Chapter 24: Chapter 24

“Sir?”

Valerie's jaw dropped in shock. Maybe she has a poor hearing problem, if not, why would the President care if she's feeling better or not.

The President shook his head, and walked towards her. Her heart was racing fast as his pace increased. This should be a dream. Rebecca, on the other hand, kept glaring at her. If the eyes had bullets, she would have shot her dead that instant.

“Ethan, why do you care? I mean, she's getting the appropriate medication. Let's just go upstairs, I'm sure you're tired, and needs to rest” Rebecca snapped, and Ethan halted.

“Yeah right. This is partly your fault. And she's my worker, who is taking care of my daughter. You don't expect me to leave my child in the care of a wounded woman, do you?” The President countered expressionlessly.

The President got close to her, and took her hand. He glanced at her scald arm, and nodded calmly. Valerie felt her heart racing. Was she scared? What exactly was making her heart race? Was it because the President was standing so close to her, and holding her hand? All sorts of questions kept running through her mind.

Without a second thought, Valerie smiled nervously, and said. “I'm… I'm fine, sir. You don't have to worry, I'll do my best to take care of your daughter”.

“Good! I think you still need to apply more ointment on the burn” Ethan said before turning backwards. He walked upstairs, and Rebecca followed him.

Valerie exhaled deeply, and turned to Audrey, who was smiling at her. “Why are you smiling, baby?”

“Miss old-fashioned, don't you know that this is good news for me?” Audrey pouted her mouth.

“Good news?” Valerie mumbled with her eyebrows arched. She just couldn't wrap her head around what the little girl meant. “What's good news? The only person your daddy cares about is you, he just wants his daughter's nanny to be okay so that his daughter won't be stressed”.

Audrey laughed, and tut. “Miss old-fashioned, that's not what I'm talking about. I think you're getting closer to my daddy. That's good news. In no time, you'll be able to convince him to stop Miss Vicky from coming to tutor me”.

Upon hearing that, Valerie burst into laughter. The adorable girl in front of her is really something else. “So, this about your home tutor? What exactly does she do to you that made you abhor her so much?”

“That lady— she's something else. Do you know that she's always picking her nose when teaching? Once ago, she punished me hard because I told her she was sleeping while teaching me. Gross! I don't understand why daddy thinks she's the best tutor for me” Audrey kept complaining.

Valerie patted her hair, and responded. “I pray I get in your dad's good side. That way, I'll be able to convince him to get you another tutor, okay?”

“Thank you, Miss old-fashioned. I really wish you would be my nanny and my tutor” Audrey giggled.

“Naughty girl! Do you want some ice cream later? We could go to an ice cream parlor after we're done with your assignments” Valerie winked at her, and Audrey shrieked in excitement.

“Really?”

Valerie nodded her head in agreement. “Yeah”. Audrey hugged her tightly with smiles all over her face.

“Thank you, Miss old-fashioned” She rejoiced.

From the balcony, The President watched his daughter jumping up and down in excitement. Is that how much she loves her new nanny? Why are they so attached, when the other nannies before her had always complained that his daughter was mischievous and rude? “I guess everyone has a favorite person”.

“President Ethan, I think your Audrey has found a mother figure in the new nanny” Dan said, and that snapped Ethan out of his thoughts.

He smiled softly, and nodded his head. This was the first time in many years that he had seen his daughter looking this happy. “Yeah. It's very surprising that she actually has someone who she likes this much. I've always been disturbed because she won't stop asking me to buy her a mother. I think Miss Watson is the mother she's been wanting to buy”.

“Ethan? What are you there for? Come on, don't you want to attend the party with me anymore?” That was Rebecca's voice coming from the room.

On hearing that, President Ethan's face countenance changed. In as much as he cares about Rebecca, he still hates her partying attitude. “I can't come with you”. He walked into the room, and found her applying makeup on her face.

“What?” She freaked out.

“I have work to do, Rebecca. Besides, I'm not the party type of person, you know that” Ethan sat on the couch, and opened the laptop.

Rebecca glared at him, and snorted. “I want you to be honest, Ethan. What's going on with you and that nanny?”

Ethan choked, and turned to look at her with his eyes narrowed. “What?”

“You care so much about her. That's not you, Ethan. You might not be a bad person, but you're not the caring kind of person, especially for someone as lowly as a mere nanny” Rebecca commented, and Ethan got up immediately. He walked to the window, backing Rebecca.

“She's not just a mere nanny, Rebecca. Why shouldn't I care?” Ethan replied, and Rebecca widened her eyes in shock.

“What?”

Ethan cleared his throat noisily, and swallowed hard. He didn't even know when he said those words. What was he thinking? “She's… she's like a mother to my daughter. She's the mother Audrey have been looking for”.

Tears circulated in Rebecca's eyes, and she blinked them back. That will ruin in her makeup. “What about my, Ethan? Who the f*** am I to you?”

“There is no point comparing you to her. You're two different people. Besides, you and Audrey don't really get along, right?” Ethan regretted his words immediately he said them.

Grabbing her purse, Rebecca stormed out of the room angrily. “F*** you, Ethan!”.

Ethan shut his eyes, and bit his lips. “Why am I suddenly siding with the nanny?”
