Chapter 7: Chapter 7
The next day, which was Valerie's first day at work. She got up very early in the morning… She wouldn't be late on her first day.
Walking downstairs, she met Susan, who was serving breakfast at the dinning. “What's with your outfit? You should change into something more fashionable”.
Valerie sighed tiredly, and scratched her head. “Really? This isn't good?”
Susan glared at her, scoffed and replied, “Of course not. You should know where you'll be working now, young lady”.
“Anyway, I'll be getting my working uniforms today. There'll be no need for the 'old-fashioned' dresses” Valerie rolled her eyes, and walked back into her room.
Then she thought of the little girl, Audrey. Her lips curved into a smile, she didn't want the little girl to tell her she looks old-fashioned too.
A few minutes later, she was already in a cab heading to the Davison's estate. In no time, she got to the mansion.
“Good morning” She greeted the brutal looking security guard, and he nodded his head before showing her in.
“Does this mean that no one smiles here?” She thought within herself, and shrugged it off the moment she stepped into the mansion.
She looked around confused as she saw no one. “Why is this place so deserted? I can't even remember where I should go from here”.
She was still contemplating within herself when someone tapped her. She turned swiftly, and saw the old lady right behind her. “Oh, Good morning, lady Veronica” She greeted her with a wide smile.
“Good morning— What's your name again?” She took off her glasses, and stared at me.
“It's Valerie”
“Oh Valerie. Follow me, you need to get your working uniform, then I'll give you a map to help you find your way around. Understood?” Old Lady Veronica snapped, and Valerie nodded her head.
Everything at the Davison's villa seems to have a perfect way of doing it. They walked past so many servants, and that left Valerie wondering if there were up to a hundred servants working in the villa.
Valerie and the Lady Veronica got to the servant's quarter as it was boldly written at the top of the doors. “This will be your room for now. Just in case you need anything, you can come over to this room” Lady Veronica said, and Valerie nodded her head.
Veronica handed the uniforms to her. It was sky blue in color. “I think you should try it on so that I will be sure that it fit you perfectly”
Valerie took the dress, and walked into the restroom. She changed into the uniform, and looked so good in it.
Walking out of the restroom, Lady Veronica smiled approvingly at her, and she required no one to tell her that she looked beautiful in the uniform she was putting on.
“Good. The other uniform is right there. You can go home with it if you wish to. Secondly, this is a map that will help you with finding your way around the mansion” Lady Veronica handed the map to her.
“Thank you, ma'am”
“The room on the third floor is Miss Audrey's. She needs to dress for her home tutoring, and her father won't be happy if she's late. Teacher Vicky will be here in an hour” Lady Veronica replied, and Valerie nodded her head before walking away.
She kept staring at the map, and thanks to that, she was able to find Audrey's room. Standing in front of the room, her heart was beating faster. “I hope we get along”.
Her palms were all sweaty. Was she nervous? Was it because of the little girl? How absurd! She pressed the doorbell. “Come in!” She heard a tiny voice say.
Valerie put on a welcoming smile as she walked into the room. Stepping into the massive room, her jaw dropped in awe as she thought. “Is this the little girl's room? Gosh! This is twice the size of our entire apartment.”
Valerie scanned around the room with her eyes, and she was surprised because she didn't see the little girl who had told her to come in.
“Miss Audrey! Miss Audrey!! Are you there? Miss…” She was still about to call her again when she heard noises coming from under the bed.
A gasp escaped her lips, and she bent over to see Audrey drawing with her pencils and crayons under the bed. “W… what are you doing there?”
Audrey struggled out of the bed under with a mischievous smile, waving at her, “Hello, old-fashioned lady”.
Valerie was gobsmacked. Did she just call her old-fashioned lady? Was it because of her attire the last time? That little punk!
“Little one. What were you doing there? I was startled” Valerie managed to speak up.
“You don't know yet, right? I love drawing under the bed. You look better with the uniform, old-fashioned lady” Audrey chuckled.
Valerie couldn't help but giggle. The little girl was so funny, and had already given her a nickname. “Uhm… Audrey, I heard your teacher will be here soon, and…”
Audrey shook her head and tutted loudly. Valerie raised her brows, and turned swiftly to her. “First, I don't know your name. Secondly, I have to give you my rules, Miss old-fashioned”
“I'm Valerie. And yes, you can tell me the rules like you said” Valerie wore a cute smile. Audrey nodded her head, and walked to her drawer. Opening the drawer, she brought out a book.
“You're not allowed to open this book, nanny” She stole a glance at Valerie who nodded her head sharply.
Valerie kept staring at her, wondering what she was doing. “She even has a book that I shouldn't touch. That's so funny.”
“Here it is.” Audrey breathed heavily in relief before handing a long piece of paper to Valerie. With hesitation, Valerie took the paper from her.
“That's my dos and don'ts” Audrey winked at her, and Valerie gulped to her.
“First, no meddling with my stuff. Secondly, you can't crush on my Dad and…” Valerie choked as she read the second line.
“What?”
