Chapter 291: Chapter 291
"Conrad Sterling, didn’t you say that no one has lived here for many years? Why does it look so clean?"
Ever since the Thornton Residence burned down, Anna Thornton had nowhere to stay in Veridia.
Staying in a hotel wasn’t a long-term solution, so Conrad thought of his house in Veridia, which had been vacant for years.
Anna had bad memories in this house, but considering that it wasn’t much less luxurious than the Thornton Residence, despite some hesitation, she eventually chose to move in with her luggage.
"Someone comes to clean every three days. If you move in, I’ll have the cleaning staff come once a day."
After all, President Sterling knew how much Anna disliked cleaning.
"There are so many rooms. Can I reserve one for Mary?"
"Sure, but she can’t enter my room."
"As if anyone cares about going into your room!"
Conrad’s room was the source of all painful memories for Anna; she didn’t care for it at all.
Seeing Conrad’s relieved look, Anna could not help but become curious: "Is there something strange hidden in your room?"
"What do you mean by ’strange things’?"
"Like ’limited edition love action film collection,’ porn magazines, model’s private stash or something?" Anna speculated, stroking her chin. "After all, men always have some secret hobbies."
Conrad rolled his eyes at her: "Is this what your brain is filled with all the time?"
Obviously being secretly passionate, and yet acting prim and proper!
After Conrad left, Anna tidied up her luggage by herself.
She only needed to hang up her clothes and place her makeup and skincare products on the vanity; the rest didn’t need organizing.
Once she settled down, Anna couldn’t help but feel curious.
What exactly was in Conrad’s room that he wouldn’t let her enter?
Before leaving, he even locked the bedroom door.
However, Anna found another set of keys in the house. She took the corresponding key to unlock the bedroom door and tiptoed inside.
Conrad’s room was clean and tidy, just like him as a person, revealing nothing on the surface.
Anna searched the entire desk and only found some outdated finance magazines and newspapers.
No magazines or DVDs with sexy pin-ups, is he even a man?
Anna recalled her past experiences in this room, realizing that her awakening had all come from Conrad, answering her own question: yes!
Seeing the bed brought back her anger, as the sheets hadn’t been changed all these years.
In frustration, Anna jumped on the bed in her slippers, stomping and trampling on it: "Why keep it so neat? Just to annoy people? It’s infuriating! Infuriating!"
After stomping, she realized there wasn’t much worth being curious about in this room.
What was Conrad hiding, holding onto things for nothing!
Anna lost interest in exploring and jumped off the bed.
But before leaving the bedroom, her gaze was instinctively drawn to the built-in closet.
It should now be called a storage room since Conrad left for Aethelgard years ago. There shouldn’t be any clothes left.
Anna didn’t know what attracted her. Guided by an invisible force, she opened the wardrobe doors and didn’t find the musty smell of a long-sealed space.
Someone must often clean and tidy here!
But the storage room had nothing else, only a long white chiffon gown hanging there.
The chiffon gown looked ethereal, perfect for pairing with wings as decoration, and one would look like a fairy, an angel descended.
Isn’t this the gown Anna wore for her birthday four years ago?
Conrad said this dress fell into Holly Sutton’s hands soon after, who auctioned it off.
Turns out he bought it!
No wonder he instantly recognized that Angela Thornton was wearing a knock-off!
The original had been kept by him all along!
Anna reached out to touch the gown’s light chiffon. The threads were soft and lightweight, teasing her palm as if flaunting how well it had been cared for here.

"Cousin, it’s Angela! I’m downstairs at your company; if you’re not busy, come down for a chat?"
"If you’re busy, I can come up to find you!"
Anna received Angela’s call and was actually quite troubled.
It didn’t seem like anything good would come of it!
But since she was already at the company, it appeared Anna had no choice but to go down and meet her.
When Anna met Angela downstairs, she said directly: "I’m heading to the factory soon to check on the progress; I’m really busy. So please, just say what you want to say."
Despite Anna’s words, Angela still hesitated before asking: "Cousin, are you familiar with President Sterling?"
"Can you introduce me to him?"
"Didn’t you already meet him yesterday?"
"I don’t mean that kind of acquaintance; that’s too simple. I mean, is there a chance to meet him properly, chat, have a meal, or go shopping?"
Anna understood what she meant.
After all, it was clear yesterday that Angela was staring at Conrad wide-eyed. If the roles were reversed to male and female, Angela’s gaze would have been blatant enough for her to be arrested as a creep.
But the person of interest was Conrad Sterling!
Anna decided to respond firmly: "There’s no chance!"
"Why? Aren’t you very familiar with President Sterling? I’m your cousin; by extension, I should be friends with him too."
"I am indeed familiar with him." Familiar enough to have obtained a marriage certificate.
Anna, despite disliking Conrad, wasn’t crazy enough to sabotage herself.
"Anyway, I advise you for your own good not to pursue Conrad. Stay as far from him as possible."
"Cousin, why? You can be friends with President Sterling, but I have to stay away? Don’t tell me you’ve taken a liking to him and want to keep me from competing!"
"I wouldn’t be interested in him."
"Then why stop me from chasing him? You’re just being selfish! I’ve already given up Chase Quinn to you, but I want President Sterling, and you can’t snatch him from me. If you won’t introduce us then, I’ll pursue him myself! I’ll definitely make President Sterling my boyfriend. Just wait and see!"
Angela said her piece, grabbed her bag, glared at Anna, and turned to leave.
Anna had tried to advise as a relative should.
But since Angela didn’t appreciate it, what else could be said?
"I want to see President Sterling! I really am his friend; if you don’t believe me, call him out!"
"Miss, this is a hospital; you’ll disturb the patients’ rest!"
"I’m here to see a patient, let me in! Let me in!"
Conrad was about to have a video conference with the headquarters, but the noises outside the room were too disruptive.
The man closed his laptop, frowning at the nurse: "Who’s outside?"
"President Sterling, it’s a Miss Thornton, she insists on seeing you."
"Miss Thornton?" Anna had unrestricted access to Conrad, so the stranger outside his room was undoubtedly unknown.
But for safety’s sake, Conrad decided: "Let her come in then."
Upon seeing the nurse let Angela Thornton in, President Sterling immediately instructed: "Throw her out!"
"Wait, wait! President Sterling, it’s me, Angela Thornton. Don’t you remember me? We met just yesterday. I finally found out you were in this hospital, and I specifically bought fruits to visit you."
Angela thought her explanation was clear, and her manners were considerate and proper. Any man would want attention and care while hospitalized.
However, Conrad still said the same thing: "Throw her out! Are you deaf?"
"Yes, President Sterling!"
Several nurses approached and escorted Angela out as she had just entered.
Angela clung to the door frame, unwilling: "President Sterling, why?"
"Because I hate Thornton family members!"
"But my cousin also has the surname Thornton!"
Except for Anna, Conrad detested all those with the surname Thornton.
Angela wasn’t technically part of the Thornton family, she was caught in crossfire.
