Chapter 34: Chapter 34
She had been back from her apartment. She had visited her mom and Mary. Sana tagged along as she did not have anything else to do that day. Amelia could not help crying when she saw Olivia. She had never been away from her, but she was glad that her daughter had found love and was happy with her marriage. She did not want more from life.
Olivia was glad that the nurse was with her 24/7. She saw how active and professional the nurse was. She was taking care of her just like how Olivia did. She was thankful to Thomas for that.
They spent a quality time together. She made dinner with Sana and had cheerful time dining with her beloved ones. When it was time for her to return, she got sad instantly. It was late at night. Amelia kept telling her to invite Thomas for dinner, but she made an excuse.
How could she tell her that she did not want to see his face after what happened between them the previous night. She did not even want to go to his condo, but she had no choice.
Now, she was standing there looking at the door. Just how thoughtless she was, she did not ask him for the code or the key. There she was trying to avoid him only to be stuck in such an ironic situation. She had no choice than to knock.
She knocked and waited with a fast beating heart. She did not know why she was nervous. Or maybe she knew!
She heard a click and saw the door being opened. A shirtless Thomas appeared making her gasp.
She quickly averted her eyes and tried to walk passed by him. She shook her head as she walked ahead of him leaving a confused Thomas behind. She was acting so weird.
“Wait!” He called from behind making her steps falter. She clutched her purse tighter in her hands, “I want to talk.” He said with a gentleness in his voice. She was torn between wanting to leave and staying there and listen to what he had to say.
She sighed and turned around. Her eyes met his naked torso. His body was like perfectly sculptured body of a Greek God. No wonder he was so self-centered. He had everything: money, fame, beauty.
She averted her eyes again before she could be caught staring, “Will you put on something first?” She asked in an irritated tone. Why was he flexing his six-pecks in front of her? He was perfect! There she said it. Now, he can put on his clothes back, she thought to herself.
“Sure.” She could deter the smirk in his voice and glared at him as he went to his room and got back with a shirt on his, um, great body.
“What did you want to talk about?” She asked seemingly in hurry. She wanted to go to her room.
“Sit.” He motioned at the couch, but she kept standing. She did not like his authoritative tone at all.
He must have gotten why she was not complying, “Please.” He inserted after noticing her fixated on her spot.
She went to the couch and took a seat thinking what he wanted to talk about. He saw that she was somewhat relaxed when he talked gently with her. When she first got inside, he thought she was going to smack him or something. She looked angry for some reason.
“I wanted to apologize for last night. I don’t know what happened to me. I assure you that this won’t happen again.” She looked so shocked. She could not help her mouth being wide open after she heard him.
Thomas Walker was apologizing to her? HER?
He looked up to see why she was not saying anything only to find out that she was looking at him with wide open mouth.
“What?” He asked when she kept staring at him like that. She finally got control over herself and cleared her throat.
“Uh, it’s okay. Just make sure nothing of that sort happens again.” She had forgiven him so easily. She was as surprised at herself as he was.
He was expecting her to argue again asking why he did that, but she looked cool—no hint of remorse.
He was surprised the other night. Sure, he was being a dick, but what kind of a girl would resist him? From the moment she came into his life, he was experiencing new things that he had never experienced before. She was so different from other, and he had judged her.
He thought she would be a whore who slept around because isn’t that what strippers did? But she was not like that. She would even shiver whenever he touched her…like the two times he kissed her or when he danced with her at their wedding.
And the fear in her eyes when they were in proximity the previous night…why did she react like that?
Just how resistant to intimacy someone could be?
He had never met someone like her. Others would willingly throw themselves at him. He had an intense self-confidence because he knew that nobody could resist him and his charms.
“Of course.” He replied to her nodding his head. Although he was worried how that would be possible while sharing a space and seeing her every day.
Pink really suited her, he thought as he looked at her attire. He was so afraid of her reaction now that he did not even get a good look at her that day.
When he returned from office, he knocked at her door to talk to her. He wanted to clear the weird air that had formed around them. But she was not in her room. He wanted to call and ask her where she was, but he thought the better of it.
It was hard to keep guessing what would irk her at that point. But he was doing that. He kept making guesses.
“I am going to sleep.” She announced while yawning.
He would find it disgusting when someone did that, but why was he fighting the smile at that moment?
“Will you make me tea again?” He asked just as she was about to get up. She turned her head and frowned.
He assumed that she had already had dinner as it was late at night. He wanted to ask where she had been, but he did not. He knew she would not like him interfering in her matters.
He had brought her dinner again, but he did not tell her because he knew she had already eaten. He would have to dine alone then.
‘Just like how you have been doing it. What’s changed?’ The inner voice questioned him which he did not have answers for.
“Why? Don’t you know how to make tea?” She asked making her round eyes even rounder and wider.
He wanted to laugh at her assumption. But what else would she have guessed when he was asking her to make him tea.
“No.” He shrugged innocently. After a moment of thinking and analyzing him with her deep eyes, she sighed.
“Why do you have it then?” She went to the kitchen and showed him the jar that contained leafs. Smarty-pants much? He thought.
“Oh that? I have everything if you have noticed. The panty and fridge is always stocked.” He replied. It was true. There was a staff in the building which he had hired specifically to look after the groceries and all. He liked the kitchen to be full.
What he was lying about was the fact that he surely knew how to make tea. But he did not want her to sleep so soon. He was bored all day at work. He wanted to tease her without her knowing that he was playing around with her. It was so much fun when she was in oblivion.
She narrowed her eyes at him but finally seemed to buy his lie. She started heating the water for the tea. She would make some for her as well while she was at it.
“What’s this?” She asked pointing at the bag which was lying on the table.
“Dinner.” He simply replied leaning against the kitchen counter and looked at her. She looked cute while working in the kitchen.
“Haven’t you eaten yet?” She asked with surprise while looking at the wall clock. It was past midnight.
“No.” He replied briefly again. For some weird reasons, he liked the conversation they were having at that moment. So ordinary but so…enjoyable. That did not even make sense. But it did for him.
She looked at him confusedly. Why was he asking her to make tea when he had not had his dinner? She shrugged pouring the hot water in two cups.
“I will make dinner from now on till the time we are here. No need to bring anything from outside.” She said while she was busy with stirring the leaf inside the water to bring out the colour.
He looked at her raising a brow at how authoritative she sounded. But he liked it.
It was weird. He had never liked being ordered around, and nobody dared to do that to him.
