Chapter 363: Chapter 363
At five o’clock that afternoon, Song Yansheng got off work on time.
He went to the Song Family Mansion to pick up Shi Nuan.
Naturally, since they were there, they couldn’t just leave immediately after picking her up.
The two of them only left after having dinner. Yu Yao wanted them to stay, but seeing her son’s slightly knitted brows, she sensed his thoughts and said no more.
Around nine in the evening, Song Yansheng took Shi Nuan back to the Song Mansion.
On the way, Song Yansheng didn’t say much. Shi Nuan’s gaze remained fixed on the outside, seemingly fascinated by the city’s distant lights.
The light inside the car was dim, and the girl’s face was partially hidden, with a touch of serene gentleness amidst her beauty.
Song Yansheng remembered the first time he saw Shi Nuan. She wore two little pigtails, always smiling with crescent eyes, looking warm and lovely, especially endearing.
But now, Shi Nuan seldom laughed. At least in the past two months, he hadn’t seen her laugh heartily even once.
Song Yansheng reached for his brow, feeling a bit of pain there.
Shi Nuan caught this scene unintentionally from the car window reflection and was a bit surprised.
She turned her head and gently asked, "Second Uncle, what’s wrong?"
Song Yansheng shook his head and gave Shi Nuan a gentle smile, saying, "It’s nothing, maybe I’m just a bit tired!"
Shi Nuan replied with an "oh" and said, "Then, Second Uncle, why don’t you close your eyes and rest for a bit? I’ll wake you once we’re home."
Her tone was both inquiring and suggesting.
Song Yansheng rubbed his brow again, nodded lightly, and said, "Okay!"
Shi Nuan said, "Then, Second Uncle, you should sleep now!"
Just as these words fell, a cool finger suddenly wrapped around her hand.
Shi Nuan was startled for a moment, then felt those broad fingers slowly intertwining with hers and gradually tightening their grip.
On Shi Nuan’s left ring finger, there was a ring, a very modest band.
Song Yansheng’s left hand had one as well.
The two hands clasped tightly , the fingertips cool, but the palms warm.
Shi Nuan fluttered her lashes without speaking, then felt a weight on her shoulder.
She sat there, suddenly not daring to move, for Song Yansheng had leaned his head on her shoulder and closed his eyes.
The driver in front glanced at the rearview mirror, then continued driving with an impassive face.
Shi Nuan’s heartbeat quickened, and even her breath felt a bit obstructed. She softly called, "Second Uncle..."
"I’m asleep..." A warm breath tickled her chin, making it itch.
Song Yansheng said, "When we’re home, Nuannuan, you call me..."
The voice was light, gentle, even... fragile!
Her heart inexplicably trembled, a strange emotion swirling in her mind.
Yet, before she could fathom what this emotion was, she had quietly replied with a single word: "Okay!"
Song Yansheng did fall asleep, and within minutes, his breathing became even.
However, the strength with which he held her fingers did not lessen at all.
Later, when the car arrived at the Song Mansion, the driver got out to open the door but was stopped by Shi Nuan waving her hand.
Aunt Hui came with a group of servants to welcome them, and upon seeing the scene, stood outside without daring to move.
Eventually, the driver exchanged a glance with Aunt Hui, who understood and led the servants away.
The driver soon left as well.
Inside the car, Song Yansheng remained leaning against Shi Nuan’s shoulder, with the surroundings very quiet, only their light breathing audible.
Shi Nuan felt the warmth of the man’s palm, and her heart rate never slowed down throughout the journey.
She pressed her lips together, subconsciously gripping Song Yansheng’s hand in return, and couldn’t help but smile at the corners of her mouth.
Then she slightly tilted her head, resting it against Song Yansheng’s head, and closed her eyes.
