Chapter 61: Chapter 61
“Where is my daughter?”
Valerie was already choking due to how tight President Ethan was holding her collar. Fear was an understatement of what she was feeling, even if she wasn't looking him in the eyes. He was way taller and broader than her, so she could only feel his warm breath on her forehead.
Tears rolled down her cheeks. She didn't need anyone to tell her that President Ethan was as furious as hell. Therefore, she knew it would be the worst option to choose not to talk. “I left her over there to get some ice cream for her, and before I could get back, she was already gone.”
“You b·itch!” President Ethan cursed under his breath as he forcefully let go of her collar, making Valerie stagger backwards. Luckily, the driver was able to catch her before she could hit her butt on the ground.
Glaring hard at her, President Ethan dialed the number and in a few minutes, the police arrived. The park was still filled with people, and it was dark already.
“Search for my daughter. You must find her.” President Ethan spoke with a bold voice.
The inspector nodded. “You have nothing to worry about, President Ethan. I assure you we'll do our best to find your daughter.”
Valerie was at the other end, panicking and shivering. Her eyes were all swollen, and she did everything possible to make sure she didn't go close to President Ethan.
“Where exactly did you leave Miss Davison?” One of the policemen started interrogating Valerie.
She glanced at Ethan, and found him glaring. She choked, and coughed slightly. “Over there. I… I left her there and stepped out for a minute to get…”
Valerie was still speaking when Ethan approached them, and cut her off abruptly. “What type of nanny leaves the little girl they are supposed to take care of, and steps out for a minute?”
With that, Valerie sniffed, and tears circulated in her eyes again. She turned to the officer with tears in her eyes. “She… she wanted ice cream, officer. I only wanted to get her what she wanted.”
“Shut your trap! Who consented to take my daughter out of the house? Listen and listen perfect, if anything happens to my daughter…. I swear to God, I'll have you jailed for life.” President Ethan half yelled at her, and she bowed her head in tears.
Seeing the scene and how hot the situation was getting, the policeman stepped in front and replied. “It hasn't gotten to that, President Davison. Your daughter must surely be found.”
“You better pray hard. If you fail to find my daughter, just bundle up this lady and take her straight to the police station” Ethan snapped.
Ever since Valerie started working for the Davison's, this was surely the first time she had seen the President so furious. Fear was the only feeling she knew at the moment. All she wanted was to be able to raise money for her education, and she ended up getting entangled with the powerful family, and now she's the reason their daughter is missing.
…
Audrey wandered about in the crowd as she sobbed quietly. The place was filled with people, and it was already dark. It was difficult for her to see the faces of people.
“Miss old-fashioned! Miss old-fashioned!!” She called with her tiny voice. Her voice could be barely heard.
Furthermore, she burst into tears, staring around. She couldn't even tell where she came or how to leave that place. The whole place looked so alike.
She squatted at the other end, sobbing helplessly. A lady walked to her, and tapped her. Reluctantly, she raised her head, and wiped her eyes.
“Kid, why are you here? People are leaving the park because the carnival is over and you're here. Are you crying?” She raised her brows.
Audrey was about to tell her that she lost her way, but then she thought of the other lady who tried to take her away. She quickly slapped the lady's hand off. “You must be here with that deceptive lady. No matter what you tell me, there's no way I'll believe you. Miss old-fashioned will never leave me behind.”
The confused lady gulped hard. “What lady are you talking about? I'm only concerned about that…”
“No! Stay away from me.” Audrey quickly ran off, and the lady shrugged.
“What a weird child!” She shook her head and walked away.
The more Audrey wandered around, the darker it was getting. Her eyes were already swollen due to the crying, and her legs were getting numb. She was never used to taking a walk for such a long time.
“Ouch!” She groaned in pain, and sat on the bare ground.
Then, someone suddenly flashed a torchlight on her. “Hey.”
Meanwhile, the police returned to the car where Ethan, Valerie, and Mr. Brown were. President Ethan quickly sprang up and rushed to the inspector. “Inspector, have you found my daughter?”
“We… we're doing everything we can, but we haven't.” The inspector lowered his voice to say.
“Damn.” President Ethan kicked his foot against the car tire in fury.
“We're doing our best to…”
Ethan snapped. “Your best is not enough because if it's perfect, you should have found my daughter.”
He turned swiftly to Valerie, and she fearfully bowed her head instantly. “Oh, you better pray hard, Miss Watson. If not, I promise you that you're going to regret ever stepping foot in the Davison's Residence.”
His words felt like a slap on Valerie's cheek. She managed to get a hold of herself.
“I can… I can go and help the police with the search, sir” It came out as a muffle, but was audible enough for President Ethan to hear her.
Ethan scoffed. “You want to escape, don't you? Hell no. I won't let you off and…”
“Hello, everyone. What is going on here?” A voice was heard. Even without seeing who it was, Valerie recognized the voice.
“Nicole.” Valerie leaped for joy on seeing him. Looking down, they saw the little figure with her. It was Audrey.
