Chapter 595: Chapter 595
Mu Shinian’s mention of the Lu Family that Lu Jingchen could guess without even thinking.
After all, in An City, the Lu Family that everyone knows could only be their family.
A glimpse of anticipation from the corner of his eyes landed on the eager boy before him; a spontaneous smile curving the corners of his mouth, he nodded slightly, uh-huh’ing in a faint voice.
When Mu Shinian saw Lu Jingchen actually admit it, he was stunned once again, his mouth slowly shaping into an O, and it took him a while to come back to his senses and ask hesitantly, "Then, what’s your relationship with Lu Yulin?"
"He’s my nephew." Lu Jingchen spoke without a hint of emotional fluctuation in his voice, even a faint smile could be detected, his slender hands resting on the gear shift and steering wheel, his demeanor regal and elegant.
Although Mu Shinian was still somewhat shocked, his tone remained polite. Thinking of that guy Lu Yulin, he couldn’t help but start to rant, "How come you’re so different from your nephew? You look so outstanding, while that guy Lu Yulin appears so, well, dimwitted?"
"Are you his classmate?" Lu Jingchen did not respond but rather asked placidly, obviously not taking to heart that this child was speaking poorly of his own nephew.
Sometimes he’s very protective, but it depends on who and against whom he needs to be protective.
The Mu Shinian before him was Song Qiao’s cousin, which naturally made for a special consideration.
Mu Shinian nodded, straightened up and looked ahead, then began to count on his fingers, saying, "Lu Yulin and I are in the same class. This guy always fails his exams, he’s so stupid. I even tutored him, but last night my sister fired me from the job."
Mu Shinian’s test scores were always among the top three in the grade, a true academic ace, so he often took on tutoring work to earn some money, looking to alleviate some of the burden on Song Qiao. Lu Yulin was definitely a problem student at the school, often getting into truancy and fights, and his grades were miserable to boot.
But given Lu Yulin’s status, the school could do no more than turn a blind eye to his behavior.
Perhaps the Lu Family was very fond of Lu Yulin as well, hardly managing him, until later an elder who seemed related to Lu Yulin asked the school leaders to find a classmate to tutor him, and Mu Shinian was the first person his class teacher thought of.
Firstly, Mu Shinian’s academic performance had never fallen out of the top three at school; secondly, his family’s situation in An City was known to many. Their class teacher, a female in her late twenties, naturally wanted to help Mu Shinian in secret.
However, Mu Shinian had never imagined that his classmate’s uncle would turn out to be his brother-in-law, and that classmate was someone who always gave him a headache.
"He just doesn’t like studying!" Speaking of his nephew, not only was Mu Shinian, the classmate, vexed, but sometimes even Lu Jingchen found it a headache.
At sixteen, Lu Yulin was still going through a rebellious phase, and he had been indulged by the elders in the Lu family since he was young, especially by the Lu patriarch who spoiled his only grandson to his heart’s content, afraid that a careless bump or scrape would harm him, and hence never really strictly disciplined Lu Yulin.
That was a stark contrast to their own generation.
Mu Shinian nodded, understandingly, and suddenly seemed a bit downcast.
He of course knew that Lu Yulin was a spoiled person, which made him quite unruly.
As for himself, it was quite the opposite; although his grandfather had loved him a lot as a child, perhaps due to Mu Nuan and the lack of a father since childhood, he always felt like he had to tread carefully, as if any misstep might lead to being abandoned again, so he had always tried to develop in the best direction, to be a well-behaved child.
Maybe whilst Lu Yulin and his brothers were off fooling around, he was still diligently studying.
All of a sudden, with the atmosphere sinking, Lu Jingchen looked at Mu Shinian, who seemed suddenly saddened in the passenger seat, his eyebrows twitching slightly, recalling what Gu Xicheng had found out, then also figured it out.
The man’s tone was gentle, like a kind-hearted parent, addressing Mu Shinian, "You’re good too. If I had to choose between you and Yulin, I would choose you as my nephew."
