Chapter 92: Chapter 92

"Conrad, what are you up to?"

When President Sterling received this WeChat message from Anna Thornton, he was working in his study.

He replied with one word: "Busy!"

"Did you see my promotional post on Moments? The variety show I recorded a few days ago is now airing hot!"

Conrad knew Anna wanted him to watch her show, but he deliberately asked, "So what?"

"You were there at the show too, you might have been caught on camera as a lucky audience member, don’t you want to check it out?"

Alright, once again, President Sterling ended the conversation without realizing it.

After sending this message, he waited for five minutes but received no reply from Anna.

Conrad couldn’t help picking up his phone again, scrolling through Anna’s Moments.

This little woman really loves selfies. Since Conrad only had two friends, Anna and Ethan, and the latter and he himself didn’t post often, his feed was just filled with Anna’s 360-degree selfies in all kinds of poses, documenting and sharing every trivial part of her life.

The latest post was Anna in a hospital room posing in front of a TV, making a peace sign next to her first appearance on a variety show.

The caption read: "First time on a variety show, a bit nervous, need support! (with three cute emoticons afterwards)"

Does she even get nervous?

Conrad was at the recording site of the variety show, he didn’t notice it.

However, just as his eyes started to strain from staring at the computer, Conrad put down his phone, planning to get up and take a break.

President Sterling’s bedroom and study didn’t have TVs because he didn’t need them.

Only the downstairs hall had a gigantic TV wall installed symbolically during renovation.

Conrad sat on the sofa downstairs for a while, casually picked up the remote, and turned on the TV.

After flipping through just two channels, he happened to see Anna’s variety show.

"Hey, isn’t that Miss Thornton?" Granny Chandler happened to be passing by the hall and, seeing Anna on TV, couldn’t help but comment, "Wow, who knew she’s so skilled, those dumplings she made are as beautiful as she is."

Hearing Granny Chandler’s compliment behind him, Conrad’s lips curled into a cold smile.

Anna, that little woman, really knew how to captivate people, especially middle-aged elders like Granny Chandler and Aunt Murray. Not only was she pretty and efficient at work, but also cheerful and good with kids. Pop’s obedience gave people the mistaken impression that Anna was virtuous and pure.

But in reality, the real Anna was worlds apart from the virtues she displayed before the elders.

With the intention of enlightening Granny Chandler, Conrad didn’t change the channel.

When the show played the part where Anna prepared a dish called ’Perverted Cucumber’, the moment the name was mentioned, a soft chuckle came from behind him.

Turning back, Conrad found that the number of maids in the living room had gradually increased without him noticing.

Especially behind him, five maids were mopping back and forth, while two or three more were wiping the same vase. Whether they usually cleaned at this time, Conrad wasn’t sure, since he was usually in his study upstairs.

It wasn’t until today that Conrad realized that even though he owned a spacious hall, it suddenly felt a bit crowded.

Especially when the show reached the tasting segment, a male guest took a bite of Anna’s dumplings, frowned, and spit it out.

Then, the male host tried the ’Perverted Cucumber’, and he spit it out too...

The maids, who were watching secretly while pretending to clean, had never seen such a comically straightforward food show, and a few almost couldn’t contain their laughs from bubbling up.

However, under President Sterling’s gaze, everyone immediately returned to act serious. Those mopping continued, those wiping resumed, trying to collectively create the cleanest area in the whole building tonight—right there, in front of the TV wall, behind Conrad.

Those who really wanted to laugh could only bow their heads and work harder, focusing on their toes, biting their lips fiercely to hold it in, pretending nothing happened, enduring with difficulty.

When Conrad put down the remote and returned to his study upstairs, shutting the door, only then did the hall dare to let out a few chuckles and discussions.

"That Miss Thornton President Sterling brought home before, she’s actually on a variety show."

"She’s a celebrity to begin with! What’s the show’s name? I didn’t dare watch carefully just now, want to catch the rerun later."

"It’s called ’Food and Love’. This show wasn’t that interesting before, but this episode was really funny."

You have to admit, Anna is actually quite suited for variety shows.

Conrad, not being the most entertainment-enthused person, didn’t have much to say, but from others’ reactions, it was clear that Anna’s personality was open and full of shticks for the show.

Who would’ve thought that in a food show so mediocre that even the clichés lacked novelty, relying ten years on the basic cucumber joke, all the humor in this episode would depend on a star originally known for being sexy and charming?

When Anna saw the segment where the male guests spat out the food right in front of the TV in the hospital, she felt a little surprised herself.

The show dared to so bluntly display Young Master Hawthorne’s double gagging incident to the public, aren’t they afraid he’ll demand an explanation?

Though unsure why the show did this, presenting the final tasting segment exactly as it happened was actually beneficial to Anna.

Sure enough, Mary soon came running back from outside.

"Anna! Anna..." She shouted Anna Thornton’s name excitedly three times before even entering the room, "Anna, wasn’t this episode awesome?! Why didn’t you tell me?"

"Didn’t you say you wouldn’t watch it? Plus, they aired both instances of Ethan Hawthorne and Jay Cross gagging. Now everyone who’s seen the show knows how awful my cooking is."

"I know that, but that’s not the point."

Although Mary ran off and didn’t watch the show, she was secretly following the reactions online. Dıscover more novels at novel•fire.net

Eventually, when the show was halfway over, viewers’ perceptions of Anna started to shift.

Initially, it was comments like [Anna Thornton and Ethan Hawthorne are one and the same], [Anna Thornton and Ethan Hawthorne, get out of the entertainment industry together]...

But later, it turned into [Wow! Anna Thornton... is she stirring things up?], [Anna Thornton is awesome!] and so on, expressing surprise without any negative emotions, even with a touch of admiration in the tone.

Mary was particularly eager to know just what happened?
