Chapter 18: Chapter 18

Jake glanced at me with a smirk playing on his lips. "Come on, baby doll. It's time to play nurse."

"As you say, bad ass bad boy." I replied as I made my way to him.

I sat down beside him as he opened the first aid kit. He started cleaning Sean's bite while I started cleaning Shane's. He was rubbing a cotton ball soaked in disinfectant when he glanced at me. "So what do you think about the werewolf life now after you turned into a wolf? Do you still like it?"

I glimpsed at him as I continued pouring disinfectant on the cotton ball in my hand. "Yes, of course. What about you?"

"I like it too, but I'm not sure how others will react to us."

I placed the disinfectant's bottle down on the ground and dabbed at Shane's bite. "And by others, I'm guessing that you mean the other gang members."

"Yes, that's what I mean." He sighed as he seemed to think about it then looked over at me again. "What do you think about your future as a werewolf? I mean if you are going to get married later on, are you okay with marrying someone like that?"

My eyebrows furrowed as I thought of what he said, "Yes, this is my kind now, not the human kind anymore. What about you? Are you thinking of your lost chance with a human girl?"

I asked with a teasing smile as I glanced at him. He chuckled as he shook his head while still looking at me. "You know that you are the only girl for me, baby doll."

I laughed, "I don't that you so sure of that, and I still need time."

"Take all the time you need, I'm always here."

"But I also don't think that we would work. We are better off as friends." I said, feeling bitterness fill me as I said those words. I like Jake a lot, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to be with him. The only relationship that I was in, I was abused, so everything seemed so complicated to me. I also didn't want to drag him down with all my emotional baggage.

Jake's look turned serious as he stopped wiping the blood, "Don't say that, Max. We have a connection and you know it too. Take your time and think about what I've said."

I looked back at him as he stared at me firmly in determination, and I sighed, moving my gaze back to Shane's shoulder. "Fine. I will think about it, but my thinking time will be very long."

"As you wish, baby doll." He replied as he finished cleaning Sean's shoulder and moved to Mike.

I also finished cleaning Shane's shoulder and moved to Alex just as the door opened and the doctor, Dr. Ethan entered, holding a briefcase. He usually attended to the gang at home since we couldn't quite explain that we are involved in gang fights to the hospital staff. He walked further into the room as his gaze moved around the bodies on the ground and us.

"What happened in here? Were they bitten by the same dog that bit you too?" Dr. Ethan asked, looking concerned as he reached us.

Jake and I looked at each other as we tried to think of an answer, and we turned back to him. "Uh, yeah."

My answer made him nod, "Then you should get help for that dog and maybe have him restrained."

"We will." Jake replied then gestured to our friends on the floor. "Can you check on them as we clean their wounds?"

"Yes, sure. That's why I'm here." Dr. Ethan said then walked towards Drake. He knelt down and settled his briefcase down on the ground. He opened it and pulled out a stethoscope. Putting the ear buds in his ear, he placed the head on Drake's chest, feeling for his heart beat.

I looked back to Alex's shoulder and gave the last swipe to clean the blood on the bite. I looked towards Jake and saw that he was already done with Mike, and was now cleaning Jane's bite. The doctor was also checking Drake's eyes now as he still lay unconscious.

Soon, the doctor was done checking all of our friends and we were done cleaning all of their wounds. Jake and I were now standing in front of Dr. Ethan as he told us about our friends' conditions. "They will be alright. The same symptoms as you two when you were bitten. Fever and being unconscious, but theirs seem not as worse as yours. They will probably wake up sooner than you two did."

"Okay, thanks, doc." Jake said and I added, "Yeah, thanks for helping."

As Dr. Ethan was about to reply, Rafer appeared in the doorway as he looked around the room. "What in the world happened in here?"

We all turned to him, and Dr. Ethan explained, "Your friends are stable now, but with some fever from the dog bites."

Rafer looked confused as he asked, "What dog?"

"I'll tell you later." Jake said to him, not wanting to discuss the werewolf situation with Dr. Ethan in the room. Probably because he would think that we were nuts.

"Fine." Rafer gritted out, looking angry as usual.

Dr. Ethan turned to Jake and I, saying, "You should really get control of that dog."

"We will." Jake replied.

"Don't forget to give them the medication that I prescribed for them."

"We won't, Dr. Ethan." I gave him a small, reassuring smile as Jake nodded at him.

"I will take my leave now." Dr. Ethan bid good bye to us, and we both nodded. He walked towards the door, walking past Rafer, nodding at him who nodded back stiffly.

As soon as he left, Rafer moved into the room as he asked, "What the h*ll is going on? And who in the h*ll brought a stinking dog into our house?"
