Chapter 36: Chapter 36

“ you are smiling” Mara said. “ Yes Baby, Uncle Derek gave me the money I want” She said Happily. “ Really? Wow! I’ll tell my Daddy to reward uncle Derek for making my Mummy Happy” Mara said and Vanessa Chuckled. “ We’ll be traveling tomorrow and don’t ask me where we are going” Vanessa said. “ Why?” Mara raised a brow. “ Because it’s a surprise and I’m sure you will love it” Mara smiled, she threw a chip in her mouth and crunched it.

All through the night, Vanessa couldn’t sleep. She was so excited that she was finally leaving the City for Good and would never return again. She was also happy that they were finally free from Alfred and his Assistant.

“ Dream come true” She said happily looking at Mara who was sleeping soundly.

As early as 6:30am, Vanessa and Mara were already ready to leave the city. Derek helped them loaded their loads in the trunk and entered the front while Vanessa and Mara sat on the back. He insisted on escorting them to the airport because it was Saturday and there’s no work. They chatted happily on their way to the Airport and Vanessa was the happiest.

“ I’ll call you when the plane land” Vanessa said to Derek as she waited for her flight to take off. Her flight was scheduled to take off by 8:20 am and she got to the airport earlier. When it was 7:30, Derek left leaving Vanessa and Mara in the airport. 8:20, Vanessa waited for the announcement of their plane but it never came. Minutes passed by and she stood up to go ask to know if the flight would be delayed. Immediately she stood up, she saw Alfred running towards her. Her heart started racing fast, she wished she could grow wings and fly away with Mara.

“ I found you!” Alfred hugged her in front of all the people present there. Some of them brought out their cameras and started capturing them as they were so shocked to see the president of GI conglomerate hugging a lady in public. “ Daddy!!” Mara screamed and that caught the attention of everyone there. He Released Vanessa and carried Mara off her feet. “ Baby, I missed you so much” He hugged her. “ I missed you too Daddy” Mara said happily.

Vanessa was shocked, She couldn’t say a word and Alfred grabbed her hand. His men carried Vanessa’s luggage and he dragged her out of the airport.

“ What do you think you are doing?” Vanessa asked releasing her hand from his. “ Let’s go Home please” Alfred pleaded. “ I’ll miss my flight” Vanessa said and he grabbed her hand again. “ No plane will move Today again” Alfred said and her heart skipped. “ What do you mean? I already paid for the flight” Vanessa said looking so frustrated. “ I’ll pay you whatever you paid but please do not leave me” She was so Shocked by his last statement. She watched as he put Mara inside the car and turned to her. “ Please enter” Vanessa entered the car and he closed the door.

Minutes After Derek and Vanessa had left for the airport, Alfred and his Assistant Entered the estate. They saw some women and their kids jogging down the street and The Assistant asked the about Vanessa and Derek. They told them they didn’t know where they were but they might return any time soon. Alfred leaned on the car waiting for them to return and minutes passed by.

Just as they were about to go away, Derek returned. He didn’t want to tell them where Vanessa was but Alfred pleaded with him and he told him everything. Alfred and his Assistant Entered the car and rice out of the Estate, he gave a call to the airport and demanded all the flights that day to be canceled. Alfred has a share in the company and so, they abide because they wouldn’t want him to ceased been their shareholder.

He took them to his house and had their luggage taken to one of the Rooms upstairs. Vanessa sat on the sofa, she didn’t know what to do again as she looked at Mara and Alfred played beside her.

“ Mummy, is this the surprise you said? I love this surprise” Mara said and Alfred smiled. “ Mummy wanted to surprise you?” He asked. “ Yes, she said we’ll be traveling and it’s a surprise” He looked at Vanessa who was holding her head in her palms. “ I’m Sorry” He whispered to her. Vanessa stood up from the sofa, She went upstairs and locked herself in the room where her luggage was.

“ What is the meaning of this!!” She threw herself on the floor and burst in to tears. “ What does he want from me? I only want to find my parents but he won’t let me go!” She cried. “ Why would he even come to our life now that I don’t need him” Vanessa cried and cried until she fell asleep on the floor.

An hour later, Vanessa didn’t come out of the room. Alfred would look up any moment to see if she would come down but she didn’t. He calls Bella who was cleaning the Television and told her to go check on Vanessa. Bella went up the stairs, she turned the door handle but the door didn’t open. She knocked but Vanessa didn’t open the door and so, she went back to the sitting room.

“ Where is she?” Alfred asked. “ She locked the Door” Bella said and Alfred told her to go. He looked at Mara who was playing with her toys and stood up from the sofa, he went to his room and opened the drawer where he has extra keys. He picked one that could open the door of the room Vanessa was and he went out of his room.

Alfred put the key and unlocked the door, he found Vanessa sleeping on the floor and he smiled.
