Chapter 36: Chapter 36
She could not believe he just saw her little dance. She had no idea when he had entered the kitchen. She did not hear any sound. She was too busy with her dance that she did not even notice him.
She was feeling so bored. After she got his text that he would be coming for lunch, she put her phone on the counter thinking what to do since he would not be coming anytime soon, she thought.
It was just a little past one in the afternoon. She guessed it would take time for him to arrive.
She put on some music and started dancing in the kitchen. Since there was no one to witness her weirdness, she started doing little moves far different from what she did as a stripper. But she knew dancing, so she began to dance her heart out.
The kitchen shelves were made of glass so she saw her reflection while dancing. That was why her back was towards the counter and the reason why she did not notice him. He was so discreet. He was standing at a corner making her unable to spot his reflection on the kitchen shelves. Otherwise, she would have surely known he was there.
But now, she was embarrassed to hell. God knows, for how long he was standing there and how much of her silly moves he must have witnessed.
She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear that had left its place from her ponytail. Guess her dance was pretty intense.
That jerk was smiling and making fun of her.
“Nice dance.” He commented making her give him a slight glare. There she was embarrassed to no end and he was making her even more embarrassed.
“Thank you.” She grinned mockingly—his smile widened at her reaction, but he did not say anything else. He knew she would be annoyed. He was enjoying all that a little too much.
“I will go and get fresh.” He informed going to his room with the same grin on his face. She could just glare at his back.
She should not have asked him about the lunch. Now, he witnessed an embarrassing moment of hers. Something told her that he would not let go of this opportunity to make fun of her.
She shook her head and washed her hands before pouring the pasta on two plates. She also took out coke from the refrigerator and poured the drink into two cups. The salad she had made was also lying on the counter. She arranged everything just in time for him to enter.
“Wow!” He commented looking at the table. It had been long since the table there saw a proper lunch or dinner placed on it. He was rarely there, and when he was, he ordered. Right then, everything seemed so proper and nice. He could not help but be amazed and thankful.
She heard him but ignored. She was so suspicious about everything he did that she did not know if he was genuinely amazed or was taunting her again.
He took a seat just as she sat down. They both started their lunch. The first bite left a heavenly taste in his mouth. He could not help but appreciate her cooking skills.
“It’s delicious.” He said after the first bite. He had never tasted Alfredo Pasta like that.
She just gave him a small smile and got busy with her food. He was a bit surprised at the way she was receiving her compliments. Not even a thank you! Was she still embarrassed about her dance? But there was no need to. He liked what he saw. She surely was a wonderful dancer.
They had the rest of their lunch in silence. He was thinking what to say to her so she would forget about the moment.
“Thanks for the lunch.” He said as he took a sip from his drink. He was so full. He had never had lunch with such appetite. Lunch was not his cup of tea. He ordered a light one whenever he felt like eating. But at that moment he came to know why people had three meals in a day.
“It’s the least I can do.” She replied with a sigh. She did not look happy when she said that.
“Why do you say that?” He asked with a questioning look in his eyes. She had said something finally. He was going to have the small talk with her which he had originally come for.
“Nothing.” She replied as she was about to get up. She was avoiding eye-contact. Something was up with her.
He grabbed her arm before she could get away. She turned around and frowned at him. he remembered her warning about not touching her again, so he quickly released her hand.
“Sit.” “Please.” He said in his usual authoritative tone but remembered he was talking to her. She was not like someone who would take the tone. She kept frowning but sat down at last.
“What’s wrong?” He asked folding his sleeves till his elbow and giving her his full attention.
Was he showing off his forearms? She thought. If he was trying to distract her, he was successful.
“I feel like I am being useless. I have nothing to do. I never thought I would be like those girls who wait for their husbands to return from work so they could cater to their needs. It was never my dream in life, but I am living the same life right now.” She said what had been bothering her for the past days. Having no jobs and being away from her mom was taking a toll on her. As sufferable as her life was, she was used to that life. She could not accept the new life however she tried to.
But she could not even complain. It was the life she chose due to compulsion. Thomas was surely, partly to blame for making her lose everything. But she could not even blame him. She was the one who agreed to his offer at the end.
And the grandpa? He had even warned her against working. She could not tell Thomas that he was there. She was stuck in a ridiculous situation.
Thomas was staring at her as she said it. She indeed looked irritated at the situation. There was nothing he could do though. He could not allow her to work. The paparazzi and media would not let it slide. He knew that they would be interested in what the wife of a newly-married billionaire who was one of the most sought after eligible bachelors before. They would highlight the breaking news.
Olivia wanted to work an ordinary job. He could never allow that even if he wanted to.
What amused him at that moment was the way she quoted her words. It was as if she had accepted him as her husband, as fake as their marriage was. She was probably not even aware of how she had said it as she seemed to be drowning in her misery.
“We will find a way out. Don’t worry for now.” He said in a comforting tone. He did not know what else to do or say. He could not give her false hopes but he could not hurt her even more.
She was surprised at the way he said it in such a gentle way. She expected him to argue or something. She was thinking he would be rude to her and tell her off as it was something they had already agreed on in their contract.
But she was seeing a new side of him. She did not even want to tell him about what was worrying her. But his tone and the way he asked her about it made her say it all.
“I am going now.” He said as he got up. He grabbed his suit jacket from the back of the chair and wore it.
He was doing the most ordinary thing, but she could not remove her eyes from him. He was wearing a grey-colored suit with a blue tie. His suit fit him perfectly. She was sure it was custom-made. His height always amazed her although she never acknowledged it. His proportions were all perfectly complementing his height.
His hair was slicked back as he usually liked it to be, it seemed. She had often saw the same hairstyle on him. To be honest, it suited him a lot. He surely knew he was handsome. That much confidence would not take place inside a person if they did not know how good they looked.
“Why are you noticing him this much?” The little voice in her head interrogated. She quickly averted her eyes as his eyes met hers.
She did not say anything as she saw him leave after saying good bye. It was the first time he was leaving with a good bye. It was the first time she whispered good bye as the door closed.
