Chapter 52: Chapter 52

“What?” Valerie almost dropped her cell phone.

She was shocked, and never expected that her little Audrey would be wounded. “Where is she now, Sir? Is she okay?”

Reluctantly, Ethan replied. “She's not doing okay. What… What do you expect when she falls from the stairs? Are you still going for your date or coming over here?”

“I'll be there in no time, Sir. Please just hold on a second” Valerie hung the phone up, and turned to the chauffeur.

“Is anything the matter, ma'am?” The confused chauffeur asked.

Valerie shook her head with tears circulated in her eyes. “Yes. It's my little girl. She just got into an accident. Please, could you turn the car around? I need to go to her immediately.”

Without hesitation, the chauffeur turned back and headed to Davison's villa.  Rushing into the mansion, Valerie was holding her heels. Plenty of thoughts were running through her mind. Was Audrey okay? What exactly happened to Audrey? Is she in good shape?

Valerie stormed into the sitting room, and sighted Ethan seated on the couch, and sipping vodka. Confused, Valerie stared at him with furrowed eyebrows. He didn't look like someone whose daughter was dying.

“Sir, where's she? Where's Audrey?” Valerie inquired anxiously.

Ethan blinked his eyes rapidly. “Audrey? Why do you ask?”

“Didn't you say she got into an accident? I left everything I was doing just to see her” Valerie snapped.

“Oh… She's… She's in her room, I suppose” Ethan stammered. Before he could complete the statement, Valerie already dropped her purse, and ran upstairs to see Audrey.

However, Ethan followed her reluctantly. He wanted to stop her, but Valerie was totally unstoppable. All she cared about was to know how Audrey was doing. Flinging the door open wide, Valerie rushed into the room. She saw Audrey sleeping peacefully on the bed.

Without hesitation, she sat on the bed edges. Yanking off the duvet, she searched anxiously to see where she was wounded, like the President had told her over the phone. “Where's the wound? Where is she wounded?”

The President walked into the room without sparing a glance at Valerie. Furthermore, Valerie puckered her brows at him, and asked. “President, How is Audrey's wound? I thought you said she got into a severe accident?”

Ethan faked a cough, and mumbled. “She… She did”.

“She did? Then where's the wound? Didn't you say that she fell from the stairs?” Valerie asked curiously.

Audrey yawned tiredly, and opened her eyes gradually. On seeing Valerie, she flung her eyes open widely. “Miss old-fashioned, what are you doing here?”

“She came to see you baby because of the pain you were feeling” Ethan ignored Valerie, and rushed to hold Audrey's hand.

Confused, Audrey stared at her father. “The pain I'm feeling? What pain are you talking about? You asked me to take a nap, didn't you?”

Valerie smiled calmly. “Audrey, daddy is talking about the accident you had earlier? Didn't you fall from the stairs?”

“Stairs? Who fell from the stairs? And when?” Audrey sat up from the bed, glancing at her Dad and her nanny.

Not knowing what to say to cover up for his lie, President Ethan turned his gaze away in shame. Valerie and Audrey were all staring at him, waiting for his explanation because they were all lost. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because I want to know how I fell from the stairs. Miss old-fashioned, shouldn't you be on your date with Uncle Hat?” Audrey gasped.

Valerie bowed her head, and muttered. “Your daddy told me you got into an accident. I had no choice than to cancel.”

“Daddy, what's Miss old-fashioned talking about?”

Ethan cleared his throat and said. “I… I thought you weren't feeling well, or maybe you wanted to see her. Don't you feel happy seeing your Miss old-fashioned? Isn't it what you've always wanted?”

“Yeah right! But Miss old-fashioned has a significant date today, and she's off work. What makes you think I feel happy that you made her scared for nothing, Dad?” Audrey got down from the bed, and held Valerie's hand.

Valerie watched her get off the bed without struggle, and snorted. “Does this mean that Audrey never got into an accident? Like she never fell from the stairs?”

“Never, Miss old-fashioned. Daddy told me to take a nap.” Audrey sharply replied.

Valerie clenched her fist in fury. If President Ethan wasn't her boss, she would have given him a dirty slap to reset his head. What did he take her for? A slave he'll beckon anytime he wants?

“Dang! Who does that? Who calls people out of their dates with such a flimsy reason? What an arrogant @sshole!”

Ethan snapped. “Since you cancelled your date, why don't you just hang out with Audrey. You've always wanted that, right, Audrey?” He smiled warmly at her.

Audrey glared at him, and scoffed. “Hell no! She should be off work today. You're so inconsiderate, daddy. I hate that.”

On saying that, Audrey and Valerie stormed out of the room, leaving only Ethan who stood at the other end, staring at the window. “Why are they so furious? I was just doing them a favor since they are so clingy when it comes to each other? This is a good way of bringing them together.”

Furthermore, Ethan turned to leave the room when he heard a buzz on the table beside Audrey's bed. His attention was drawn, and he walked close to the table.

It was Valerie's cell phone. She forgot to pick it up from the table. Staring around carefully to make sure no one would come in or no one was watching, he quickly picked the phone up, and read the message in front of the screen.

“Ma Sheri, since you couldn't make it today. Let's meet tomorrow at the Yummy ice cream parlor. I'll call to tell you the time, take care Val”.

Ethan raged in fury, and cursed loudly. “F****** bastard! Such a flirt!”

“Daddy, are you okay?”

Without a second thought, he shoved the cell phone into his pocket and walked out of the room. “Yes, baby”
