Chapter 19: Chapter 19

“Oh my God! Why are you crying, baby?”

Surprised, Valerie sat beside the little girl, who was crying. She was confused as hell, why was Audrey crying? She didn't say anything to make her sad, or did she?

Valerie patted her back, and wiped her tears with her hands. “Audrey, what's the problem? Why are you crying?”

Audrey sniffed hard, and dropped the chips on the bed. “Miss old-fashioned?”

“Yes, dear?” Valerie raised a brow.

“Is it possible for anyone not to have a mommy?” Audrey asked with tears circulated in her eyes, and Valerie swallowed hard.

“Huh? Of course not. Everyone has a mother, there's no one who has no mother” Valerie commented.

Audrey smiled dryly, and sniffed a little before saying, “Does that mean I'm the only one who doesn't have a mother in this world? I think I'm the only one who has a father with no mother”.

“What? Listen, Audrey, there's no way you won't have a mother. I'm sure daddy has his reasons for telling you whatever he must have told you” Valerie kissed her fist.

“Valerie?” Little Audrey called, to Valerie's greatest surprise. She has never called her by her name. It stunned her to know she actually called her that.

“Yes?”

“Please promise me something. I'll be the happiest person in the world if you'll be able to keep your promise to me” Audrey cried.

“What do you want, Audrey? You can tell me anything” Valerie snapped.

Audrey wiped her eyes before speaking, “When next we go to the mall, please help me buy a mommy for myself. I want a mother. You have to promise me that you'll buy me a mother”. Audrey broke into tears again, and Valerie couldn't hold her tears back as well. She was so touched by the little girl's words. Likewise, she immediately regretted why she had asked her that question. Then, she remembered the picture, and took it out of her apron.

“I found this in the room. I thought maybe it will be essential to you”.

“F***!” Audrey cursed on seeing the picture. Valerie widened her eyes in shock, she has never heard her using swear words.

“What's the matter, Audrey? Who is she?” Valerie gulped nervously.

Audrey exhaled deeply, and shook her head. “That's Rebecca. I hate her so much, and I would rather not hear anything about her. Gosh! I hate her even more, looking at her picture”.

“You hate her? What did she do to you? Is she so bad that you hate her this much?” Valerie asked.

“She's the worst. I can't believe she wants to be my mommy. I can't let someone like her be my mommy. She's so cruel and ugly that's why she had marker pen written all over her face” Audrey giggled.

“You made her so ugly” Valerie shared a laugh with her. “Of course, Miss old-fashioned”.

“By the way, don't forget to give daddy the salted potato chips. He likes that so much, and you made it really crispy. He'll definitely be on good terms with you, and then you can convince him about Miss Vicky, okay?” Audrey pouted her mouth, and Valerie nodded her head, forcing a smile.

“Oh no! How do I make Audrey understand that her father will never be on good terms with me and talk more of listening to me?”.

An hour later, Valerie walked into the kitchen to take her portion of the food that was dished out for the servants. Of course, she met only Anastasia in the kitchen. Glaring hard at her, Anastasia hissed loudly. Without paying attention to Anastasia, she walked to the kitchen unit. She saw the covered food, and took off the cover.

“What?”

The shock what she saw gave her made her scream out loud. Anastasia didn't even spare a glance at her as she ate her apple.

“Where's my food, Anastasia?” Valerie walked to her with the plate containing the very little food that looked more like dog food.

Anastasia scoffed, and rolled her eyes. “I thought you were only dumb, I didn't realize you are blind as well”.

Valerie clenched her fist and swallowed hard, trying everything possible not to give Anastasia a resounding slap because she was tempted to. “Is this supposed to be my food? Or is it dog food?”

“You swine! You must be silly to speak to me in such a manner. You should just microwave that, and make due with whatever I give you to eat. Can you even afford this that you just called dog food? Are you any better than a dog?” Anastasia flared up, and Valerie snorted.

“Among the both of us, who do you think looks more like a dog that can't help but bark?” Valerie laughed sarcastically.

“You…” Anastasia raised her hand to slap Valerie, and she grabbed her hand in the air.

“Don't you dare raise your filthy fingers to my face. I will not hesitate to scratch that ugly face of yours” Valerie warned her before storming out of the kitchen.

Anastasia fumed in anger, and kicked the stool angrily. She had always hated Valerie, ever since she stepped into Davison's villa. “Shameless slut” She cursed under her breath.

“Go ahead, Miss old-fashioned. Daddy is in the room, and he's just going through some files. Eating the salted potato chips, and checking the files, will make him so happy”.

Audrey peeped from her door, and pushed Valerie out gently. Valerie reluctantly walked towards the President's room. She wished there was a way for her to convince little Audrey that she won't be able to help.

“Go, Miss old-fashioned. Knock on the door, and don't forget you shouldn't knock more than twice” Audrey smiled at her.

Valerie got to the door. Her palms were already sweaty, and her heart was beating even faster.

“I hope I don't die before getting into this room”.

She managed to knock twice, and she heard a deep, manly voice, “Come in”

Carrying a tray of the salted potato chips, she walked into the room. The President, who was busy with the laptop on the table, raised his brows in shock.

“Why are you here?”
