Chapter 8: Chapter 8

“ You don’t have to, We won’t disturb you ever again I promise” Vanessa said apologetically. Alfred didn’t understand what she meant by that but he had no choice than to give Mara back to Vanessa not because he wanted to.

He watched as Vanessa left the store holding Mara so tightly as Mara was trying to break free. She wanted to go with Alfred and not Vanessa and so, she cried as her mum took her out of the store.

“ Sir, The meeting is in five minutes” His Assistant said to him and he sighed, Alfred was only starring at the Door Vanessa walked out of. An idea popped in to his head and he looked at His Assistant.

“ Follow her and find out where she lives” He said and without hesitating, His secretary made his way out of the store.

Vanessa had missed the flight, she wanted to cry but couldn’t because of Mara. She had longed and worked hard for that opportunity but she missed it and it was all thanks to Mara.

“ I shouldn’t have Fed her with lies” She said to Derek who was looking at her while trying to hold back his laughter. “ You’re not trying to laugh at me, are you?” Vanessa asked with a smirk.

“ Of course not, I’m just surprised on how everything turned out this way. I mean, you worked really hard for this” Derek said shaking his head. “ It’s all Her fault” She said biting her upper lip.

“ Who?” Derek asked and took a sip of the cup of juice he was holding. “ Tiana” Vanessa said Angrily. He nearly chocked on the juice inside his mouth.

“ Tiana, you mean your sister?” Derek asked and Vanessa scoffed. “ She’s not my sister, she’s a Traitor” She said In Anger. “ But what brings her in to this town?” Derek asked Surprisingly but Neither him nor Vanessa know why.

“ I don’t know what brought her in to this town, I don’t want to see her and I don’t care what she’s here to do. Tiana went as far as to call my little Mara a….” She looked at Mara who was sleeping soundly on the couch and lowered her voice.

“ She called my child a bastard, Can you just imagine? I mean, wasn’t she the one that set me up?” Vanessa’s voice broke as she said that, she hated to remember that awful day.

Derek sighed, he moved closer to Vanessa who was wiping the tears that dropped on her face, he handed her an Handkerchief and she sniffed in it.

“ Sorry, I can’t help it” She said Sadly. “ It’s okay, I know how you feel. Don’t let what she said get in to you, you’ve been Doing well without them so just live your life and take care of your beautiful Mara and your Business” Derek tapped her shoulder softly.

Vanessa nodded her head, she always Thanked the God for sending Derek to her because he was Always there to make her smile and Advice her.

“ Thank you Derek, you’re the best friend everyone could ask for” She said and he Smiled. “ I know, I’m handsome and Smart” She laughed at his statement and he also laughed. He won

“ But Vanessa, don’t you think it’s a Good thing That Tiana is in Town?” Derek asked Nodding his head. “ What do you mean by that?” she asked him and he Shifted closer to her and held her hand in his.

“ We should find her and ask her to tell us who Mara’s Dad is, She was the one that locked you up in that room with a stranger so she should know” Derek said.

Vanessa Nodded her head in Agreement but then she disagreed with him again, She was Happy living that way and didn’t want any trouble. She wasn’t interested in finding whoever Mara’s Dad was as she was also on the Verge of finding her own parents.

“ Maybe I’ll do that after I found my Real parents” She said and Derek sighed. “ But..” She put a finger on his lips. “ Don’t say anything about her again, I hate talking about that girl. I’ll just pretend I didn’t see her today” She stood up from the Couch and walked over to the fridge.

“ You don’t have any snacks here? I’m hungry” She said to Derek and he laughed. “ I don’t feed on junk” He answered her and Vanessa shook her head. “ Whatever”.

Vanessa had called Derek over the phone as soon as she discovered they had missed the flight, he told her to go over to his place and he would be there shortly.

Derek lived in a Two bedroom apartment so he didn’t mind sharing with Vanessa until she find another place or when she want to leave the town again..

Vanessa couldn’t go back to her previous home because her rent had been exhausted already and she had submitted the keys to the landlord. She was so glad that Derek was always there for her and she couldn’t ask for more.

After they had dinner, She took Mara to the room Derek shoed her to sleep in. Vanessa put Mara down carefully on the bed and covered her with a blanket.

“ I’m so sorry Baby, I’ll make it up to you” She kissed her on the forehead and stood up to go take a shower but before she could stand properly, she heard Mara talking in her dream.

“ Baby, are you talking to me?” Vanessa asked leaning closer to Mara to hear what she was saying.

“ Daddy, I love you Daddy” Mara said faintly, Vanessa was taken Aback. She stared at Mara who was smiling Happily in her sleep, She blamed herself for everything.

“ Oh Vanessa, what have you done! I Just hope this girl shouldn’t cause any trouble for me” Vanessa held her head.
