Chapter 13: Chapter 13
A maid Entered the kitchen holding a mop bucket, She put down the bucket and leaned her back on the door. She looked at Bella Who was toasting the bread and signaled to her, Bella got her message and she Chuckled.
She continued what she was doing not wanting to do what the other maid wanted her to do. The maid seeing that Bella won’t do that, Walked closer to where Mara was sitting on the Table. She touched Mara's face Smiling.
“ You are so beautiful” She said to Mara and Mara nodded her head. “ Yes I know” She said. The maid giggled, Mara looked so cute as she spoke and also smart.
“ Can I ask little Mara a question?” The maid asked and Bella turned around. She signaled to her to stop bug she Looked away. “ Yes, Mara will answer if she know” She took another bite again.
“ What are you with the Boss?” She asked. “ He’s my Daddy” Mara answered and Bella dropped the spoon she was holding.
“ Your Daddy, you mean the Boss is your Daddy?” The maid asked and Marfa nodded her head. “ Yes he is. Mummy said he’s my Daddy and he’s so handsome” Mara Smiled at them and continued eating.
The maid moved closer to Bella who looked so surprised and touched her on the shoulder.
“ The Boss is her Daddy? What da!” Bella exclaimed. “ See? I thought so. But when did the Boss got married? He don’t even have a girlfriend” The maid said.
“ This is surprising, wow” They looked at Mara again and then at each other. “ Wow! Just wow!” They we’re still talking when the Door opened and The Assistant interrupted them.
“ What are you two doing? Gossiping right?” He asked them and Bella Chuckled. “ Nope, what do you want here?” She asked him. “ Nothing, I just came to see if you are doing what you guys like to do the most and….” The other maid interrupted him.
“ And what?” She asked. “ And my guess is Correct, you girls like gossiping” He said looking at them. He didn’t know that Mara was in the kitchen as he was only looking at the maids.
“ Hi” Mara waved to him, he nearly fell on the floor because he was so startled. “ What da! What are you doing here?” He looked at Bella “ what is she doing here?” He asked Them confusingly.
“ The Boss said to feed her” Bella answered. “ Yes, Daddy said She should feed me and guess what? She’s a Good Cook” She said to the Assistant.
“ And what exactly are you doing on the Table? There are Chairs here, get down from there” He said but Mara ignored him. “ Hey, do you even know what you are doing? Stop bullying the little kid” Bella said.
“ Do you want to lose your job?” The other maid chipped in. “ And who told you I’m going to lose my job? This girl here is a bunch of trouble, She claimed the Boss is her Dad while he doesn’t even go near any girl” He said pointing at Mara.
“ Hey, he’s my Dad and stop pointing your fingers at me” Mara said Angrily. “ Wait a minute, Mara said the Boss is her Dad but you said he isn’t. Why?” The other maid asked.
“ Of course she’s not, The Boss isn’t her Dad” He repeated. “ He’s my Dad, stop bullying me” Mara took another bite again. “ He’s not” The Assistant argued. Just then, The door opened and Alfred walked in.
“ What are you talking about? I can hear your voices from the sitting room” Bella pretended as if she didn’t say anything earlier and the other maid took the Mop bucket and quickly left the kitchen.
“ What are you doing in the kitchen?” He asked his Assistant. “ I…I just..” He looked at Mara who was starring at him Mischievously. “ I came to check on little Mara” He lied. “ Are you sure you like the toasted bread?” He asked smiling at Mara.
“ Yes I already told you” Mara said pointing the bread at him. “ That’s so Good” Alfred Chuckled at his sudden change of behavior, He moved closer to Mara and carried her out of the kitchen.
“ What?” The Assistant asked Bella who was staring at him Disgustingly. “ You Should be ashamed of yourself, you were just bullying the little girl now” She said. “ Whatever” He picked up a toast from the plate and left the kitchen.

An hour later, Vanessa was seen entering the Police station. She looked so frustrated and there were bags under her eyes, she didn’t blink an eye all through the night and behind her was Derek.
“ I told you to go to work” She said to Derek immediately they sat on the chairs in the waiting area. “ I made a call to the office” He said and Vanessa sighed. “ Thanks Derek” She tried to smile but tears dropped instead.
“ Vanessa, it’s okay with the cry” Derek moved closer to her and patted her on the back softly. “ I can’t help it Derek, I can’t” Vanessa sobbed.
Few minutes later, a police approached them and they stood upright.
“ Any news about her?” Derek asked. The police officer sighed, he put his hands in his pocket and sighed. “ We are still looking for her, we heard a missing girl was found by an old woman and our men are already there to take a look.” The officer said.
“ Where is that? I’ll go” Vanessa said and as the officer was about to talk, the police arrived. “ Is it Mara?” He asked them and they shook their heads. “ No sir, it was another child and her parents had took her home already” Vanessa broke down in tears and sat on the floor.
