Chapter 264: Chapter 264
"Lola, we’re almost at Auntie’s house. Do you know how to greet her?"
William Sutton and Freya Vaughn, accompanied by Lola, entered the Thornton Family mansion.
Despite being a family of three, they seemed somewhat peculiar.
Every time William and Freya visited, they appeared timid and cautious, but little Lola stood tall, as if he was returning to his own home.
From afar, the couple standing next to the charismatic little one didn’t resemble his parents; they looked more like his attendants.
Freya nudged William’s arm and whispered, "I feel a bit scared as soon as we enter this big door; it feels eerie."
"What is there to be afraid of?"
"You know, don’t you? How did your sister acquire this house back then? It caused ruin to the others, and she lives alone in such a huge place afterward, isn’t it spooky?"
"Don’t talk nonsense!"
William glared at Freya sternly and warned her, "When you see Holly later, don’t speak recklessly."
"What are you afraid of? We’re not relying on your sister anymore. You know, several talent agencies have approached me recently about signing contracts. They want to turn Lola into a child star, and the conditions they offer are quite generous. We have such a good and capable son; why fret about money in the future? I’m going to ask your sister today, why won’t she let Lola continue filming commercials? Does she know how much we lost last time when we had to rush back from Aethelgard?"
"Don’t forget! Without Holly, how would you have this precious son?"
William saw the proud look on Freya’s face whenever Lola was mentioned. She truly treated Lola as her own flesh and blood.
But whenever William looked at the child, he just wanted to know which wild man he was spawned from.
Not only did he not get to with Anna Thornton, but he was burdened with a scar from the ordeal, which was frustrating enough.
And now he had to raise this wild child for three years, what kind of deal was this?
Upon seeing Holly, Freya hurriedly brought Lola over to curry favor, "Lola, call Aunt."
"You child, hurry and call her!"
The little one remained silent, and as Holly stared at him, he shifted his gaze elsewhere.
Exuding a coolness, he was indifferent to everyone.
"Forget it!" Holly shook her head, "No matter how many times you’ve brought him to me, he’s never called me once, I don’t expect it anymore."
"He’s just shy around strangers, don’t take it to heart," Freya explained flatteringly.
"He’s not shy. He’s three years old and still doesn’t speak; he’s either too dumb or sick."
Holly picked an apple from the fruit platter on the coffee table, teasing Lola with it like playing with a monkey, "Little dumbo, want some?" This update ıs available on novel✦fire.net
Hearing this, Lola glanced at her.
A child’s gaze should be clear and innocent, or bewildered and frightened.
Yet, Holly felt an unsettling chill when she met Lola’s eyes.
She intended to tease him, but this kid looked at her with a disdainful gaze meant for idiots.
"Actually, Lola spoke when he was one or two years old, even earlier than other children; even the early childhood educator said he was a genius! But as he’s grown, he’s become more unwilling to talk. He’s not only silent with you as his Aunt but also never calls his parents at home," Freya sighed with regret as she reached this point.
She worried whether Lola might be autistic.
Freya had considered taking Lola to see a doctor, but William and Holly would never allow it.
Holly seeing Lola being so detached and mute, lost interest in trying to make him laugh.
"Let him go play elsewhere; I need to discuss something with you two."
"Lola, did you hear that? Daddy and Mommy need to discuss something with your Aunt, play by yourself for a while, but don’t wander off and don’t misbehave, okay?" Freya instructed carefully.
Holly first directed the nanny to take Lola out, to play a bit further away.
But Lola refused to be led, shook off the nanny’s hand, and confidently walked out on his own tiny steps.
"During your days in Aethelgard, did you spill any secrets where you shouldn’t? Especially regarding this kid’s lineage?" Holly asked.
"Don’t worry, I’ve always treated Lola as my own son. In my heart, Lola is mine by birth, how could I randomly reveal his origins?"
Holly then looked at William, who hastily declared, "I’ve never told anyone either."
Seeing them both guaranteeing, does that mean Anna Thornton’s meeting with Lola was purely coincidental?
"Then next, I need you to take Lola back to your hometown for a while."
"Why is that?" Freya came today intending to discuss with Holly about letting Lola continue filming commercials and even movies. "What’s the benefit of taking him back now? He can’t earn money there!"
"Money shortages I can help with, but if you want to keep your son, you’d better listen to me," Holly advised her.
"What does that mean? Is Lola’s biological... returned?" Freya asked, "She wouldn’t want to snatch my son, would she?"
Holly nodded, "If she knew the truth, she would certainly try to take him."
"That’s not going to happen!"
They’ve raised their son for three years; even if the real mother comes back to claim him, they can’t let him go.
Just as they reached this point, the nanny interrupted.
"Little master, why are you crouching here?"
As the nanny dragged Lola in from the doorway, Holly and Freya’s expressions changed simultaneously.
But little Lola had no reaction, still cute and mute, his small face holding a glass marble, appearing to have been crouching to collect it.
Moreover, Holly and Freya hadn’t explicitly stated anything, so even if Lola had overheard, could a three-year-old understand whom they were referencing?
Not only him, even Freya didn’t know who Lola’s biological mother actually was?
Initially, Holly handed the infant to Freya, stating it was born to an unmarried girl who thought it dead at birth, assuring it would cause no trouble.
But who knew that trouble would come when they raised him to three years old!
Freya didn’t care whose child Lola truly was; after raising him, he’s theirs, no one can take him.
Tomorrow she intended to take Lola to her hometown!
"Sis Zane, take Lola upstairs for a bit and don’t let him come down without my permission."
Holly, to ensure everything was fine, instructed the nanny to remove Lola.
Although he’s a three-year-old who still doesn’t fully understand words, Holly found it more reassuring to send him away.
Sometimes this kid’s gaze gave Holly a feeling of excessive cleverness.
For instance, now, with Sis Zane leading Lola to the second floor, keeping him far from the three below.
Lola looked at her speechlessly, his eyes conveying, "You’re the meddler!"
Just a bit longer, and he might have overheard the most vital part!
