Chapter 74: Chapter 74
President Ethan paced around restlessly as he sipped the glass of wine he was holding. He couldn't get his mind off the conversation he had with Valerie that afternoon.
“Valerie's child has the same birthday as Audrey? Is this still a coincidence? Valerie also had the child through surrogacy. How is it possible that the child Valerie is talking about is the same as Audrey?”
He kept thinking hard. There was no way he would believe that he would ever run into the mother of Audrey.
He shook his head in disbelief. “I think I'm the only one getting this twisted, there is no way Valerie is Audrey's mother, right?”
The door creaked open and Mr. Dan, President Ethan's assistant, walked in. “Good day, President Ethan.”
“What is it, Mr. Dan? Don't tell me you can't handle things when I'm not around? I'm really not in the right state of mind to take care of anything concerning work.” Ethan snapped at him.
After a few minutes of silence, Dan continued. “It's… it's not about work, Sir.”
“Not about work? What is it, then?” Ethan raised his brows.
Clearing his throat noisily, Dan replied. “Actually, your cousin Nicole told me to provide you this information. He asked me to inform you that he would like to take care of Miss Watson by himself, and that she'll be back at the mansion in three days.”
“Three days?” Ethan almost screamed his voice out.
Dan blinked his eyes rapidly. “Y… yes, sir.”
President Ethan scoffed. “Who the f*** Does that, huh? She is my employee, and he has no right to keep her with him.”
“I… I'm only delivering the message he told me to.” Mr. Dan mumbled.
President Ethan couldn't hide his annoyance. Why does Nicole keep clinging to Valerie? Why won't he let her be? He was burning with rage.
“My car keys, now.” He half yelled at Mr. Dan, who flinched in fear.
Poor Mr. Dan rushed to the drawer, brought out the keys and handed them to Ethan, who was still fuming.
“Where are… where are you going, President?” Mr. Dan stuttered.
Ethan halted, and turned to Dan, who was looking as startled as ever. “I have to speak with Nicole. Why do you ask? Do you also think that it is fair for Nicole to keep Valerie with him?”
“Uhm… President Ethan, I think that will be better for her, Miss Watson. I mean… instead of granting her a leave to recover, letting her stay with her good friend, Mr. Nicole is not a bad idea.” Mr. Dan forced a smile at Ethan.
Shocked, Ethan popped his eyes out in annoyance. “You also think I'm not fit to take care of Miss Watson, huh?”
“You want to take care of her?, She's just Audrey's nanny, and there's no way you'll be the one caring for her, right?” Dan snapped.
Ethan gulped hard. “Mr. Dan, do you really love your job or do you badly want to lose it?”
Mr. Dan gasped in shock. “Of course, Sir. I love my job.”
“The best thing you can do is to keep your mouth shut. You have delivered the message, haven't you?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Get lost, then.”
With that, Mr. Dan rushed out of the room in fear. In all his years working as President Ethan's assistant, he has never seen him this furious and possessive, except when it comes to his daughter, Audrey.
“Why does he care so much about a mere nanny that he even threatened to terminate my contract? That's absurd!” He thought as he walked down the stairs.
Then, his eyes caught with the beautiful cleaner who he had always had his eyes on. It was Clara. Smiles escaped his lips, and he quickly buttoned up his shirt, and brushed his hair backwards.
“Hey, Clara.” He tickled his, and she turned swiftly at him, feigning annoyance.
“What is wrong with you, Daniel? How dare you touch me?” Clara rolled her eyes at him.
Touching his beards, Dan continued. “Come on, Clara. You really don't want to consider my proposal, do you?”
Clara snorted. “I don't know what you're talking about, Dan. What makes you think I'll have my eyes on someone like you? You're just President Ethan's assistant, stop feeling like you're President Ethan himself.”
“What's the difference between both of us? We are both men, and I work hand in hand with him. I'm definitely going to give you everything you want and more.” Dan replied.
Clara sighed. “I'm very busy, Dan. I don't have time to blab with you. I think it will be best for you to go on the errand President Ethan sent you. Likewise, I'm too pretty to keep talking about petty things with you.”
Feeling humiliated, Dan scoffed. “You really consider yourself to be pretty just because I've been pleading with you to accept my proposal? How despicable! If you're so pretty, then why didn't you get the President's attention just like the nanny, Valerie, did?”
“What?” Clara narrowed her eyes.
Dan rolled his eyes, and walked away. “You heard me.”
Clara scratched her head, confused. “President Ethan likes Valerie? How?”
Meanwhile, President Ethan speeded out of the compound, still burning with rage.
“Why won't Valerie want me to take care of her? I'm actually the best person she should be with. I'm the reason she twisted her ankle in the first place, but she chose to stay with Nicole. Is that how much she hates my company?” He kept on mumbling.
In a few minutes, he drove into Nicole's apartment and parked his car in the garage. He pressed the doorbell three consecutive times before the door swung open.
“Who is…?” It was Valerie who limped over to open the door for him. She paused on seeing him.
Ethan grabbed her arms, and asked anxiously. “You really pick Nicole over me? Is that how horrible you think of me?”
On the other hand, confused Valerie stared at him with her jaw dropped. “What are you talking about, Sir?”
