Chapter 76: Chapter 76
Damien was fast in finding their clothes. Although they were in heat a while back, their clothes were torn apart. After he passed the clothes to Viona, his sharp claws returned, wanting to rip the intruder's throat off. On the contrary, Viona seemed a bit lost as soon as she realized something within her wolf. Her wolf wanted to find the intruder first before Damien could but why?
The question was left behind her mind as Damien's voice laced out in warning,
" I can smell him in the air. Viona, I want you to go back to the pack house and call others for me secretly. I believe that if I make a single noise, the intruder would run away."
Damien let out a low, gutteral growl, sharpening his eyes around. His wolf was possessive around his mate. It didn't want any harm to fall on Viona. Viona pondered between her thoughts and spoke after regaining her rational thoughts,
" Alpha, why don't I stay with you? What if there had been a sudden attack on you?"
Viona tried to resonate but Damien's wolf snapped back, growling at her furiously,
" No! I can't take the risk of hurting you. Do as I told!"
Viona bit her bottom lips and nodded heavily. Her wolf was defying against her decision and wanted to look for the person who invaded into their territory. But how could he convince Damien? This nerd Alpha King!
She mentally shrugged before deciding to take the root, back to the pack house. Damien sighed in relief when she didn't argue back and obeyed like a decent wife. Getting on his fours again, Damien started sniffing the air again.
The smell was strong! There must be someone around!
_________
Alaric was still lingering in puzzlement after spotting those vampireban in wolf's territory. As a Royal and pure blooded vampire, Alaric had the power to conceal his smell from wolf's nose but in presence of vampireban, it was impossible for him to protect his smell. It had only one meaning, the wolves had already known about his presence.
Muttering some curse under his breath, Alaric changed direction, leaving scent everywhere to confuse the wolfs. He had to give up his thoughts of visiting Viona today. Gritting his teeth together, Alaric jumped from one tree to another, leaving his scent everywhere in the woods.
Damien's wolf sniffed the air hard, growling furiously to detect the strong presence nearby. He howled animalisticly once before getting on his fours and running through the woods. Damien paused as soon as he arrived in front of a giant tree, dropped his head to sniff heavily.
Fuck!
His human voice muttered inside and emphasized his word out, cursing,
Vampire!
This one single name was enough to awake his killing intent. The death of his parents aroused deep hatred for these vampires and he was determined to kill them off. His wolf wanted avenge so did he. Arching his wolf head in the air, Damien howled like a predator once again and begun to run desperately, in search of the vampire who stepped feet in their territory.
He would kill him surely!
______
Viona's feet hit the ground weakly. Her wolf didn't agree with her decision so that she kept pushing her to go back to the woods.
What was wrong with her recently? Did she want to protect Damien?
Viona couldn't think through it properly but surely, her wolf was acting weird. Her feet paused out of choice, a helpless sigh escaping through her mouth. It was really frustrating to fight against her wolf and tiring too. Fighting with others might seem easy but fighting with your own instinct seem really scary. Biting the corner of her lips, Viona stopped in her track and turned around, looking back into the woods.
She might find the intruder first and see what was going wrong actually!
Her wolf panted, agreeing to her immediately. Exhaling, she decided to do what her wolf wanted and walked back into the woods tiptoeing.
She must figure out why she was having this feelings!
______
Alaric stayed stuck against a big tree, paying close attention to the noise nearby. He could detect the footsteps of four legs, angered and desperate to find him possibly.
It must be a wolf!
He gritted his teeth harder, not wanting to leave anymore scent in the air. He wasn't afraid of fighting against a wolf but surely, it would cause havoc in their vampire territory if they knew that their prince had invaded into wolf's territory. He didn't want to put Viona's life in more danger.
Thinking of something, Alaric spotted a fruit nearby and snatched it off immediately before throwing in distance. He believed that wolf would get distracted. As expected, Damien's wolf was desperate to find the intruder. So he didn't give it much thoughts to the producing noise. He ran for the direction desperately as soon as the noise hit his ears. Gruffing in the air, Damien changed the direction and went to the way where Alaric just threw the fruit.
A victorious smirk grew from the corner of Alaric's lips as soon as he diverted Damien's attention from his exact hiding place. Vampires and werewolves had always been like this, getting joy to defeat each others. Holding back his urge to laugh loudly, Alaric climbed off the tree, proceeding to find a safer place to hide as it wasn't safe to run out now. The wolves might have gone to guard near the territory. It was impossible for him to cross the border now.
Brushing off the ideas, Alaric switched his direction, getting deeper into the woods. Co-incidently, Viona was getting back, using the same root when she saw a figure, coming though the darkness. She panicked momentarily and pushed up her defensive walls around her.
Both of them froze seeing each others but Alaric was the only person whose eyes sparked in happiness. Maybe, she felt the same like him. Alaric squeezed past a big smile, approaching her swiftly,
" Viona..you have come out..we really.."
Alaric couldn't form his words properly in happiness. It took a while for Viona to regain her conscious as she jerked snapping her eyes wide in disbelief,
" Alaric..What are you doing in our territory? Do..do you know how dangerous is that for you?"
Alaric blurted smiling into her eyes,
" I don't care..I just wanted to see you.."
Viona's brows tightened together in a deep frown on his words. But she brushed it off as soon as Damien's footsteps begun to echo in her eardrums clearly. She pressed her lips together tightly, letting out a curse,
" Shit! My mate..he is on his way.. let's hide somewhere, Alaric."
Alaric didn't seem happy when the word ' mate' rolled out of her throat. She looked loyal to her mate but only if it was him! He blurted from his fury, clenching his jaw hard,
" No! I don't fear your mate. I can fight him."
Viona hissed out of rage, grabbing his arms tightly,
" Don't be so ridiculous, Alaric. He is the king of all Alphas. He will kill you someone commoner like you easily. Just follow my way. You need to get out."
Her touch warmed his heart as he nodded his head reluctantly and let her drag into her direction.
Living in this territory for the long period, Viona knew about their each secret places just like the holes under old trees in the woods. She brought Alaric into a hole to cover themselves from Damien's sharp eyes. Alaric was her friend and she didn't want her mate to harm her friend absolutely.
They both hid into the big hole, waiting patiently for Damien to leave the woods. At some point, Viona got really impatient and blurted with a frown,
" Why the heck isn't he leaving yet?"
Alaric saw the unseen concern on her face and subconsciously, he smiled knowingly. It was impossible to avoid a bond once it's fated. Alaric spoke getting closer to her,
" Viona, why did you come out at this hour?"
Viona made her casual comment, shrugging and missing the deep look from Alaric,
" We came to patrol then he smelt you first. I don't know why but my wolf wanted to meet you first. It was like something was pulling me to save you. Lucky, I was on time or else these wolves would have kicked your ass."
Alaric laughed at her sassy words and was proud somewhere inside. He really liked her dominant attitude. But his emotions were too complicated to hide today. For the first time, he saw her caring for his life a bit and it made him happy deeply.
Damien's footsteps sounded light from their hiding spot. Viona understood that her mate had gone far away from them and she heavied a sigh of relief. Frowning, she suggested wanting to get out of this smelly hole of tree,
" Damien has gone too far, I guess. Let's take you back to the border."
Viona already lifted up to get out when she was suddenly hold from back, forcing to stay on place. Viona looked back at Alaric strangely whose face was now complicated in emotions. Alaric stressed his each words out nervously,
" Why did you come out to save me, Viona?"
Viona's mouth agaped but nothing came out since she didn't know why her wolf wanted to walk back to the woods. A part of her told that it wasn't any easy thing that she thought to be. Alaric grabbed onto her arms tightly, repeating his words in serious voice this time,
" Why did you come? Do you know? Why are you saving me over your mate?"
His questions made her uncomfortable since it was the truth that she was hiding him from her fated mate who was going to stay with her lifetime.
Why was she doing it?
