Chapter 13: Chapter 13
Terry's pov:
We get to my dad's office and I knock on the door. I hear my dad to tell us to come in. I open the door and noticed Mark's dad, John was there also, who is my dad's Beta. Dad points to the chairs across from his desk. Me and Mark look at each other, with a look of what did we do now on our faces, but we take the seats.
We wait patiently while dad and John finishes with their paper work. My dad finally sits everything aside and looks at me and Mark for a minute before he proceeds to tell us he knows we have a bunch of questions and he will try to answer what he can but first we need to be quiet and listen to what he has to say. We both nod our heads and he proceeds with his story.
“As you know we are wolves from Canada. We came down to the Ozarks after the Great War." He pauses and looks at us to see if we are following him so far. We both nod at the same time to let him know to continue. "You know how the king and queen along with their only heir were killed during that war." Again he pauses and we both nod again to let him know we are still following. "That was the means to an end everything we lycan's, werewolves, and most of the super natural world have known was gone and you can say we have just been existing since then and as you know it has gotten harder for any of us to find mates these days."
He pauses again to make sure we are still following, I mean come on we learned about the Great war in school so why all of a sudden does he need to give us another history lesson. Instead of voicing by opinion on the subject I just nod for him to continue with his story maybe some where he will give me some answers to my questions that have been plaguing me today.
"So some just find someone to mate with just to have pups. But a lot of the pups do not survive they are to weak. See son the mate bond brings two people together the strong and the weak depending what is lacking in the other person. Take me and your mom. Mine is strength but without her I would be out of control she keeps me grounded. Her weakness is her heart she cares too much and I help her to keep her heart from breaking with all the deaths we have be it a pup dying or during a fight we may get into with a rogue. So what I am trying to say is a mate bond makes you complete without it you can go mad. That is why a lot of wolves have gone to the human way of life and finds someone they are compatible with. But they are not compatible with each other that is why you see a lot of them arguing with each other and their pups are weaker cause of it. That war has done away with a lot of wolf ways, so one day we had a sign that a new queen is going to be born. Well we thought she was born when we saw a light on this mountain but as it turns out it was the witch doing her magic. A lot of our pack was tired and hungry when we got here, we lost a lot of them along the way, so we all decided to stay here and to do that he had to go through the witch to get permission for this is her land. She agreed to let us stay on the condition we protect this mountain and her granddaughter.”
He goes silent for a while thinking about the past and what all it has cost him and the pack. While I sit there and think about what he has told me. I really don't know what to say, I knew about the war but I did not know of everything else. They only tell you so much in the history books and truthfully I never asked mom and dad about the war. Don't know why I didn't know they were around; see lycan's can live up to two hundred or more years. I guess when you hear about history you think of it being so far off but I guess this war was closer to them than I realized.
“Does that mean I may not find my mate?” I ask my dad. Which hey that's fine with me right now like I said I am not ready for one which means I do not have to worry on my eighteenth birthday about finding her. But I know when I get older I will want to find my mate and not being able to find her does not sit right with me right now.
I watch my dad as he thinks of this question and how to answer me then he sighs and says “We are not sure son it has been a long time since anyone has felt the pull of a mate bond. I am just afraid if our new queen is not born soon there will be no more werewolves left for her to rule.”
“What about the witch I thought she was a powerful witch can she not do anything to help us” I ask my dad.
“She's is very powerful but she is not powerful enough to go against the moon goddess. See son when they killed the royals they killed the moon goddess daughter and granddaughter. Every queen born is a deity and when she passes she will be the next moon goddess and her chosen mate the king rules by her side. It is said that the king rules the earth while they are alive but when they pass that is when she takes the rule. So needless to say the moon goddess has turned her back on her creation. That war went against everything the moon goddess created for us. She gave us her daughter and they slaughtered her whole family. I can honestly say I would have done the same thing if I was in her shoes.”
“What about Chrystal's grandmother what is she going to do about what happened to her” I asked worriedly. All this time I thought this was our land and come to find out we was just protecting it for Chrystal and her grandmother.
My dad runs his fingers through his hair I can see how stressed he is over this question I have asked. I have never seen my dad stressed about anything he has always had his shit together but now it's like he is lost and don't know what to do.
He finally lets out a long sigh and replies “I don't know son. Her body guard and grandmother will be here in the morning to get her but before they get her we are going to have a meeting with them. So enough for today why don't you boys head upstairs me and John have some work that still needs our attention.”
What about this body guard of hers how come he was not here to protect her like he was supposed to. I guess the witch has trust in my father and I broke that trust by not protecting her granddaughter. With my head down me and Mark head out of my dad's office and go to my room.
