Chapter 311: Chapter 311
Granny Chandler rarely visits Conrad Sterling’s company; she is only President Sterling’s household nanny, responsible for cleaning and living affairs within the Sterling Residence.
Her visit this time is out of necessity.
Sterling Group’s employees see a robust old lady holding the hands of two little babies with tiger and duck backpacks, heading straight towards the meeting room door.
"Granny Chandler?" Ethan is the first to recognize her.
"Could you please inform President Sterling for me?"
These days, President Sterling is in an extremely bad mood, and no one in the company dares to persuade him otherwise.
Ethan thinks maybe Granny Chandler’s words might help, so he gathers his courage to go into the meeting room and convey the message.
Initially, Conrad Sterling plans to ignore whoever has come, but upon hearing Granny Chandler brought Pop and Lola to the company,
the man has no choice but to stand up and announce a pause in the meeting.
Granny Chandler takes the two kids to wait in Conrad Sterling’s office first, and as President Sterling comes in, he initially sees a pile of newly received documents on his desk.
He immediately lashes out angrily: "Who piled these documents here?" ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ ⓝovelFire.net
"President Sterling, the secretary just came in and said..."
"Fire her!" Conrad Sterling doesn’t listen to explanations.
His command is so assertive that no one dares to question it, and seeing that this stack of mail has put him in a bad mood, Ethan quickly steps in to tidy up and take it away.
Conrad Sterling turns his head aside but calls out to Ethan before he carries out the mail: "Have you categorized these mails?"
"Yes, President Sterling."
"Any mail from Veridia?"
"Don’t let any mail of any form be delivered to me during this period."
When Ethan heads out carrying a stack of documents, he tilts his head with curiosity.
Why did it seem like President Sterling looked relieved when he heard there was no mail from Veridia?
Veridia? Miss Anna has been filming there recently; is President Sterling afraid of receiving mail from her?
That’s even stranger!
What on earth could President Sterling be afraid of? Miss Anna, why would she need to send mail when the internet isn’t convenient now?
Could it be... the divorce agreement?
Ethan is just irresponsibly speculating, but the thought frightens him into a sweat.
Not likely, don’t let it be true!
If there really comes a day when Miss Anna sends President Sterling a divorce agreement, it would be the end for all of us here.
After Ethan leaves the office, Conrad Sterling finally looks at Granny Chandler and asks, "Who told you to bring them to the company?"
"President Sterling, you haven’t returned home for three days since you got back. The two kids miss you very much and are worried about you. Today, Pop asked me, Grandma Chandler, does Daddy not like me and my brother anymore? I don’t know how to answer her."
In front of President Sterling, Granny Chandler is after all a servant, and she speaks without much confidence, only able to appeal emotionally and logically:"These two kids are pitiful, having grown up without their father’s presence, so their thoughts are more sensitive than other children. Pop now doesn’t watch cartoons every night; instead, she crouches by the window and waits for Daddy to drive home. Unfortunately, she can’t wait at night, and during the day, the two kids are all alone. Pop doesn’t eat as sweetly as before, look how much thinner her little face has gotten. If Miss Thornton sees this when she returns, she would be very distressed!"
As she finishes, Granny Chandler lets go, allowing Pop to walk in front of Conrad Sterling. The little darling demonstrates what it means to ’wait longingly.’ Her clear black eyes stare at Conrad Sterling, her chubby hand gently rests on Daddy’s hand, her small pouting mouth resembles her mommy’s.
Conrad Sterling’s heart softens, he gently picks up his daughter and places her on his lap, wanting to grab something to entertain the little darling.
But looking around, his desk has nothing but documents.
Fortunately, Ethan is already on the same page and starts preparing.
"President Sterling, you see Pop is still closer to you, why not let them play here for a while?" Granny Chandler seizes the opportunity to say.
"I know, you can go back now!"
Granny Chandler leaves the office, and Ethan happens to come in with toys he collected urgently.
"President Sterling, what about the meeting?"
"Dismiss it for now."
With this good news, all Sterling Group employees, having narrowly escaped the brink of desk deaths, looked at Granny Chandler with admiration similar to a legendary monk from the Martial Temple.
Thinking: Who is this old lady?
Who are the two kids she brought?
They can unexpectedly make President Sterling, who disregards familial ties in anger, relent?
Granny Chandler thinks very thoroughly, as long as the two little darlings are placed here, there is no fear he won’t eat meals and rest on time.
Even if President Sterling doesn’t eat, he can’t possibly starve his children, right?
Conrad Sterling knows her intention but still gives his consent.
After Granny Chandler leaves, Conrad Sterling instructs Ethan to order some meals.
One business meal, two children’s meals.
He doesn’t feel hungry after consecutive meetings, mainly focuses on feeding the kids.
After Pop finishes her fish dumplings and colorful mashed potatoes, she eyes Lola’s bowl.
Lola loves her sister; each little darling has a set portion of three fish dumplings.
He hasn’t touched his bowl because seeing Pop likes to eat, he stretches his neck over.
Lola scoops some with a spoon, blows on it, and sends it into her mouth.
This isn’t enough; after eating from her brother’s bowl, Pop starts eyeing Conrad Sterling’s bowl.
Taking advantage of Daddy not paying attention, she secretly picks the corner of his uneaten chive box, quickly putting it in her mouth.
Grabs another piece...
Conrad Sterling pretends not to see, he signals Ethan with his eyes.
Telling him to clean up the table quickly; cold oily food can upset the stomach if eaten.
Looking eagerly as Daddy’s leftovers are taken away, Pop rummages for snacks that Ethan brought along with toys earlier.
Overall, the little one’s mouth doesn’t stop for a moment.
How can such a tiny person have such a big appetite?
Conrad Sterling looks at Pop’s increasingly chubby little face, he doesn’t see her thinning.
Especially doesn’t notice the two little darlings missing him to the point of being unable to eat.
Granny Chandler really is good at speaking untruths with her eyes open.
However, Conrad Sterling reconciles himself!
Even if Anna Thornton sentences him to death, there are still these two kids.
They are the bond between Conrad Sterling and Anna Thornton, unbreakable!
"So I’m not entirely out of chances!" President Sterling thought.
After eating, Lola finds a good spot on the sofa, stretches out her little short legs, and plays with his handheld computer, never once interacting with Conrad Sterling.
Granny Chandler deliberately did not mention Lola earlier; it’s because Lola refused to cooperate with her act.
This little guy, from the moment he steps into the office, his eyes start to dart around, and he just pretended to pass Conrad Sterling’s computer moments ago, sneaking a look at the files he was handling.
He likely still holds a grudge for his organization being disbanded by Conrad Sterling, his little brain is brewing plans to get back at him.
Conrad Sterling simply waves, boldly hands Lola the company’s quarterly project report.
"Can you understand?" Conrad Sterling attempts to suppress Lola’s intelligence with his age and educational advantage.
But Lola doesn’t easily concede; Conrad Sterling gives it to him, he takes it.
Goes out to find Ethan for help in photocopying and archiving.
With Lola’s intelligence, it’ll take him less than two years to fully understand it.
