Chapter 71: Chapter 71
“Are you sure that is what you are going to do?” Sana asked again. She did not want her to take the decision based on her emotional state. Olivia nodded.
“Yes, I have to get away from him and that house for a while. It is not like he is at home either. I don’t have to perform any duty which is required by the contract.” She said in a determined voice.
“Okay, love. You know what is best to do at this point. Let me make our coffee.” Sana stood up and left the room. Olivia sighed.
Living in that hell-like house and dealing with Thomas for the last month had taken a toll on her physical and mental well-being. Besides, she was fed up with doing all that for no reason. What was she taking those useless classes for? Why was she living there when there was no one she was supposed to act like a couple with? Thomas was not there to answer all those questions. She did not think he would appear before her anytime soon. She was not bound in any way. The contract terms would have been exercisable only if both parties did their due share of duties. If he was not doing anything he was supposed to do, why was she tiring herself?
She did not know when he would be back or if he would talk to her at all, but she had decided that she would be out of that house for now.
Her mom needed her. She needed her mom.
She left Sana’s place after having breakfast and went to the Walker palace. She knew the old man would not let her leave peacefully. She was ready to face him though. She was fed up with trying to pretend something she was not just because of the contract. She was not like someone who did something against her wishes and did not take a stand for herself. Being in that house took a lot of her courage.
“Where is Mr. Walker?” She asked the maid as soon as she got inside the house.
“He is in the office.” She replied continuing her chores. Olivia sighed. She knew he would be in the office, but she was still hoping he was there so she could get done with everything. She wanted to disappear without a glance and never come back, but she knew that it was not possible. She had to talk to James Walker before leaving. Hell would be let loose if she left without talking to him.
She waited for a long time, from morning till night, but he still had not returned. She was so tired. She had been trying her best to stay awake. She had already packed her stuff. She was just waiting for the grandpa to return.
She fell asleep for a little while when she felt a commotion inside the room. She tried to open her eyes to take a peek. It was so hard to leave her sleepy bliss. What she saw made her senses awaken quickly.
Thomas stared back at her in the dim light. She could not move. She did not know how to react.
She had missed him so much. She had thought a lot about how the time he would finally appear in front of her. No! That did not include the other time when she saw him at the club. She was looking forward to the time he would be back willingly. But then, she was reminded of the previous night in the club when he reacted in such a heartless way toward her.
She realized that the excitement and nervousness she thought she would have, were not there anymore.
She was so hurt by what he did that night. She could not continue with the plan Sana had made for her. She did not only ruin her night but Sana’s as well. She could not help crying.
She knew he was hurt. She knew their situation was complicated. She knew that they were not real husband and wife. But he had been so distant toward her lately while he was a gentleman before. Now when she thought about it, he was never really a gentleman in the actual sense. She should not forget that he was the one because of whom she and her mom were about to be on the streets. He was the one who made her lose her job. He was the same person who had manipulated her just so she would accept the ridiculous idea. If it was not for the effort he made for her mom’s surgery, he would not have even an ounce of respect in her heart, especially after reacting in such a heartless way toward her.
So no! She was neither excited nor nervous that he was back.
She remained silent as they both stared at one another. He did not speak a word for a few moments. Gosh, he was handsome! She thought and chided herself at the same time.
She was half sitting and half lying on the bed with the help of the headboard. She saw him turn the light on. It took her a few moments to adjust her eyes to the sudden bright light. They had just been observing one another through the dim golden light of the table lamp.
“How have you been?” He asked finally. It was ridiculous to think that she had even missed his voice after everything that had happened between them.
She shrugged flipping her hair and adjusting them on her left shoulder, “Fine,” She answered nonchalantly. Something changed in his eyes but he masked it again. Here comes the guy who is so skillful in hiding his emotions! She thought.
“Have you been wearing this to bed?” He asked in a light tone pointing at her attire. She was wearing light blue lingerie. She had not even noticed what she was wearing until he pointed it out.
She had been wearing lingerie to bed for some time now knowing Thomas would not return. After she saw that the grandpa had not returned, she decided to sleep. She had been so habitual of wearing lingerie that now, she could not even sleep without them. Besides, she felt bad that all those expensive and beautiful ones were lying in her wardrobe uselessly.
But now, she was regretting her choice. Thomas was hiding his smirk as he stared at her outfit. She glared at him as she hid with the cover—her cheeks flushed with unwanted embarrassment. It was not like she was wearing a bikini to bed. Why was he acting that way?
His expression suddenly got serious as he came to stand beside the bed. She avoided him completely now. She was not looking at him at all as he took a seat beside her on the bed. He was again silent for a while. Neither of them could understand what to say. There was so much to say to others, yet there was nothing to talk about. At least, that was how she was feeling at that moment.
She did not know why he had come back or if he would stay at all. Either way, she was not as eager for him to be back as she was before.
“What is that?” He asked with a questioning look as he pointed at the bag. She followed his eyes and saw the bag lying on the bed that she had packed earlier.
“It’s mine.” She answered confusing him.
“Why is it lying there?” He asked again. He was not sure why the bag was there although something told him what she was intending to do.
“I am going to leave in the morning.” She replied simply. There was nothing she could lose, so nothing could scare her anymore—including speaking her mind.
Thomas was shocked for a while as he kept staring at her trying to decipher what she was thinking. He had never thought she would think of leaving him.
Although he understood that he was the reason she must have taken the decision, there was no exclusion of the possibility that she must have made the decision based on the same reason he had left her for a month.
He was very well aware that she did not reciprocate his feelings. It was true that what she said had hurt him to no extent. But more than catering to his ego, he had gone away to reflect. He wanted to know if there was something in his action that had made her uncomfortable. Besides, deep down, he wanted her to reach out to him. He waited and waited to know if there was a little, a tiny little part of her that disagreed with her. He looked forward to the day she would come before him and confess what she had felt toward him. He gave her space and time so she would decide for herself without being influenced by his actions.
That was a bad idea. Not only did she not reach out to him, but she also decided to leave him.
Words could not define how much he had missed her. He fought himself countless times when he grabbed his phone and saw her calls in the initial days. He wanted her to call him. He wanted to talk and hear her voice, but he did not attend those calls.
It was always he who made the first move. He wanted her to be the one to do that now. It was better if he let her do that.
“Why are you leaving?” He asked after contemplating with himself what to say that would stop her.
She stared at him blankly. She could not understand him at all. She could not understand how he could ask that question after knowing very well what he had been doing to her.
Or maybe! He was not aware at all. How could someone not be aware of their actions after displaying such cold behavior toward others?
“I hope you ask that question yourself once I leave. That doesn’t matter anymore. I have made my decision.” She put up a strong front when she pushed herself to look him straight in the eyes.
‘Don’t budge!’ Her inner voice warned her as she saw him take a deep sigh.
‘Why now? Why had he come now after hurting her so much? Why was he there after acting like a stranger toward her just the other night? Why had he appeared just when she had made her decision?’ She asked all those questions herself as she did not have the courage or the right to ask him.
She did not have any right to confront him. Just like that, he had no right to stop her.
‘As if he would want to stop you…’ She told herself the bitter reality. It hurt. It hurt so freaking much.
