Chapter 22: Chapter 22
“ The Food is ready” He said still laughing. “ Hey stop laughing, you also know Mara so much” She said cleaning her wet hairs with a towel. Just then, Mara woke up, she started crying when she saw Derek and Vanessa.
“ What?” Vanessa asked with a smirk. “ Daddy!” Mara cried. “ Take me back to Daddy” She said looking at Vanessa who was cleaning her hairs. “ He’s not your Daddy, stop saying that” Vanessa said but Mara wouldn’t.
“ Little Mara, stop crying” Derek said and Mara increased her cry. “ Take me back to Daddy!” She Screamed. “ Keep shut!” Vanessa yelled at her and Mara stopped crying. “ What’s wrong with you? Who told you he’s your Daddy?” Vanessa said in Anger.
She has had enough of all that, How could her life changed in just few days?. Mara was scared, her mum had never shouted at her before and so she ran to Derek and hugged him.
“ It’s okay baby, let’s go” Derek carried her out of the room. Vanessa sat on the bed, she supported her head with her palms. “ What!!” She stamped her feet on the ground.
Derek took Mara to the dining table, he tried to feed her but Mara wouldn’t eat anything and she just cried. Vanessa came out of the room tying a towel on her head, she sat down on the chair beside Mara and touched her head.
“ Stop crying baby, Mummy is so sorry” Vanessa apologized for shouting at her earlier. “ Do you want mummy to be Happy?” She asked and Mara nodded her head. “ Then stop talking about him and stop calling him Daddy. He’s not your Daddy” She said. “ But he….” Vanessa interrupted her.
“ Promise?” She asked and Mara nodded her head “ Good girl, now eat” Mara started eating .

It has been 2 days already since Kara left the house. Alfred hadn’t been himself from that day on, he spoke to no one and he didn’t go to work. He has even missed the meetings and has turned down the Appointments from the companies that wanted to partner with him.
“ What’s happening to me?” He asked as he lay face up on the bed. He couldn’t believe little Mara would changed his life so easily, he loved her and he wanted to be with her. There’s this feeling he always had whenever he was with her.
“ What should I do? I really missed her” He sighed, he looked at the side of bed which Mara Always slept on. “ I missed you so much Baby”.
As if from above, he heard the sound of his oh be vibrating beside him. He picked up the phone and quickly sat upright when he saw the name that appeared on the screen.
“ Hello!” He said and the other person answered. “ I’ve been trying to reach out to you for days now but something came up. Did you find the culprit?” He asked and his expression changed when he got the answer from the caller. “ Alright, I’ll clear some of my schedule and meet with you very soon” He said and ended the call.
Alfred sighed, he had been waiting for that call everyday but he forgot about it since he met Mara. His eyes went to the screen of his phone and he discovered he had missed many calls.
“ Who could that be?” He picked up his phone and checked the caller. “ Oh No it’s Grandma” He Quickly dialed her number but she didn’t answer the call. “ She might be busy” He said standing up from the bed.
“ I’ll Go visit her today” He dropped the phone on the bed and made his way to the bathroom.
The Assistant and Bella were both in the sitting room gossiping about their Boss who had refused to go out for Two days.
“ The Boss really missed Mara” Bella said sadly. The Assistant puffed, He sat down on the sofa and crossed his leg. “ I’m glad that she’s gone, I don’t like that girl” The Assistant blurted. “ Hey watch your mouth, what if the Boss heard you?” Bella asked.
“ But why don’t you like the girl? She’s so pretty and lovely” Said Bella, cleaning the Table. “ I know she’s pretty and lovely but, she might make me lose my job if she continue living here with the Boss” The Assistant said and Bella Chuckled.
“ She’ll definitely come back to this house, it’s her Daddy’s house and there’s nothing you can do about that” Bella said to the Assistant. “ Who told you she’s his child?” He asked her. “ She called him Daddy and he looks happy whenever she called him that” Bella said dipping the towel in a bowl of water.
“ Quit dreaming, Bella. Mara is just those kids that calls people who are rich their Dad when they don’t have Dad” Bella laughed at his statement. “ She’s his child and I can prove it” She said.
The Assistant raised his brow, he didn’t know why Bella was so confident that she could prove it. He leaned closer to the edge of the sofa and Chuckled
“ How can you prove it?’ He asked. She dropped the towel inside the water and stood up. “ Follow me” The Assistant followed Her out of the sitting room. She took him to the maid's Quarters and locked the door as soon as they Entered the room.
“ Why did you locked the Door?” He asked smiling in a mischievous way. Bella Scoffed, she unzipped her Bag and brought out pieces of papers. “ Before you embarrassed yourself further, I only want to show you something” She said Putting the papers on the bed.
“ Then why did you locked it?” He asked again. “ Look here Mr. Man, I did that because I don’t want Mary to come in and see it. You know how she talks” Bella said.
