Chapter 221: Chapter 221
Anna Thornton realized the man who pulled her into the room was actually Conrad Sterling.
Further down, a little child peeked out from behind the man.
Anna looked surprised at the big and small figures that appeared in front of her as if by magic.
"You mentioned a commercial event,is it in Veridia?" Conrad Sterling asked her.
"Um...yes. But why are you here?"
Both of them didn’t tell the truth, they looked at each other suspiciously, and the atmosphere fell into silence for a moment.
The little child stood between them, tried hard to tilt her head to see mommy, then tried hard again to tilt her head to see daddy, finally choosing to pounce on Anna and hug her leg.
"Pop, did you miss mommy?"
Anna’s heart melted, as she picked up her daughter, she noticed something was off: "Conrad Sterling, what did you make Pop wear? Why is she wearing long pants in the summer?"
"The skirt was too short, so she wore leggings underneath."
President Sterling knows about leggings, Anna was at a loss whether to laugh at him first: "This is a skirt from when Pop was two, of course, it’s short."
Anna is the one who manages Pop’s things; even Granny Chandler doesn’t know well.
Besides, she hurriedly left yesterday, and randomly packed a few changeable clothes for the kid into his luggage.
In the morning, Conrad Sterling let Pop choose what to wear, and she chose this.
How could Conrad Sterling know it’s clothes for a two-year-old? He can’t tell the difference between how children look at two and three.
Poor little Pop, her clothes are one size smaller, sure to be uncomfortable and tight.
Luckily, she’s been in an air-conditioned room all day, otherwise, wearing long pants in this weather would definitely give her a rash?
Anna just finished changing Pop’s clothes when her phone rang.
She deliberately avoided Conrad Sterling, heading to the window to answer the call.
"Anna, I won’t be joining you for dinner tonight."
Anna glanced back at Conrad Sterling, the man took out a laptop and was working, looking as if he’s really here for a business trip.
Anna walked a bit farther away, lowered her voice on the phone: "Dylan, do you have plans tonight?"
"Yes, some classmates know I’m back, and arranged to meet up with me."
"Can’t you bring me to the classmate gathering? I also want to meet more friends."
"Well...next time. Next time for sure I’ll introduce my friends to you, today you just wait for me at the hotel, I’ll try to come back early."
Anna looked through the peephole of Conrad Sterling’s room, just in time to see Dylan White pass by nervously, entering the elevator.
With Dylan White’s vanity, if it’s truly a casual classmate gathering, he wouldn’t go without bringing Anna along?
The tone tonight was obviously off; it is very likely Holly Sutton arranged to meet him.
"That Conrad Sterling..." Anna suddenly turned around to the man who always kept his eyes on the computer, "I just remembered there’s an event in the mall tonight, I’m leaving Pop to you."
As if seeking not to give Conrad Sterling any chance to refuse and avoiding his doubts, Anna directly pushed the little child into his arms, quickly lowering her head to kiss Pop’s chubby cheek, "Sweetheart, Mommy will come home tonight to tell you stories."
Anna only remembered to explain to Pop, leaving nothing but the scent of a wisp of hair on Conrad Sterling’s nose, leaving nothing else behind.
Looking down at the sympathetic look in his daughter’s eyes, Conrad Sterling wasn’t pressured: "Don’t get too happy too soon; she definitely won’t be back before your designated bedtime."
Dylan White hurried out of the hotel entrance, got into a car.
He didn’t drive over this time; this car was rented for travelling, initially planning to take Anna around. This car has a large space, front seats can recline, seats have heating function; apart from cruising around, it’s also suitable for car activity.
Failing to persuade Anna Thornton last night, Dylan White was unwilling to give up.
However, to his surprise, Anna Thornton was easier to handle than he imagined.
It seemed over the years, the proudness of the Thornton family princess has been worn away, leading to her being completely calm now.
If Dylan White knew, he wouldn’t have used those drugs unnecessarily.
Unexpectedly, Dylan White planned to make a move on Anna tonight.
Who knew he’d be interrupted—Holly Sutton, who’s rarely been in touch, suddenly contacted him.
Holly Sutton and Dylan White met at a Korean restaurant; four years ago, they conspired together to trap the Thornton family, but their relationship wasn’t deep afterwards.
Especially after Dylan White went to Aethelgard to develop, he felt Holly Sutton witnessed his most scandalous dark history, felt uncomfortable seeing her, didn’t plan to stay long.
So as soon as he sat down, he asked bluntly, "President Sutton, we haven’t had much to do with each other for a long time, why did you suddenly have time to invite me to dinner?"
"I also wanted to ask Attorney White, you have big ambitions, moved your entire law firm to Aethelgard, yet suddenly have time to return to Veridia?"
"I...it’s due to work arrangements, came back to meet a client."
Upon hearing Dylan White’s obviously evasive response, Holly Sutton’s face immediately changed; she slammed the table, spilling the drink, "That client you’re talking about couldn’t be Anna Thornton, right?"
Soon the restaurant waiter came to clean up, Holly Sutton and Dylan White fell silent for a moment.
Until a new drink was served before Holly Sutton; she then spoke again, "I saw it, you and that stubborn girl Anna Thornton walked out of Veridia’s police station, then you had coffee and returned to the hotel."
"You’re following me?" Newest update provıded by NoveI-Fire.ɴet
"I happened to see it; however, Attorney White, I need you to explain. What’s your relationship with Anna, and why did you come back to Veridia?"
"That’s right, I’m indeed persuading her. She said it’s close to her father’s death anniversary; I came with her to pay respects. President Sutton, our transaction ended four years ago; do I need to explain my personal life to you now?"
"You remember we had a transaction four years ago, right? Kenneth Thornton treated you well before, but what did you do to him? You dare accompany his daughter back to Veridia for honoring; aren’t you afraid the old ghost will haunt you at night?"
"I personally don’t believe in ghosts, only believe in fate being in my own hands. Besides, everything happened four years ago; Anna came home with no intention of snatching anything away from you, nor does she have that qualification. What are you worried about, President Sutton?"
"I’m not worried about her, but you!" Holly Sutton glared at the man before her vigilantly, "I’m wondering if four years ago when you helped revise that old man’s will, did you keep a backup copy?"
"Then why did you take her to the police station today?"
"I was only...dealing with my personal matters. President Sutton, you’re overthinking; I’m a professional lawyer, only doing professional matters, my reputation over the years is obvious."
"It’s for the best, I warn you—don’t think having that girl in hand lets you plan to help her regain the Thornton family’s assets, then holding all assets under your control. Anna couldn’t compete with me four years ago; now even with you, she’s no match."
"And don’t forget, you were the one who initiated collaboration to alter the old man’s will. If you’ve kept a backup, I also have leverage against you; I’ll ensure you lose everything even in bankruptcy, leaving you with nothing!"
