Chapter 470: Chapter 470
The man, handsome as he was, cast a faint glance at the steaming meal freshly taken out of the microwave in his hand. His face was still expressionless, even gloomy to the point it seemed water could drip from it. His thin lips were tightly sealed, yet he said nothing, completely ignoring Assistant Xue as he headed straight for the elevator.
Assistant Xue had just been given a light look by Lu Jingchen, yet he felt as if a cold wind had whistled through his collar and entered his body, causing him to involuntarily break out in goosebumps, making him feel unwell all over.
The feeling that subconsciously sent a shiver through him made him deeply realize, ’Whenever the CEO looks like that, it’s certain that nothing good is going to happen.’
This was an experience that Assistant Xue had learned over his many years of serving. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝⚑𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖⚑𝕟𝕖𝕥
This time, he paid no heed to the hot and fragrant meal he had just warmed up, setting it down on the table to one side before quickly following after him.
When Lu Jingchen arrived at the elevator, he saw that the CEO’s private elevator was still on the ground floor, probably because Murong Rui had taken it when she left earlier. Otherwise, no one else in the company would dare to use this elevator.
The other employees’ elevator, on the other hand, was currently situated a couple of floors below, so without waiting for the CEO’s private elevator to arrive, he walked straight to the employees’ elevator.
When Assistant Xue arrived, he saw Lu Jingchen entering the elevator and hurried over, bearing what he considered the perfect smile, he said, "President, are you off work?"
Lu Jingchen pressed the elevator close button, his gaze aloof as he looked at Assistant Xue. He didn’t answer the question, instead saying, "Come in, take me to the night market."
Assistant Xue was startled and asked subconsciously, "Are you going to the night market in the city center, President? Or is there something specific you wish to purchase? Actually, I can go buy it for you..."
Hearing Assistant Xue’s words, Lu Jingchen slightly furrowed his brows, not answering but instead retorted with a question, "Does An City have many night markets?"
Assistant Xue paused, carefully tallying up the night markets he knew, and there were indeed seven or eight, both big and small. He nodded, "An City has quite a few night markets, big and small. Which one does the President want to visit?"
The furrows in Lu Jingchen’s brow deepened, and even his complexion grew darker, yet he didn’t immediately respond to Assistant Xue’s question, "Are you coming in or not?"
Assistant Xue only felt a chill sweep up from the back of his collar once again, and this time without any hesitation, he walked directly into the elevator.
The elevator went down and then suddenly stopped at the seventeenth floor, where the doors opened to reveal two young women in work clothes standing there, both carrying crossbody bags and holding laptop cases, seemingly engaged in a conversation.
Assistant Xue glanced over and immediately recognized them as company employees. He said nothing, simply standing behind Lu Jingchen like a bodyguard.
The two young women, upon hearing the elevator doors open, turned around and were instantly startled to see Lu Jingchen and Assistant Xue standing inside the elevator.
Seeing Assistant Xue in the employees’ elevator was not surprising, but the sight of them in the elevator was indeed shocking enough that they were too scared to move.
Lu Jingchen, observing the two female employees who looked at him with disbelief, slightly furrowed his brows, his voice so deep and devoid of any emotion, "Aren’t you coming in?"
He remembered that the seventeenth floor was supposed to be the Design Department, and these two people were likely designers.
Immediately regaining their composure, one of the women smiled and nodded, "Coming..."
As she spoke, she quickly pulled her colleague into the elevator with her.
Once the two had entered, Lu Jingchen promptly pressed the button to close the elevator doors, holding a mobile phone that he had just taken out. He texted a message and sent it; the recipient’s name on the screen was "Big Nephew."
Rong Yue stood just behind Lu Jingchen, lifting her gaze cautiously, her eyes falling on the man’s figure. Although she could only see the side of his face, she found herself utterly entranced in an instant.
Though she was an employee of the company, the number of times she had seen Lu Jingchen was truly scarce. Counting this occasion, she had only seen Lu Jingchen three times: once when she went back to her rental, and she saw Lu Jingchen with Song Qiao; another time in the morning when she was going to work and saw Lu Jingchen and Assistant Xue entering through the front gate, watching from a distance; and then there was this time.
Perhaps noticing someone staring, Lu Jingchen looked towards Rong Yue. When he saw the near-obsessive gaze in her eyes, he could not help frowning, a hint of displeasure appearing on his face.
He never liked being stared at with such eyes, deeming it extremely impolite, and Rong Yue had clearly made this mistake.
When Rong Yue saw Lu Jingchen turn his head, her heart skipped a beat. But as she caught the displeasure on his face, she involuntarily shuddered, feeling as if her heart had skipped a beat and her hands had gone cold.
When the elevator stopped at the underground parking lot, Lu Jingchen stepped out, with Assistant Xue immediately following behind him.
Rong Yue still stood inside the elevator, feeling her breathing to be somewhat difficult. Watching Lu Jingchen’s retreating figure, a sudden surge of past news reports came to mind, bringing about an inexplicable sense of unwillingness.
After all, from any aspect, she considered herself far superior to Song Qiao, yet Lu Jingchen had married a woman like Song Qiao.
Her female colleague standing beside her had also noticed the cold glance Lu Jingchen had thrown at Rong Yue. It wasn’t until the sound of car engines resonated in the parking lot that she turned to Rong Yue and asked, "Xiao Yue, why did the president look at you like that? Did you do something wrong?"
Song Yue came back to her senses, tilted her head to look at her and pressed her lips together before speaking, "It was my lack of manners just now, it’s nothing, let’s go."

Over at the night market, Lu Yulin was having a ball with both hands full, one holding a stick of lamb skewers, the other wielding a roasted corn, eating merrily away. Mu Shinian held two cups of milk tea in one hand and one stick of lamb skewers in the other. Her eating manners were more refined, but she still exuded an innate aristocratic air that prevented her from looking delicate or out of place.
It was probably because Elder Mu had taught them well.
Song Qiao held a cup of freshly bought passion fruit juice and sipped from it. Lately, she had developed a craving for sour flavors, unsure if it was related to her current condition; the passion fruit juice’s tartness was just right, not enough to soften the teeth. She had already finished one cup and now held another, savoring it slowly.
Watching Mu Shinian and Lu Yulin enjoying their food, a smile emerged instinctively, filling her heart with satisfaction.
The two youngsters seemed to genuinely enjoy the night market, perhaps because it was their first visit. They had been wandering around, taking in the sights here and there, buying many adorable and inexpensive trinkets.
Since tomorrow is Saturday, the night market was bustling with people, mostly students or couples strolling about. Even though Mu Shinian and Lu Yulin were no longer little, Song Qiao still felt anxious about them, keeping a vigilant eye on their whereabouts.
After finishing his lamb skewer, Lu Yulin’s gaze landed on a barbecue stall not far away. He turned to Mu Shinian and asked, "Do you want to eat some barbecue?"
Mu Shinian followed his gaze and saw a roadside stall ahead. The stall was not small, fitted with more than a dozen tables, and doing good business. From this spot, the enticing aroma of the grilled food was detectable.
After hesitating, seeing the others relishing their food, he nodded and said, "I want to!"
However, after speaking, he hesitated again, "But cousin probably wouldn’t agree to us eating this, right? I’ve had it once before. Grandpa scolded me when he found out."
Seeing Shinian’s eagerness, Lu Yulin patted his shoulder and said with a smile, "Don’t worry, auntie will definitely agree. Just wait here for a moment."
Having said that, he walked straight to where Song Qiao and Chu Munan were.
He stopped right in front of Song Qiao and lifted his head, looking earnestly at her, "Auntie, we want to eat barbecue, can we go? We’re a bit tired from walking around, and I’ve never had it before."
Song Qiao was actually not very keen on those street barbecues, given that the meat’s origins were dubious and the news had once reported that the lamb skewers from street stalls were actually made of rat meat.
But seeing Lu Yulin’s expectant look, she figured it should be okay if they didn’t eat too much and nodded her head, "Okay!"
Assistant Xue and Lu Jingchen arrived at the night market when it was at its busiest. There were no parking spots available outside, and after taking a glance at his wristwatch, Lu Jingchen got out of the car without paying attention to Assistant Xue and said indifferently, "You go park the car first, feel free to have fun somewhere. I’ll call you later to pick me up."
Assistant Xue, of course, had no objections. Despite being curious about what their boss was doing at the night market, standing with him was psychologically demanding, so Xue Te preferred to wander around on his own.
Leaving his suit jacket in the car, Lu Jingchen didn’t take it with him, wearing only a white shirt. An City was hot during the day, but the temperature had dropped significantly at night.
When Lu Jingchen found Song Qiao and the others, he happened to see Song Qiao and Chu Munan chatting and laughing together, and instantly, a surge of anger filled his chest.
