Chapter 108: Chapter 108

Carmen took out a blue short-sleeve dress with a sweetheart cut from her closet while humming a happy tune.

Mrs. Wallner walked into the room with a dumbfounded look; she couldn't recall the last time she saw her daughter in this mood. "Tell me why you look so happy today." She demanded, settling down on Carmen's bed.

"Mom, the Jones invited us tonight. Today is the birthday of their lost daughter, and they want to introduce her to everyone," Carmen replied enthusiastically.

"So?" Mrs. Wallner blinked innocently, still confused as to how this was connected to her daughter's sudden happiness.

Carmen rolled her eyes and dropped her dress on the couch, saying, "This is actually beneficial to me. Firstly, I know Sean will be there tonight; even though he and Jacob are not the best of friends, they always attend each other's events." She carefully explained.

"Carmen, when will you finally wake up from your dreams? I get you love Sean Wilson, but can't you see it's time you let him go? He has a family of his own while you are here still sulking about him."

She then added, "You are 28 years old, yet you don't have a boyfriend. Don't you feel ashamed in the midst of Olivia and Rachel? They are happily married and even have kids." Mrs. Wallner shouted at her daughter.

"I would have been married and even had a kid with Sean if that bitch didn't come from nowhere and steal Sean away from me. Mom, do you think I'm happy? That's why I want to take Sean away from her. I have to prove that I'm far better than that slutty bitch he calls his wife."

"Carmen, calm down. You know your dad dislikes Sean for dumping you, and he is never going to approve of you two even if you successfully win him back."

"Then what should I do, mom? I truly want Sean to be mine; you know that it has always been him." Carmen burst into tears as she recalled the times she used to fantasize about becoming his wife.

Growing up to be a successful woman, she loved and cherished Sean, always looking forward to the day when he would notice her and love her back.

There were days when her desires were so strong that she would travel all the way back to America from Canada, just stealing glances at Sean until she was satisfied.

Mrs. Wallner held her hand and said", Sweetie, there are other impressive bachelors out there who will be glad to get together with you."

"What are you talking about?" Carmen demanded, withdrawing her hand from her mother's grip. She couldn't ignore the scheming look in her mother's eyes.

"I mean men like Jacob Jones," she responded with a smug smirk.

" Mom! No way! He is Sean's enemy. How will Sean feel when he finds out?"

"Why are you so dumb whenever it comes to Sean Wilson? Do you think he cares about you or whatever you do? If he did, he wouldn't have dumped you for someone else." Mrs. Wallner blurted out in anger, making Carmen's eyes tear for the second time.

"I'm sorry, baby; I didn't mean it like that. All I'm saying is that this party is indeed a good avenue to become friends with the daughter of the Jones. I believe if you two become good friends, it will be easier to get Jacob Jones," Mrs. Wallner said as she fiddled with her bracelet.

"Do you think I'm interested in anyone who is not Sean? Please, mom, don't irritate me. I think you should leave my room.

"Carmen, why are you so dumb like your father?" Mrs. Wallner thought this inwardly. Here she was trying to secure a good future for her daughter, and she wasn't buying any of her brilliant ideas.

An idea flashed through her mind, making her smile. "You are so silly! You didn't let me finish. If you get together with Jacob Jones, don't you think that will make Sean Wilson jealous and cause him to realize his mistakes and come back to you?

"You're right, mom," Carmen exclaimed, wrapping her mother in a hug. "Thank you, Mom; you are the best," she said coquettishly.

"I hope you fall for him soon. Just leave the rest for me, my dear Carmen; Mom will find a way to fix your marriage with Jacob Jones," she said inwardly as she patted Carmen on the back.

...

At the Jones residence, the hall was beautifully decorated and adorned with freshly imported flowers from Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Jones wore a polite smile as guests kept trooping in and out of the manor with their adorable granddaughters in their arms.

Andrea, who was beautifully dressed in a nude-colored dress chosen by Mrs. Jones tonight, had a gloomy look as she lowered her gaze to her phone, searching for unanswered calls or messages from Sean, but couldn't find any.

Last night, Sean received a call from the manager of Wilson's airline in Florida. The manager informed him that the cooperative housing suddenly collapsed, and the staff were badly injured while trying to escape from the building. This incident was so significant that Sean flew to Florida last night, and he hasn't contacted her since.

She didn't know if she should be disappointed or worried about him. Andrea looked around her; everyone looked merry and happy on her joyous occasion, but she could barely keep up with her fake smiles.

As her gaze traveled around, she spotted a lady in a purple off-shoulder dress showing her well-sculpted collarbones; her hair was styled in a side-pleated bun. Andrea found her familiar from her side profile. She narrowed her eyes, trying to figure out who it was, when Tyler waved his hand in front of her.

"Hey birthday girl, Are you okay?" He asked, worriedly handing her a glass of red wine.

"Oh, thanks, and yes, I'm fine, Tyler. I hope you are having a good time at the  party."She asked with a smile.

"Sure, after all, it's your birthday. By the way, Jacob is searching for you upstairs. I think you should go to him."

Andrea nodded and instead walked straight towards the balcony to watch the beautiful night view of the Jones' residence quietly.

Suddenly, she heard the slow sounds of footsteps approaching her. "Jacob, I told you I'm fine. I just came here to get some fresh air. You go back in; I will join everyone in a bit," Andrea said without bothering to turn around to see who was behind her.

"Andrea!"

The familiar voice made her pause for a few nanoseconds before she swiftly turned around with misty eyes.
