Chapter 238: Chapter 238
Conrad Sterling had a car accident!
Anna Thornton found out a few days later!
That night, she was caught in the rain on her way back. Despite taking Mary’s advice of having a hot bath and drinking ginger tea, Anna still caught a cold the next day.
Since her difficult childbirth, her immune system has been relatively weak.
Anna lay in bed, drowsily sleeping for several days, during which Granny Chandler took care of her.
Conrad Sterling never showed up, which suited Anna just fine, so she didn’t ask.
Granny Chandler did mumble about it in Anna’s ear, but the day after Conrad’s accident happened to be when Anna’s cold was at its worst.
Her brain was in shutdown mode, her head so heavy that it was impossible to leave the pillow, and anything Granny Chandler said went in one ear and out the other.
It wasn’t until Henry Willow called, saying he wanted to come over to see her, that Anna got out of bed and changed her clothes.
During Anna’s illness, Pop stayed by her mommy’s side the whole time.
If mommy slept, she would sleep beside her.
When she awoke, she would climb out of bed and play alone in the bedroom.
Anna had just taken Pop downstairs when she heard the news in the hall discussing Conrad Sterling’s car accident.
She froze, looking at the screen showing the Bentley with a crushed front end, indeed Conrad’s car.
Conrad had the accident the night after he separated from Anna; it was news from several days ago.
With it still playing on TV, without a doubt, Granny Chandler had intentionally let Anna see it.
Henry Willow was already waiting in the living room, and he greeted the mother and daughter duo first, addressing Pop: "Sweetheart, do you remember uncle?"
Pop nodded and reached her little arms out to Henry Willow.
"I see, you want uncle to play little airplane games with you, don’t you?"
"Are you sure you can?" Anna questioned Henry Willow, despite him not needing his wheelchair anymore, he had just gotten his cast removed.
"Underestimating me? Anna, don’t you know men most hate being asked if they can do something?"
To prove himself, Henry Willow lifted Pop high, chanting his silly slogan loudly: "Little airplane takes off! Little airplane flies to find mommy~ Little airplane flies to find daddy~"
Pop was ecstatic as long as someone was playing with her, happily kicking her legs while flying up in Henry Willow’s arms.
Anna distinctly heard a crack from someone’s bones, yet Henry gritted his teeth, forcing a smile that said ’I’m fine.’
Anna couldn’t stand it anymore. While searching for the remote to turn off the TV, she asked Henry Willow, "You’re here for this too, right? Is he dead?"
Henry Willow set Pop down, stealing a deep breath.
Then, with a face full of seriousness, he sat before Anna: "Young Master Sterling is fine, he only broke a couple of bones due to the accident. It’s no big deal for real men like us. But you, I heard you were sick?"
"I’m already better."
"Oh, since you’re better, do you have time to go to the hospital? Young Master Sterling has been hoping you’d visit since the accident. I guess if he dies, it’ll be from missing you too much."
"Don’t apply your cheesy lines to me, okay?" Anna shuddered with goosebumps.
Henry Willow had to change tactics: "Then let me put it this way, Young Master Sterling broke one hand and one leg this time. But don’t worry, he’s a strong-willed person. Currently, he can still take care of himself. He doesn’t need you to go feed him, clean him, or take him to the bathroom. Just visiting is enough."
Before Anna reacted, Pop immediately tugged Anna’s sleeve, trying to pull her up, pointing to the car parked outside: "Mommy, find daddy~"
Conrad Sterling hadn’t returned home, and Pop was puzzled.
However, Anna was sick these days, so she had to stay by mommy’s side, taking care of her.
Now that mommy was well, Pop began to worry about daddy.
Even though Conrad Sterling ranked second in Pop’s heart, it was still a concern.
Pop hadn’t seen daddy for several days, and after the news as well as hearing Henry Willow’s recounting, the car accident rang serious to her. Don’t underestimate the comprehension of a three-year-old child; Pop’s little brow was already knitted tightly like a bow, tears welled as she looked at mommy.
"Pop, do you really want to go see daddy?"
Crestlight Hospital’s VIP ward—
Conrad Sterling had just undergone two surgeries for fractures, his right hand and left leg stitched and bandaged, with a mild abrasion on his neck.
On that rainy night a few days ago, his car was hit and overturned by a truck that suddenly swerved onto the road. Just being hurt to this extent was actually fortunate.
This time Conrad Sterling didn’t deliberately suppress the news of his accident; every major news channel reported how horrific the scene was, causing Sterling Group’s stock price to drop to some extent.
Anna Thornton couldn’t possibly not know!
However, the woman hadn’t come to see him yet.
Upon hearing footsteps getting closer outside the ward door, Conrad closed his work laptop with one hand, while also tidying his collar.
As the president, despite having two limbs injured, he was lucky not to have hurt his face.
A handsome man remains handsome even in hospital attire.
The ward door was pushed open, Henry Willow poked his head inside, smiling: "Sorry, President Sterling, it’s me! Disappointed?"
Conrad Sterling: "..."
"I’ve been to Sterling Residence, Anna was sick recently. She probably doesn’t know about your accident. Today I specifically went to inform her of this bad news, hoping to get her to visit the hospital, but was refused. However, she allowed me to bring Sweetheart to see you."
Henry Willow led Pop into the ward. Seeing Conrad was injured, Pop immediately rushed over, her little legs raising as she attempted to climb onto the bed.
Henry Willow helped by placing Pop on the bed.
Pop crawled over to Conrad’s right arm where it was bandaged, blowing on it gently, offering warm reassurance: "Daddy, does it hurt?"
"Wow, as expected of a caring little jacket! President Sterling, your treatment makes me want a daughter too." Henry Willow looked enviously at Conrad, sourly turning into a lemon sprite, "Didn’t I say, back when you refused to acknowledge the mother and daughter, I planned on taking over? How wonderful would it have been to have Sweetheart as my daughter!"
Conrad gave Henry Willow a sideways glance, warning him through his expression not to bring up the past.
After all, everyone has things they’d rather not face, even President Sterling has moments of regret.
Conrad’s gaze shifted from Henry Willow to Pop, swiftly changing his emotions. Facing his daughter, he managed to gather all his tenderness, squeezing it out perhaps from the crevices of his fingernails: "It doesn’t hurt, don’t worry."
"Sweetheart, did you know? Physical pain isn’t a big deal, it’s the heartache that’s hardest to heal." Henry Willow interrupted again.
Hearing this, Pop scratched her little head in confusion, indicating she didn’t understand. The source of this content ɪs novel[f]ire.net
