Chapter 202: Chapter 202
Anna was eating a fish ball, she had just picked it up when the private room door was suddenly pushed open with a bang.
She instinctively shook her hand, and the fish ball jumped off the chopsticks, rolling two meters away on the ground.
Jane and Conrad had gone outside to talk for quite a while, and when they returned, Jane took out her anger on the door, grabbed her bag, and was about to leave.
"Sorry, I have something to do, so I have to leave first. You guys enjoy your meal slowly."
Before leaving, Jane glanced at Anna.
At this moment, Conrad came in from outside; neither exchanged a word or even seemed to have had a pleasant discussion.
Conrad sat down and continued his role as the ’hot dish server,’ scooping two fish balls into Anna’s bowl.
"Generally speaking, when a girl goes out at night, the chances of encountering danger are quite high," Henry reminded Conrad.
"If you can’t rest easy, why don’t you follow her out to check?"
At this moment, Henry really wanted to borrow a mirror to check himself; doesn’t he look miserable enough? How could he worry about anyone else?
"Alright, I’ll go! It seems I’m destined to be someone who cherishes flowers!"
Henry shook his wheelchair in sympathy as he made a discreet exit: "Anyway, I have no place here now, thanks for treating me with dog food tonight!"
Conrad originally intended to host this meal to account for his marriage with Anna, who knew Jane would make it so awkward.
Fortunately, Anna’s nature is carefree, and her appetite is not affected at all.
Besides, once Jane left, she could finally feel at ease bringing Pop over.
Carefully boiling a small piece of beef, she fed it to the little one.
"Pop, how does it taste?"
Before Pop turned three, Anna didn’t dare give her chili.
Tonight, the little one’s first hot pot turned out surprisingly favorable to her taste.
The little girl was panting from the spice but still looked at her mommy with her mouth open, wanting more.
It seems Conrad will upgrade from Anna’s exclusive hot dish server to being the mother-daughter duo’s server.
As for Mary, she quietly looks after herself and tries her best to be an inconspicuous third wheel.
Once full, she quickly got a taxi and left!
Pop sat yawning in the child seat, Anna was looking down at her phone.
She didn’t ask anything; instead, Conrad actively mentioned: "I plan to transfer Jane to the branch company in the south tomorrow. From now on, she won’t be responsible for Dynasty Entertainment over there."
Anna, having just finished a game, looked up in surprise at his words.
"I heard from Henry that you treat Jane like a sister?"
"I don’t have a sister! But I’ve known her for quite a while, plus our parents have a connection, so I take care of her more."
"Have you noticed that she likes you?"
"It’s unrelated to that!"
Unrelated? So did Conrad realize it or not?
Or does he just not care what Jane thinks of him?
Is there another reason for suddenly deciding to transfer Jane? ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ NoveI-Fire.ɴet
If Anna were a bit more manipulative, now would be the time to persuade Conrad not to transfer Jane.
With a difficult yet understanding tone, she would say, "I don’t want to affect your friendship with her because of me; I’ll try my best to get along with your ’sister with parental connections,’ don’t worry!"
Instead, she opened another game round, saying nothing more.
After all, Jane being transferred would indeed be good for Anna.
Moreover, Conrad brought it up; it has nothing to do with her.
Anna never does unnecessary politeness, thereby avoiding trouble for herself.
Earlier at the hot pot, Jane’s last glance at Anna made her feel uneasy.
She couldn’t quite pinpoint why.
Anna’s instinctively felt she should distance herself from Jane.
"By the way, for so long I’ve known you, tonight seems like the first time you’ve mentioned your parents! What do your parents do?" Anna casually asked.
Conrad’s hand gripped the steering wheel and stiffened: "They do medical research!"
"Nothing, just seems unexpected!"
But on second thought, Conrad did initially start out in the medical field.
However, now he’s covered in wealth, with Sterling Group flourishing across various domains, overshadowing the hospitals he opened nationwide, known as ’Crestlight Hospital.’
Conrad’s study was unusually dark tonight; he moved his computer and some work files to the bedroom.
The man seemed distracted all night, unable to resist glancing at the time every few minutes, then towards the open bedroom door.
Today marked his and Anna’s wedding night.
From now on, this room would host an additional woman.
Conrad opened the closet, still not used to so many vibrant and lively colors.
Anna’s large suitcases were tidied up by Conrad and mostly moved into his room by the servants.
Conrad scanned his sleepwear area, remembering Anna’s disdain for him wearing black for being dull, so he purposely chose a set of gray-striped pajamas tonight.
Yet after showering and changing, he waited for a long time, but Anna didn’t come.
Pop usually goes to sleep at nine-thirty, but now it’s already ten-thirty, she should be asleep by now.
Conrad decided to stand up from the workstation to check.
Carefully and quietly pushing open the neighboring room’s door, he found Anna cuddled with Pop on the child’s bunk bed, both deeply asleep.
Conrad tried calling her once, but the woman didn’t respond.
Unable to raise his voice for fear of waking the child, Conrad saw Anna deeply asleep, and could only withdraw gloomily from the children’s room, returning to his bedroom.
Looks like he’s best suited to an all-night work session at the computer tonight!
But contrary to expectations, his mood was off, efficiency low; staring at the computer, the words wouldn’t sink in.
Conrad pondered, unable to resist getting up to visit the children’s room once again.
Regarding the soundly sleeping mother-daughter, Conrad attempted to place various plush toys Pop liked beside her.
With these little animal friends nearby, Pop wouldn’t be frightened upon waking.
As for Anna, Conrad scooped her together with the quilt back to his room.
Anna was sleeping soundly, dreaming suddenly of missing a step on the stairs.
She abruptly awoke, discovering herself in a different bed.
Beside her sat a man, staring at her intently.
"Conrad? How am I sleeping here?"
Anna sat up, puzzled, running fingers through her hair: "Where’s Pop? I should check on her!"
She was about to get out of bed and put on shoes when a large hand suddenly wrapped around her waist, the man’s heavy breathing fell on Anna’s fair neck.
"Conrad, you weren’t drugged tonight, were you?"
"Calm down first, I have something to say! Really, something important!"
Conrad was already pressing Anna back onto the bed, hardly able to free his mouth to ask: "What on earth?"
"Well, wasn’t it said I could make demands? I want to make my first one now!"
"Do you have to say it now?"
Conrad wasn’t drugged tonight, yet his voice was tinged with impatient hoarseness.
In such a moment, even if Anna wanted to talk, the man didn’t have the patience to listen.
But she insisted: "Yes, I really must! Because the condition I want to bring up is related to this! Move up a bit; you’re pressing on me."
Conrad realized he had unintentionally pressed too heavily on her leg.
As he eased his weight, Anna slipped out from underneath him, fixed her clothes, and protected her chest.
"So, you personally agreed that I could set conditions, so no matter what I ask, you have to fulfill it, without getting angry!"
"Listen carefully, my first condition is about marital engagements! Your needs can’t be too frequent, nor disregard my feelings! My suggestion is... at most once a month!"
Conrad heard someone making demands concerning such matters for the first time!
Upon hearing it was only allowed once a month, he exploded completely.
"Anna, did you marry me just for free food and accommodation? Went to great lengths to make sure we got certified married, but now you don’t want to fulfill marital duties? Do you think such a deal exists in the world?"
