Chapter 9: Chapter 9

The Aroma coming inside the room woke Vanessa up, she Looked around the room but it didn’t looked like the one she had been living in for years. She rolled her eyes, sitting down properly on the bed.

“ Oh, it’s Derek’s house” She looked at the Alarm clock on a table beside the bed and it was 7:03am.

“ Oh well, Nowhere to go” She sighed deeply and turned to Mara who was still sleeping soundly. She caressed her Smooth black hair smiling.

Vanessa Entered the bathroom, she brushed her teeth , washed her face and came out smiling.

“ I’ll continue with my work and start planning to leave This town again.” She said looking at Mara who was still sleeping.

The door opened slowly and Derek peeped through the door, Vanessa found that funny she wanted to laugh but held it back so as not to wake Mara up.

“ Are you up?” He paused when he saw Vanessa standing in front of the Mirror. “ Oh you’re Up, Good morning” Derek said entering the room. “ And Good morning to you too, Hope you slept well?” She asked him.

“ Yep, and you? Sorry the room is a little messy, I had no idea someone would be moving in” Derek said and Vanessa Smiled. “ It’s okay, I’ll work on it later” She Looked at Mara who just moved on the bed.

Mara opened her eyes slowly, she Yawned scanning the room with her eyes. Her eyes caught Derek who was standing beside Vanessa and she jumped in excitement.

“ Daddy!” Derek turned to her and Mara was Disappointed. “ Daddy?” Vanessa said surprisingly. “ I thought it’s My Daddy, I want to see him” Her Mouth twitched again ready to cry, Vanessa quickly went to her and hugged her.

“ Don’t cry baby, Mummy will find your Daddy very soon” She patted her on the back. “ But we found him already, I want to go live with my Daddy” Mara cried. “ Alright, I’ll take you to Him later, okay?” Mara nodded her head. “ Okay then stop crying or your face would get swollen” She cleaned the tears on her face and looked at Derek who was smiling.

“ I’m doomed” Vanessa whispered to him and he agreed with her. “ Anyways, Breakfast is ready. Come out now and eat, I don’t want to be late for Work” Derek went out of the room and Vanessa took Mara to the bathroom.

They Had their breakfast of Toasted bread and Tea, Derek left for work leaving Vanessa and Mara at home. Vanessa didn’t feel like a guest because she was used to visiting Derek when she had no work doing.

She sat on the Couch, watching a movie but her mind wasn’t in the movie. Vanessa couldn’t believe that she lost the flight, She had worked so hard for that moment but lost it.

“ what should I do now? I Have to start working again, I don’t want to be a liability to Derek” Vanessa sighed, she supported her head with her hands shaking it vigorously.

She was so lost in thought that she didn’t hear the Door opened and closed. Vanessa stood up from the couch After some minutes, The House has been so quiet and she wondered what Mara was doing inside.

“ Baby?” She called but got no response from Mara. “ What is this girl up to? I just hope she isn’t spoiling anything” Vanessa approached the room, she opened the door but Mara wasn’t there.

“ Where is she?” She closed the door after checking the bathroom too, she went to Derek’s room but Mara wasn’t there also. “ Where did she go?” Vanessa wondered.

She went to the kitchen too but Little Mara wasn’t there either. Vanessa became so alarmed, she didn’t want to lose Mara again and so she Hurried out of the house.

Vanessa opened the door, she called Mara’s name but got no response either. “ Where did she go?” Vanessa saw a familiar car parked a little distance from the house.

“ Isn’t that…. Oh where’s Mara?” She ignored the car and continued searching for Mara.

“ Mara! Baby!” She called looking around but didn’t see Mara.

“ Little Mara, come over here” Someone said as soon as Mara closed the door behind her. She turned around to see who it was , her face lit up in Excitement when she saw Alfred’s Assistant and she ran to him.

“ Is my Daddy here?” She asked The Assistant who was looking around the Estate to make sure no one was seeing them. He scoffed at her statement and shook his head Disappointedly.

He was so Disappointed that his Boss was falling in to the trap set by Vanessa and her daughter.

“ How could he? This little girl over here isn’t his daughter, I don’t know why he want to see her” He sighed and looked at Mara who was waiting for his response.

“ Your Daddy.. I mean my Boss wants to see you” He said and Mara jumped in excitement. “ He wants to see me? I knew it, please take me to my Daddy” Mara said happily.

Alfred had sent His Assistant to trail Vanessa the previous day, he got to know where Vanessa lived and Alfred planned with his Assistant to go bring Mara to him without Vanessa knowing.

He had been thinking about Mara ever since their encounter in the birthday party and he couldn’t take her out of his mind. He think there’s something odd about Mara because she looked like his little Niece.

“ My Mummy will want to go too” Mara said and he Chuckled. “ Why would I bring your mum along? Get Inside the car now!” He Shouted at her. Mara wanted to cry and so, the Assistant quickly apologized to her.

“ I’m sorry Don’t cry” He said and she nodded her head innocently. “ Stop shouting at kids, Mummy said it’s not Good” Mara said looking at the Assistant.
