Chapter 273: Chapter 273
In the evening, Anna planned to take Pop to have hotpot with Lola, and introduce the two adorable little cuties to become friends.
But the only obstacle was how to get rid of Conrad Sterling, the glaring third wheel.
Because earlier that afternoon, Anna needed Conrad Sterling’s help at the children’s clothing store, making it difficult for her to refuse him tagging along.
Anna racked her brain, and once they got to the street, she headed straight to a well-frequented lingerie shop with Pop.
President Sterling paused for a second at the door but then followed her in openly.
"Miss, what style do you prefer? Thin or thick? Wide straps or narrow straps? Innocent youthful style or sexy and charming?"
The store clerk asked a bunch of questions, and Anna simply turned to Conrad Sterling, "Why don’t you help me choose?"
The clerk noticed they had an unusual relationship, bringing along a child, and proactively approached Conrad Sterling, "Many of our customers have their husbands choose for them. After all, lingerie is so intimate, and only the closest person gets to see it, so a husband’s opinion is very valuable."
These days, it’s not unusual for men to buy lingerie for women.
But Conrad Sterling’s striking looks caused quite a stir among the other female customers whispering about him.
Anna, to have hotpot with Lola, had disguised herself and Pop with hats before leaving, which made the visual focus of the entire store land on Conrad Sterling alone.
Being someone who’s seen big scenes, since Anna asked him for help, President Sterling picked up a lace lingerie set without any mental burden, seriously listening to the clerk’s recommendations and explanations.
Anna took Pop to another area, and Conrad noticed she picked a half-transparent lace nightgown, waving it towards him, "Should I try it on?"
"Hmm." President Sterling nodded.
Yet, after trying it on, Conrad Sterling waited outside for almost ten minutes, and Anna was nowhere to be seen.
The man couldn’t hold back and pushed open the fitting room door, finding it empty. Where was Anna? ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ noveⅼfire.net
Conrad instinctively wanted to chase after her, but the store clerk stopped him, "Sir, your wife selected many lingerie pieces here before leaving and said you should help her with the payment."
Upon hearing this, Conrad turned to look, seeing the checkout counter almost piled up with lingerie.
Scanning each barcode was enough to keep him occupied for at least half an hour. Anna was really clever.
Being played by that woman, Conrad could only smile in anger.
Just afternoon, even knowing Anna was using him, he willingly obliged.
After all, he owed that woman, didn’t he?
Lola, thinking about having hotpot with Anna, was so happy she checked herself out in the mirror twice before leaving.
The little cutie was a model child herself, yet, after carefully selecting from many outfits, wore a tailored suit to have hotpot.
Who knew where such serious fussiness at such a young age came from?
When Lola first arrived at the agreed place with Anna, the little cutie adjusted his little bowtie, dismissing his driver and bodyguard, both third wheels, to the side.
However, before he could see Anna, Lola bumped into Freya Vaughn.
"Lola, Mom finally found you."
Freya Vaughn rushed over to hug the little cutie, causing Lola to immediately wrinkle his brow in resistance, wanting to push her away.
"Where have you been running off to these past few days, you kid? Why are you so thoughtless? Your dad is in trouble and got arrested by the police recently, and mom has been worried sick about it."
Lola’s resisting little hands paused slightly upon hearing that William Sutton was taken away.
"Mom only has you to rely on now. You can’t just run off everywhere again. Be good, Lola, come home with mom."
Anna arrived with Pop just a moment later, and when they got there, they happened to see Lola being tightly grabbed by Freya Vaughn, who was about to take him home.
Lola met Anna’s gaze, silently sighing.
Looks like tonight’s hotpot was not going to happen!
Anna noticed Freya Vaughn seemed a bit uptight and couldn’t go up to greet her.
She could only watch as Lola was taken away!
In the end, without having hotpot, Anna and Pop left the hotpot city, and bought the little cutie a corn candy.
Crossing the pedestrian lane, Anna held Pop while he seriously licked his candy.
Though it was a green light, a car suddenly rushed at them.
Anna almost didn’t react in time, luckily someone on the roadside timely pulled them both, carrying Pop up onto the sidewalk.
Anna looked up to see that the agile good Samaritan was actually Conrad Sterling.
President Sterling was holding his daughter, glaring at Anna, "Went to great lengths to shake me off just to end up in a car crash with Pop?"
"I didn’t know... that was an accident!"
Anna was shocked and lost her momentum facing President Sterling.
"Do you really think it was an accident? Or did you think after openly opposing Holly Sutton, she’d just sit back and do nothing?"
So, the car that almost hit Anna was not coincidental but sent by Holly Sutton?
Thinking about it, it was indeed possible!
That car didn’t even honk before charging at Anna...
Last time, sending punks to teach her a lesson failed, now they tried to orchestrate a car accident.
Anna felt her situation resembled experiencing a real-life version of Final Destination.
"Come on, let’s talk about it back home!" Conrad Sterling, holding his daughter with one hand, tightly grasped Anna’s cold hand with the other, and shoved her into the car.
After Pop was pacified and put to sleep, under the dim corridor light outside the hotel room, Conrad Sterling handed Anna a file.
"Open it and you’ll know!"
Anna looked at Conrad Sterling in confusion; once she opened the kraft-paper-sealed file to find out, she looked back at Conrad with even more bewilderment.
"These are evidence to help you topple Holly Sutton!"
"You collected all of this for me?"
"I get the rationale, but I witnessed Holly Sutton destroy the evidence of poisoning my dad back then. How could you still have evidence of her crime?"
If there truly was evidence left, Anna wouldn’t have walked away empty-handed after searching the past four years.
"The evidence of poisoning doesn’t exist anymore. The one I give you is fake."
"...Fake?" Anna wondered, "Are you suggesting I take fabricated evidence to report to the police?"
"Giving you these isn’t for direct reporting to the police."
"Then what do you mean?"
"What does it matter if it’s true or false, as long the evidence is in your hands, who has the chance to verify it? Exploiting people’s guilt, isn’t this your strong suit?" Conrad Sterling reminded Anna.
The tactic Conrad Sterling suggested was called bluffing.
Anna had used it before while dealing with Attorney White.
Even though the evidence was fabricated, as long as Anna seized the opportunity, she could make a huge deal out of it!
