Chapter 298: Chapter 298
Hua Xiaomo didn’t say much and quickly got into the car. The car started, following the ambulance towards the hospital.
Inside Xie He Hospital, Qi Lingfeng had been carried into the emergency surgery room and was undergoing urgent life-saving procedures.
An unknown amount of time passed, and he still hadn’t escaped the threat to his life.
By now, Old Master Qi and Qi Lingfeng’s mother, Shen Qingxiang, had both arrived.
They bombarded Hua Xiaomo with questions, and she didn’t know how to respond. However, Qi Longbing swiftly took over and answered each question for her.
Old Master Qi’s face darkened.
"Your brother was suddenly shot! Where were you? What were you doing? How could you have no vigilance at all?" For the first time, Old Master Qi was visibly angry with Qi Longbing.
This shooting was far more serious than the last. That previous time, when an assailant had shot at Qi Longbing, the bullet hadn’t hit a vital area. This time, however, the bullet struck Qi Lingfeng squarely in the chest, near his heart.
"I’m sorry, Old Master. It’s my fault. I didn’t take good care of my brother," Qi Longbing said, his exceptionally handsome face shadowed with gloom. His expression was somber; there were things he couldn’t articulate. He didn’t want to say more at that moment, knowing that further explanations would be useless.
Hua Xiaomo watched Qi Longbing endure Old Master Qi’s unfair accusations.
For some reason, at that very moment, she couldn’t bear to see him face such unwarranted criticism. She quickly stepped forward and spoke up.
"Old Master, you can’t blame Ah Bing for this! Lingfeng and I were the only ones there at the time. It was my fault; I didn’t take good care of Lingfeng. If you must blame someone, blame me!" Hua Xiaomo declared, her eyes filled with anguish. The tear tracks still glistening at the corners of her eyes made her look utterly pitiful.
Hua Xiaomo felt even worse. Only she knew what had truly happened. But who could be the real culprit behind this shooting? After considering it, she feared it could only be that man, Sha Po Lang! Sha Po Lang had attempted to steal Blue Moon and ended up being pursued by Qi Lingfeng. Consequently, Qi Lingfeng had not only reclaimed Blue Moon from him but had also taught Sha Po Lang a harsh lesson, breaking one of his arms. Now, it was highly probable that Sha Po Lang had come to seek revenge on Qi Lingfeng. As these thoughts surfaced, Hua Xiaomo’s gaze grew heavier. No, she couldn’t let Sha Po Lang have another chance to harm Lingfeng. Yet, just as this resolve formed, a grim little laugh escaped her. Would Lingfeng even survive this ordeal?
Old Master Qi was so angry he was speechless, staring at Hua Xiaomo for a long moment without a word.
"Feng’er... that boy... I don’t know what’s gotten into him. He’s just so taken with you, wanting to marry you," Old Master Qi finally said, his aged face growing cold.
"Miss Hua, I hope you will consider this matter carefully. When my grandson wakes up, I expect you to tell him your decision. Don’t disappoint him, and don’t disappoint me either," Old Master Qi stated, then turned his gaze to the person beside him.
"Qin Feng, investigate yesterday’s events immediately. I want to know every single detail, from start to finish. Who dared to shoot my grandson? I will not spare them!" Old Master Qi declared, then glanced at the deeply grieving Shen Qingxiang.
"Stop crying. Stay here and take good care of Lingfeng. I’m going to the director’s office to speak with him," Old Master Qi said before leaving. Qin Feng accompanied him towards the director’s office.
Shen Qingxiang looked at Hua Xiaomo, an inexplicable resentment stirring in her heart for some reason.
"This is all your fault, you woman! If it weren’t for you, why would my son have been shot? Give me back my son! Give me back my son!!" Shen Qingxiang shrieked, losing control as she glared at Hua Xiaomo, her eyes completely bloodshot.
This woman, it was as if she were an enemy from a past life, determined to oppose me at every turn! And now, look, she’s harmed my son! He’s in the hospital, and we don’t even know if he’ll live or die! Get full chapters from 𝔫𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔩•𝗳𝗂𝗋𝖾•𝕟𝕖𝕥
"Aunt Shen, I’m sorry! It’s all my fault," Hua Xiaomo said. Even though she felt deeply wronged, she didn’t want to argue at this moment. If only time could turn back, she wished she had been by Qi Lingfeng’s side then, walking with him, instead of him being left alone on the mountain to face that danger. Perhaps if there had been two of them, even if he hadn’t sensed the peril, she might have been able to share some of the burden, to be a little more alert. Maybe then, this terrible thing wouldn’t have happened.
"It is your fault! All your fault! You’re such a restless, trouble-making woman! Why did you have to lure Lingfeng up the mountain? What exactly were you plotting!" Shen Qingxiang berated her uncontrollably. Hua Xiaomo felt her eyes sting with pain from the harsh words.
Hua Xiaomo was speechless, her lips trembling.
Nearby, Qi Longbing had been watching them argue and couldn’t hold back any longer. He stepped forward, pulled Hua Xiaomo to his side, and faced Shen Qingxiang.
"Aunt, you don’t need to blame Xiao Mo . She did nothing wrong. She wasn’t the one who suggested going up the mountain; Lingfeng wanted to take her," Qi Longbing interjected, his handsome face clouding over with displeasure.
He had already endured enough. He couldn’t just stand by and let anyone repeatedly and senselessly blame *his* Xiao Mo. Even if the one lying in that room was his own brother, he couldn’t tolerate his mother accusing his woman .
Shen Qingxiang was momentarily speechless, staring at Qi Longbing. "How would you know? Were you with them at the time? How can you be so sure *this woman* wasn’t the one who suggested going up the mountain?"
"And who was the shooter? Why did they want to kill my son?" Shen Qingxiang pressed on, her gaze shifting to glare fiercely at Hua Xiaomo. Suddenly, she shrieked uncontrollably, "Was it you? Did *you*, woman, attract some enemy who ended up harming my son?"
"What nonsense are you spouting? How could it be Xiao Mo? She doesn’t have enemies like that!" Qi Longbing retorted furiously, his hand gripping Hua Xiaomo’s elbow tightly. "Let’s go. We shouldn’t stay here."
But unexpectedly, Hua Xiaomo pulled her arm free. She looked at Qi Longbing and then at Shen Qingxiang. "Ah Bing, Aunt Shen, please stop arguing. It’s all my fault. I didn’t take good care of Lingfeng. I’m going to stay here and wait for him to wake up!"
Shen Qingxiang glared at Hua Xiaomo and said resentfully, "Fine, wait for my son to wake up! Let me tell you, I’ll tell him a few things in no uncertain terms. I’ll make sure he doesn’t marry you. You can forget about ever stepping foot into our Qi Family’s home!"
