Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Rica's shrieking voice smacked Patricia out of her thoughts. She turned to her with her eyebrows arched. “What's with the screaming, Rica? How can you be so happy in this predicament of mine?”
Taking a deep breath, Rica replied. “Oh my goodness! Your step-sister has really made it in life. I just searched for her fiancé on the internet and gosh!, You don't want to know what I found out”.
Mentioning Valerie made Patricia almost throw up. The thought of her alone makes her want to puke. What more seeing her? She'd lose her breath for sure.
“This is about Valerie?” Patricia inquired.
“I'm just wondering how she got to meet such a hot catch. He's President Ethan of Davison's empire, and according to what I found out, his relationship status isn't revealed. I think he's an introvert.” Rica explained.
Patricia mumbled. “Is he that popular?”
“God! Girl, I'm literally dying to get a picture with him. He has been my idol for a long time. Who would have thought that your sister was his hidden girlfriend? Valerie has always been lucky with getting the best of everything. Maybe it's really in her destiny to win in everything…” Rica kept on talking, but paused on noticing the silence coming from Patricia.
Reluctantly, she turned to Patricia and saw her glaring at her. If eyes were guns, she would have shot her right there.
Gulping hard, Rica smiled nervously. “Er mm… What I was saying is… I mean, she doesn't deserve to get everything she is getting right now. You're the perfect person to be together with, the CEO of Davison's empire”.
“Shut it! Occasionally, I wonder on whose sure you're on. I'm your best friend, and you know how much I detest my half-sister, but here you are rubbing her successes right in my face.”
Rica snapped. “Success, you say? Of course, she must have thrown herself on him as usual. You're the only one who should get all that she's getting now.”
“President Ethan of Davison's empire? How the hell did Valerie get such a boyfriend? This is too good to be true. I have to get to the root of this.”
…
The shadow walked closer to Valerie, and her heart raced faster.
“Who are you?”
Valerie's voice was shaky and filled with panic. She walked backwards, and turned the table lamp on.
“You look so scared? Are you that terrified?” Rebecca inquired.
Hearing that, Valerie cleared her throat noisily. Rebecca was the least person that she expected to see in Audrey's room. They don't get along, so what I'm heaven's name would Rebecca be doing in Audrey's room? Numerous questions kept running through her mind.
Valerie asked curiously. “Why are you here?”
Rebecca gritted her teeth. Resentment grew in her eyes, but she had to get a hold of herself. “Are you blind? Or do you need someone to show you your place, Valerie?”
“I'm her nanny. This is my workplace, I know I shouldn't be talking to you, but I just need to know why you're here?” Valerie defended. She couldn't tell what gave her the courage to say those words. Probably because when it comes to Audrey, she'll do anything to protect her.
Rebecca smiled dryly, then said. “You do know that I'll be her mommy in no time. Isn't it that mothers always kiss their children good night? Since I'm going to become her new mommy, isn't it also right that I start doing that?”
Still unsatisfied with her response, Valerie nodded her head. “That's right!”
“Who do you think you are to tell me what to do and what not? You're just a nanny. Do you need me to remind you of that every day before you get it into your thick skull?” Rebecca fumed.
With that, she turned around and stormed out of the room. Valerie wondered.
“Why would Rebecca want to kiss Audrey good night? I have a bad feeling about this. I can't let her harm the little girl.”
However, Rebecca banged the door noisily as she walked into the guest room. She dropped the bottle she was holding on the bed, fuming furiously.
She had always hated Valerie, but her hatred for her had just increased. Likewise, she had wanted to teach Audrey a lesson. The bottle she dropped on the bed, she planned to apply on Audrey's face. It was going to give her some deadly reactions and rashes all over her face the next morning.
“Valerie, you're really getting on my nerves”
At Davison's villa, the next morning, Valerie was seated on the bed right beside Clara, who was shivering under the blanket. “I got you a glass of water, and some medicine. You need to take them and get better.”
Clara struggled up, and with Valerie's aid she was able to sit up, still shivering. “Thank you so much, Valerie.” She took the glass of water, throwing the tablet into her mouth, she gulped down an enormous amount of water.
“Oh, that's not a bother. You're my friend, and it's only right for me to help you out since you're sick. I don't think you should do the house chores today. You have to recuperate before starting work again.” Valerie suggested.
Without hesitation, Clara shook her head in disagreement. “I don't… I don't want to lose my job, Valerie. I have to clean the President's bedroom today. If I don't, I might lose my job.”
Helping her lie down again, Valerie assured her. “I don't have a lot to do today. Besides, my little Audrey will be going to school. I can help you clean the President's bedroom.”
“Oh, Valerie. Thank you so much. You don't know how much this means to me” Clara held her hand.
Two hours later, Valerie walked to the President's bedroom with some cleaning equipment. Thankfully, the President had already left the house.
“Why is it so essential to clean this room? Not like it's even dirty” Valerie thought.
She walked closer to the bed, and took out the old bedspread. Suddenly, a receipt fell out of the bedspread.
Reluctantly, Valerie picked the receipt up, and read it out aloud. “Payment for a black diamond stoned dress?” She gasped.
