Chapter 365: Chapter 365
The man’s expression was still somewhat gloomy; he threw the pen in his hand aside and leaned back in his chair. Raising his hand, he rubbed his forehead, feeling an inexplicable irritability, and then stretched out his hand to adjust the tie around his neck.
The phone on the desk began to ring. Lu Jingchen reached for it, glanced at the caller ID, noticed that it was Lu An’an calling, furrowed his brows, but still slid his finger to answer and held it to his ear, greeting indifferently. For more chapters visit novel·fire·net
Lu An’an looked towards the direction of the break room, hesitated for a moment, but still took her phone and walked towards the hallway outside the office. At the end of the hallway was a large floor-to-ceiling window where they often liked to sit for a while after eating lunch. Just as she left the office, Lu Jingchen answered the call and she immediately asked, "Brother, did you have a fight with Qiaoqiao?"
Seeing Song Qiao appearing quite downcast today, even giving off a nearly lifeless aura, Lu An’an instinctively thought that her brother and Song Qiao had argued.
Although it was just a guess, she had always been very fond of Song Qiao, and now that Song Qiao was married to Lu Jingchen, and being her sister-in-law, she naturally liked her even more.
She had always felt that no woman was worthy of her brother until she met Song Qiao. She felt quite comfortable with Song Qiao for a couple of reasons: first, because Song Qiao was naturally beautiful, and second, because Song Qiao had a good personality and was easy to talk to. Given her brother’s character and indifferent temperament, only a woman like Song Qiao could tolerate him.
Previously, Song Qiao gave her the impression of being like a Ninja Turtle; even if someone bothered her, as long as they didn’t cross her line, Song Qiao would endure it.
Now, Song Qiao was inexplicably with her elder brother, and she fully supported this relationship.
As the saying goes, it’s better to demolish ten temples than to destroy one marriage; she was still very clear about this.
Lu Jingchen sat in front of the desk, his gaze fell on the data displayed on the computer, he tugged at the corner of his mouth, but laughed coldly, "Why would you think we argued?"
Upon hearing this, Lu An’an thought it made sense, pondered a bit, and then said, "Just now when I came by the office, I saw Qiaoqiao looking gloomy, and her dark circles are so severe, probably from not sleeping well last night. Brother, if you weren’t arguing, why would Qiaoqiao be ?"
She paused, suddenly seemed to realize something, her eyebrows jumped, and she exclaimed in surprise, "Brother, did you keep her up all night so she couldn’t sleep?"
"Who told you I kept her up all night so she couldn’t sleep?" The man’s face turned dark, clearly looking displeased.
Even though they were far apart and separated by a phone, for some reason, Lu An’an felt a chill upon hearing his voice laced with a hint of coldness, and cautiously explained, "I was just guessing?"
Suddenly, Lu An’an felt somewhat aggrieved; it was the first time her brother had ever been harsh with her, but now he was actually being harsh to her.
This was simply... unforgivable.
Lu Jingchen seemed to realize his tone was harsh too; after a moment of silence, his voice softened a bit and he said, "Keep an eye on Song Qiao for me, and call me if there’s anything."
"Brother, what exactly is going on with you guys?"
"Nothing," the man clearly didn’t want to elaborate, his tone indifferent, "We had some unpleasantness last night, help me take care of her."
Lu An’an didn’t ask further, quickly nodded in agreement, "I understand, then brother, that’s it for now, I’m going back to work."
"Hmm." The man responded indifferently and then hung up the phone, setting it back on the desk.
The office fell silent once again, with only the sound of the man’s breathing heard. The air seemed to solidify in an instant, even the temperature seemed to start dropping.
He unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt, rubbed his temples, then picked up the pen to continue reviewing the document, and signed it only after making sure everything was correct.
Song Qiao went into the break room to make herself a cup of coffee, not adding a single bit of sugar, and drank it all in one gulp as soon as it cooled enough, filling her mouth fully with the bitter taste.
Black coffee is inherently bitter, even when sugar is added it’s still bitter, and now, without any sugar, she grimaced from the bitterness.
