep into the room through the peephole on the door, but the door swung open, and she fell into the room. President Ethan caught her in his arms.

She stared directly into his blue eyes, down to his soft lips. She found herself gulping in admiration of his delicate lips.

“Are you going to stand up or do you want to keep checking me out?”
