Chapter 40: Chapter 40
Wennie Lane didn’t answer me, and she went out with her phone. Soon, she returned with a young beauty.
The young beauty was dressed in custom JK attire, full of youthful energy and sweet charm.
Her makeup was exquisite, much like a Barbie doll.
At first glance, I was puzzled—how did Wennie Lane know such a trendy young girl who looked like a high school student?
But when I stared at her face for a couple more seconds, I was suddenly shocked!
This young girl was the one who drove me home in a Porsche as a ride-share driver outside the hospital a while ago!
"Lily Miller, this cute girl here is Melissa Chandler. Remember the wedding incident that went viral online? I told you I’d find someone to help, and later, by chance, I met Melissa. She’s well-acquainted with the platform executives, and with a word, the matter was resolved."
As Wennie Lane introduced her, she led Melissa Chandler over to us.
"Originally, after resolving the issue, I said I would treat Melissa to a meal and planned to ask you to join. But Melissa had an overseas performance and just returned yesterday. I thought since we were gathering today anyway, we could all hang out and get to know each other."
"Come on, let’s have fun together!"
Nora Saunders and the others immediately invited everyone to introduce themselves in turns.
As I looked at the new friend by the sofa, I stood up and smiled, "What a coincidence, I never thought we’d meet again."
Wennie Lane’s eyes widened, glancing back and forth between me and Melissa, puzzled, "You two know each other?!"
Before I could answer, Melissa flashed a cheeky smile, "I was going through a rough patch and ended up driving a ride-share; coincidentally, I picked up Ms. Miller. She’s so beautiful, she left a deep impression!"
"No way... You hit rock bottom to drive a ride-share? I think you did it on purpose to experience life," Wennie Lane doubted her words.
Honestly, I doubted it too.
Thinking over the sequence of events, I reckoned that Ms. Melissa might have seen me online before.
So when she recognized me at the hospital entrance that day, perhaps out of curiosity or for fun, she decided on a whim to act as a ride-share driver for me.
"This is fate, destined by heaven! Come, let’s have a drink, we’re sisters from now on." Wennie Lane, a real social butterfly, shouted and everyone raised their glasses, filled with enthusiasm.
But Melissa shook her hand, "Ms. Wennie, Ms. Miller, I can’t drink, or my brother would kill me!"
"Your brother is that strict with you?"
"Yes!" Melissa nodded, raising a glass of juice, "I can only drink this, or if I anger my brother, he’ll cut off my financial support, and I’ll be driving ride-shares again."
Whether there was truth in her words, it was hard to tell.
But since she said so, we didn’t push her.
"Okay, just drink juice then."
Everything about Melissa Chandler showed grace and confidence, the aura of someone from a wealthy family.
And her ease in taking down a trending topic and diverting attention with multiple new ones confirmed her impressive family background.
Nora Saunders and the group soon hit it off with her, exchanging WeChat contacts.
After some lively hours, Wennie Lane checked the time and clapped her hands to attract everyone’s attention, "Ladies, today’s event star is Lily Miller—come on, let’s start!"
I was startled and looked at Wennie Lane, "Why... why am I the main character?"
"You’ve been so busy that you forgot the date, right?"
"Tomorrow is your birthday, turning twenty-six! Monday, everyone is busy, so we’re celebrating early tonight!"
"Come on, let’s crank it up!"
I hadn’t even reacted when the girls had already circled around me.
They placed a sash typically worn by a greeter on me that read—The Queen is Me!
They also pulled up a banner on the wall behind me.
As I looked back, there was but one thought—social death right here.
"Fallhaven has thousands of beauties, Eldest Miss Miller is NO.1!"
"Debuting for twenty-six years, still in the prime of youth!"
It seemed my girlfriends had meticulously planned for this day in advance.
Wennie Lane, holding her phone to record me, hurriedly stopped me when I reached to take off the sash, "No taking it off! You have to wear it all night!"
Nora Saunders and Rachel Boone each held my hands, laughing uncontrollably.
"We have new friends today, don’t scare them," I kindly reminded.
Melissa Chandler waved her hands, also holding her phone to record while laughing heartily, "Ms. Miller, don’t mind me, this is great!"
It seemed birds of a feather flock together; this sweet-looking girl was quite the lively one too.
"Lily Miller, don’t say we sisters don’t have your back! Knowing you’ve had a tough time lately, I spent a fortune and put in great effort to plan tonight’s birthday party! I guarantee you’ll be thrilled!" Wennie Lane, recording the video, declared smilingly.
For some reason, I had the feeling a bigger surprise was in store.
Sure enough, just as Wennie’s words trailed off, the door to the room was knocked.
She smiled even more broadly, "The surprise is here! Get ready—"
Without finishing the sentence, she held her phone with one hand and opened the door with the other.

Two party poppers exploded, filling the room with vibrant colors, the air filled with shimmering confetti ribbons.
Startled, I shrank my neck, not understanding what was happening until Nora and others started screaming excitedly.
I looked closely, seeing a line of five or six handsome guys stream in.
The first guy, holding a bouquet, stepped forward and handed it to me.
The second guy, with both hands, adorned me with a garland around my neck.
The third guy, holding a crown of small diamonds, took off the birthday hat and placed it on my head.
The fourth guy, a guitar slung across his chest, strumming and singing a birthday blessing song.
The fifth guy, doing magic, had been holding a cane, which with a swift flick turned into a graceful white veil and draped it over my head.
The sixth and last guy pushed a small cart, atop which sat a beautifully designed large cake.
Throughout the whole process, I felt like an emperor from ancient times selecting concubines, overwhelmed but giggling stupidly.
So were Wennie Lane and them, nearly uproarious with their excited shrieks.
Only then did I realize why they first draped a "The Queen is Me" sash on me.
These male companions were all here to serve me tonight!
I had to admit, this birthday party was truly singular and dear to my heart!
"Lily Miller, take a look! These young brothers, each over six feet, full of vitality and energy, which one isn’t better than that scumbag Gu? Choose as you like today, I guarantee you’ll be satisfied!" Wennie Lane showcased them to me like they were products.
Then, these handsome guys with different styles each introduced themselves.
Though I prided myself on a keen mind, I couldn’t remember them all—Oliver, Jun, Wei...
Ah, suddenly I felt the joy of ancient nobles.
The atmosphere grew more and more lively, the table crammed with delicious food and fine wine, glasses clinking, and the room filled with passionate singing and dancing, casting rich colors and fragrances.
I was busy "favoring" these handsome and sweet-speaking young lads and thanking the friends who celebrated my birthday, ultimately unclear how much I drank.
As I was about to cut the birthday cake, Wennie Lane lifted her hand to stop me, "Wait, there’s still someone who hasn’t arrived..."
Even Roedd Wennie Lane had drunk a bit too much and was speaking a bit slurred.
I grasped the cake-cutting knife and, puzzled, asked, "Who else?"
Just as I spoke, there was a knock on the door to the room.
Wennie Lane gestured to the guy nearest the door to open it.
