Chapter 40: Chapter 40

Alexander

We arrived at my pack very early morning the next day to see that the pack security at the borders had been replaced by rogues.

I and Kai led the warriors made up of over sixty men and we started fighting the rogues.

We killed a majority of them, with a few fleeing into the woods for safety.

As we entered the pack, I couldn't help but notice that so many things had changed. Though it was still slightly dark in the morning, the once happy and full-of-life pack looked rather desolate.

Despite the loud growling of wounded men in the streets and clashing of swords, the pack members didn't come out to see what was happening, as a result of fear.

I was surprised to see so many newly built reformatories around the pack and all were filled up with members of the pack.

Reformatories were built by the past kings to reform rogues who wished to be readapted into the pack system. It was never meant for pack members, especially not when they have not committed any crime.

We fought off the rogues that were sanctioned at the prison doors as security guards, after which we opened the prison doors for the pack members to come out.

They all looked surprised and excited as soon as they saw me leading the men to fight off the rogues.

Why wouldn't they be? their alpha king was back from the land of the dead after all.

More rogues jumped out from different corners to attack us but they were all defeated in no time.

Finally, we got to the pack house and my heart broke to see how bad and ruined my building was looking.

Derrick's building was looking good and in perfect condition, the same as the building Jessica lived in.

Just mine was looking wrecked and abandoned.

It looked like there had been some sort of explosion, and I couldn't help but imagine if Ashley was in there when the blast went off.

Was she wounded in the blast or did she manage to go out, now armed with this new information, my heart starts throbbing more for Ashley.

If she indeed was hurt during the attacks, it would be difficult for her to heal in the time since she is wolfless.

I hated myself that moment for not trying to turn her into a werewolf.

Even though many werewolves rarely change their wolfless mates, it was possible.

I have heard it takes a ritual performed by a witch to transform a wolfless or human mate into a werewolf. Although the mate would have to give his or her consent before the transformation can take place.

I wished I knew better then.

The temptation of wanting to go in to see the extent to which the apartment had been damaged was strong within me, especially since it would also give me an opportunity of getting to see some of Ashley's things that she must have left behind.

But every second I waste is giving Derrick who by now would have been alerted of our presence an opportunity to escape.

Slowly I shifted my attention to Derrick's apartment which was still looking very intact and quiet.

Kai looked at me as if wanting me to give him and his men approval to invade Derrick's House.

“I can take care of him, tell the men to group themselves in various units and stand guard at the various borders,” I said to him.

I was halfway towards the door of Derrick's house when Kai's voice halted my steps.

“I want to go with you,” he said and I turned to look at him.

I thought for a second what his reason would be since I was yet to decide what I was going to do with Derrick.

But since I was still unsure if there were going to be more rogues waiting behind the door, I allowed him to join me without further persuasion.

We got to the door to find that it was locked from within, and after several attempts to open it quietly failed.

We both signaled ourselves to slam the door open with our legs on the count of three.

On three we forcefully opened the door as the once-quiet apartment came alive with screaming and foots moment from both slaves and servants.

I was quick to order some of the slaves back to their rooms so they are not put in harm's way.

We hurried up the stairs leading to Derrick's room and broke down the door to find his bed empty.

The room was poorly lighted and from what we could see, he was nowhere in the room.

Little sounds coming from beside the bed redirected our attention, I was going to check who it was when I was stopped by Kai.

I looked at him confused at his actions but knew better than to question him at that moment.

“It's Jessica, I will take care of her while you search the other rooms for Derrick,” he said in a firm voice.

I was surprised how he knew that the person that we were yet to see her face was Jessica and I could see him trying to keep his wolf in control.

“Don't hurt her, ” I said to him after wondering about the type of connection he might have with Jessica.

He nodded in affirmation to me and stood as if waiting for me to o out of the room.

If I didn't know better, I would think that he was Jessica's mate, but again why would Jessica reject such a great guy like him? Moreover, she has never mentioned to me or anyone for that matter that she had a mate.

Maybe I am overthinking this

I said to myself as my eyes subconsciously went to the space we had earlier heard the sound and lingered a while before I walked out.

I couldn't afford to lose sight of the Derrick, the sooner I get him,  the better for the peace of the pack.

I ransacked the apartment as I searched every room and corner of the apartment, but he was nowhere in sight.

Derrick! Derrick!!

I screamed through the pack house as I searched the entire place for him, but he seem to have long gone

Coward!

Kai's POV

Her smell hit me as soon as I stepped into the apartment, though it was faint, I couldn't miss it. The scent of a Wild Roses mixed with beach waves.

I had tried finding that scent in all of my adventures with the hope that I could replace her. I had searched high and low, captioning any girl that cane an inch close to looking like her, but yet none smelled like her.

Mate

My wolf growled with mixed emotions as soon as he perceived her. It was crazy to me how after how many years later, my wolf was still in love with the crazy bitch called Jessica.

Her scent became more dominant as soon as we entered Derrick's room, and I had to fight with my wolf for a few seconds after I noticed it was going to make me go insane.

It was better to have heard of the torment jessica was going through, but getting to see her live made me furious.

I also notice I was nervous about not knowing how I was going to face her and what I could say to her.

Though the room was dark, I knew where she was, I was just afraid of which state I was going to find her haven't been told that she has been Derrick's sex slave.

But despite my feelings, I couldn't bring myself to let any other man see her in that state, that was the reason I asked Alexander to let me handle her.

I moved with uneven steps to the bedside afraid of what I was going to see, I had at some point closed my eyes and exhaled to help me calm down. But I was still as nervous as fuck.

Then slowly my eyes fell upon her naked body on the floor, she was shivering and coiled up like a child on the floor.

My heart melted and at that moment all the anger I had for her disappeared as the need to protect her became stronger.

I quickly reached out to help her but as soon as my hand made to touch her she shivered and let out a little scream. She looked scared and traumatized and the reason is not far-fetched.

There were lots of fading scars all over her body, and a few fresh ones that were healing up due to her wolf genres.

It was so hearting wrecking to see her in such a state, the jessica I knew was a badass bitch who many boys in the same age group as mine dreaded.

She was beautiful and strong for a girl and to be quite honest I felt intimidated by her.

I was surprised that night after I trailed the most soothing scent I have perceived was coming from her.

I immediately had a bitter-sweet feeling about that evening because I knew there was no way she would ever accept me as her mate.

She was an alpha she-wolf, proud and greatly skilled in bow and arrow, while I was just an omega and a poor one at that.

I was not surprised that she rejected me but I was angry because she didn't give us an opportunity.

I suffered her rejection more because I was weaker than she was. It was a good thing she left me that night before I could accept the rejection because I couldn't even bring myself to accept it for the fear that I might die from the excruciating pain I was in.

Her little uncommunicative moments brought my mind back to her and I moved closer

“Don't be afraid,” I heard myself say to her as I make to touch her again, but she still was shivering and on closer look, I discover her hands were tied.

I helped her loosen the rope from her hands which had turned red and I looked around the room to see if there was anything I could use to cover her up.

I was angry as I checked through the wardrobe to find nothing other than Derrick's clothes, I was not going to wrap her in that monster clothes.

So I looked for other means of getting her covered as I was sure that Alexander would be back in the room and I didn't want him to see her in that unclad state.

With time running out and left with no other choice, I pulled off my shirt, luckily I had a sleeveless t-shirt underneath.

I help her to put on my shirt, after which, I lifted her from the floor, she was very light and looked skinny.

If Alexander does not find the bastard that did this to you, I will find him and when I do I will kill him,” I said to her, as I carried her outside the room.
