Chapter 158: Chapter 158
Originally, Wen Yajun had resigned from his courier job and wanted to work at the Qi Imperial Court. However, entering a world-renowned top 500 company like the Qi Imperial Court wasn’t easy.
So, he thought of Hua Xiaomo, hoping she could put in a good word for him.
"You didn’t mention it?" Wen Yajun said, looking at her, and steeled himself. "Xiao Mo, I... I know I was too presumptuous, and I shouldn’t have asked this of you, but I really want to work here..."
Hua Xiaomo furrowed her brows. She had planned to bring it up first thing in the morning, but with Qi Longbing treating her that way, how could she possibly speak up for him? That guy is clearly up to no good.
He wanted to join the Qi Family, but he didn’t know how desperately she wanted to leave it!
"Wen Yajun, you can look for other jobs; it doesn’t have to be at the Qi Family’s," Hua Xiaomo said, trying to reason with him.
"But I just want to join the Qi Family. Xiao Mo, can you help me? I’d really be grateful," Wen Yajun pleaded, his eyes brimming with hope.
Hua Xiaomo hesitated. How could she help him get into the Qi Family? At this moment, she didn’t know what to say. She really didn’t want to work at the Qi Family anymore, yet this person wanted to join. How strange. She was about to say something else when suddenly, a voice interrupted.
"Turning a blind eye isn’t like you, Hua Xiaomo, is it?"
Startled, Hua Xiaomo looked to the side. A handsome man clad in a black suit was walking toward her.
"Yu Bao, you heard everything?" Hua Xiaomo asked, her gaze turning somber. This man is like my shadow; whenever and wherever I go, he follows. In his presence, I feel like there’s nowhere to hide. The feeling is aggravating, yet at the same time, tinged with a faint sense of helplessness.
"Yes," Yu Bao stated, then got straight to the point. "Hua Xiaomo, since he’s your friend, you should help him. Go on up and have a good talk with President Qi. That way, there won’t be any problem for your friend to join the Qi Family."
Wen Yajun’s face lit up with joy. He turned to Yu Bao. "Sir, are you serious? If Xiao Mo just mentions it to President Qi, there’d be no problem with me joining the Qi Family?"
Yu Bao glanced at him disdainfully, his tone icy. "Don’t pin your hopes on me. It all depends on Miss Hua’s performance."
The words were gentle but clear enough. Hearing them, Hua Xiaomo’s pretty face fell. She really wanted to refuse such a request, but seeing Wen Yajun’s expectant face, she couldn’t bear to let him down.
"Alright, I’ll go up and talk to him. You wait here."
"Thank you, thank you, Xiao Mo!"
Hua Xiaomo mustered a strained smile. "Don’t thank me yet; who knows if it’ll be successful." After speaking, Hua Xiaomo glanced at Yu Bao. As she quickly brushed past him, her pretty face darkened, and her tone was far from pleased. "Come with me."
Yu Bao, expressionless, followed her to a corner. Suddenly, Hua Xiaomo whirled around and glared at him.
"Honestly, Mr. Yu, I really want to beat you up!" Hua Xiaomo said angrily, her slender hands balled into fists.
"Why? Just because of what I said earlier?" Yu Bao responded with an unexpected chuckle.
"It’s not just that," Hua Xiaomo continued, her eyes holding a faint chill. "I really don’t know what I did in a past life to incur the wrath of your President. It’s as if he won’t rest until I’m utterly destroyed. Is this fun for him? Tell me, what’s the reason? Does he truly hate me that much?"
Her final sentence was laced with extreme indignation. Today, she truly couldn’t hold back any longer.
The contract period was nearing its end, and her patience was wearing thinner by the day.
Yu Bao listened, his brows knitting slightly. "Hua Xiaomo, why do you still believe President Qi hates you, even now?"
"Humph!" Hua Xiaomo snorted coldly. Then, without looking at him anymore, she strode briskly towards the executive elevator, flinging a stinging sentence into the air, "I, Hua Xiaomo, am not so easily broken!"
Yu Bao watched her enter the elevator and shook his head slightly. Perhaps this was a classic case of an outsider seeing things more clearly than those involved. This Hua Xiaomo wouldn’t turn back until she’d run headfirst into a wall and drawn blood.
「President’s office.」
Hua Xiaomo entered with her head down. She didn’t dare meet his gaze, looking instead towards her own seat.
But before she could sit down, a furious roar suddenly erupted. "What the hell are you doing back here, Hua Xiaomo!"
Hua Xiaomo bit her lip slightly. Endure, endure, endure! I must hold it in!
A moment later, her clenched hands relaxed, and she forced a smile onto her face. "President Qi, look at how worked up you are! Your handsome and noble face is twisted quite grotesquely!"
Qi Longbing looked at her current expression, and suddenly, he found he couldn’t unleash his anger. He said irritably, "You have the nerve to say that? Isn’t this all your fault?"
Hearing this, Hua Xiaomo feigned an innocent laugh. "President Qi, you give me too much credit. How could a mere secretary like me possibly affect the mood of someone as distinguished as yourself?"
"You have a point. Logically speaking, there’s no way you could affect my mood! But the fact is—I am furious! Hua Xiaomo, you deal with it!" Qi Longbing didn’t waste words with her; his handsome face darkened, exuding an unpredictable, chilling cruelty.
"I... I’m sorry! I’ll make you another cup of coffee to help you calm down!" Hua Xiaomo had barely finished speaking when he cut her off.
"Forget it! I don’t want you ruining another outfit. That suit costs more than several months of your salary," Qi Longbing scoffed coldly.
He looked away. Truthfully, he wished he could stop paying her so much attention, but he found it impossible. As long as Hua Xiaomo was flitting about in his sight, he couldn’t focus on his work. It seemed he constantly needed to keep her happy and smiling. That would be good for her, and for him too. He really had taken quite a liking to her. He found Hua Xiaomo to be exactly his type, and her personality was genuinely intriguing. He liked this kind of girl; she was just his cup of tea.
Qi Longbing inwardly sneered at himself with a touch of dark amusement.
"President Qi..." Hua Xiaomo looked up at him. His handsome, almost angelic face no longer seemed so menacingly dark; the corners of his lips even seemed to carry a slight upward curve. She cautiously asked, "You’re not angry anymore, are you?" Google seaʀᴄh 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭•𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚•𝕟𝕖𝕥
Qi Longbing shot her a look, his eyes still simmering with repressed anger, but he said nothing more. He quickly headed to the washroom. As he entered, he tossed over his shoulder, "If you don’t want me to be angry, then focus on your work and do it diligently."
