Chapter 1024: Chapter 1024
Cinian didn’t want to waste time explaining further. He immediately activated the Transfer Talisman, taking Bai Peng along with him. The golden light of the teleportation circle illuminated the sky above Futian Town.
Even these seasoned monks were startled by the aggressive ghostly energy in Futian Town. Bai Peng’s lips twitched. He thought it was something major, but it turned out they were just here to catch ghosts.
Although he couldn’t open the Buddha’s Eye like the monks of the Divine Buddha Sect, Bai Peng was sensitive to the shift in aura. Using a talisman, he activated his Yin-Yang Eye, allowing him to clearly see the ghostly energy and the evil spirits in the town. He unsheathed his sword, using the Soul-Destruction Spell.
Since he was already here, killing a few ghosts would at least help him regain some face.
"Lord Bai, hold on!" Cinian stopped him. "The wailing of these ghosts indicates that they must have suffered greatly in their lives. Their resentment is deep. There’s no need to strike them down and deny them any chance of reincarnation."
Bai Peng sheathed his sword and said, "Ghost exorcism is your Divine Buddha Sect’s specialty. I’ll follow your lead."
Cinian began chanting Buddhist scriptures aloud. The other monks, eleven in total, joined in as well.
The sound of their chanting resonated through Futian Town. The ghostly energy was suppressed, and the wails of the spirits began to weaken.
"Well, Cinian, you’re quite impressive!" Bai Peng blinked. "Your exorcism chants really work."
Cinian surveyed the area, his face still serious. "It only temporarily calms the evil spirits."
Shandu spoke up, "Master, these ghosts’ resentments haven’t subsided at all. It seems like they’re hard to exorcise."
"This can wait," Cinian said. "Grand Lady is stuck here, and Ye Yanqin’s life is in danger. We need to find them first."
Hearing this, eleven of the monks dispersed to search. They soared through the air and soon found a symbol array in the main street, with Grand Lady and the others trapped inside.
Cinian rushed to the scene as soon as he received the report, Bai Peng closely following.
The moonlight was dim. Ye Yanqin’s face was hard to see.
Without needing Grand Lady to explain, Cinian immediately understood that Ye Yanqin’s soul had been damaged. He was slightly surprised. "Was this caused by the Soul-Destruction Spell? Whoever did this was ruthless."
Chi Xun swallowed nervously and stepped forward. "It was me..."
Grand Lady explained, "It was an accident. It’s not his fault. Zen Master Cinian, now that you’re here, surely you can repair her soul?"
Cinian reassured them, "Grand Lady, don’t worry. My Divine Buddha Sect has unique Buddhist seals that can be of help in times like these."
He gave the order for Shandu and the others to surround Ye Yanqin and sit cross-legged. They joined their hands in prayer, chanting scriptures.
As the scriptures were chanted, layers of Buddha light emerged, flowing into Ye Yanqin’s body. It stabilized her soul first, and then began to heal it.
Bai Peng casually asked, "How long will it take to repair her soul?"
"At least ten days, maybe twenty," Cinian replied.
Bai Peng’s lips twitched. "You Divine Buddha Sect seem impressive, but your abilities aren’t that great."
Cinian replied, "If I were to personally intervene, it would take three to five days. But with Futian Town full of evil spirits, I must prioritize dealing with them first."
Chi Xun hesitated but then respectfully said, "I’ve heard that Bai family has the Soul-binding Pills. If you give one to Ye Yanqin and combine it with the Buddhist scriptures, she’ll be fully healed in less than three to five days."
Bai Peng glanced at him. "So you’re the one who injured her, and now you want me to provide a pill?"
Chi Xun faltered. "Lord Bai, how many spirit stones do you need? I’ll gather them for you later."
Shen Chong and Wu Dapeng frowned. Cultivation was already difficult for them, and now they had to owe a debt. How could they focus on their practice?
But Cinian’s eyes lit up, and he extended his hand. "You have such a valuable item? Hand it over!"
Bai Peng turned to glare at Cinian. "Old bald head, don’t push it! This pill is precious!"
Although he said this, he still began searching through his Qiankun Bag for the pill.
It seemed that Ye Yanqin had once been a cultivator from Frosty Valley and, by chance, had become Nanli’s disciple. Bai Peng didn’t know if he was doing this out of personal interest or pity, but he didn’t want Ye Yanqin to suffer any lasting consequences at such a young age.
The pill, once consumed, would not only accelerate her soul’s repair but also strengthen her.
But Bai Peng was reluctant to part with it...
Finally, he closed his eyes and threw the pill toward Cinian with a firm hand. "Take it and use it!"
Grand Lady caught the pill with a wide smile. "Thank you, Lord Bai!"
She quickly fed the pill to Ye Yanqin, afraid that Bai Peng might change his mind.
Sure enough, the pill worked wonders. Grand Lady could visibly see Ye Yanqin’s soul starting to heal much more quickly.
"Lord Bai, hahahaha, you’re truly generous!" Cinian gave a respectful Buddhist bow. "Thank you, thank you."
Bai Peng scowled. "I’m only doing this for Nanli’s sake!"
Cinian smiled broadly. "No matter the reason, you’ve given it, and that has created a good karma between us."
Bai Peng waved his hand, dismissing the topic.
He soon regretted following them. If he had stayed out of it, he would have saved that precious pill.
The ghostly energy had become less intense, and the moonlight finally began to shine through.
Bai Peng looked down at Ye Yanqin. With the addition of several layers of Buddha light, he could now make out her face more clearly.
Her nose, her eyes...
Something about her face seemed familiar. He couldn’t help but lean forward, wanting to get a better look.
"Is this..." His pupils shrank as he reached out to adjust Ye Yanqin’s face, brushing aside the hair covering it.
To Grand Lady’s eyes, however, Bai Peng’s actions looked like he was trying to take advantage of the situation.
"What are you doing?!" Grand Lady slapped his hand away.
Bai Peng snapped back to his senses and quickly explained, "I didn’t mean anything by it. I just wanted to see her face clearly."
Grand Lady, understanding Bai Peng’s character, narrowed her eyes sharply, her gaze cutting.
"You Bai family are so obsessed with marriage alliances, are you interested in Qin Qin?"
"I’ll tell you right now, there’s no chance! Qin Qin is a grown woman, and she has a master backing her up. She will never be coerced by your Bai family!"
Bai Peng ignored Grand Lady’s remarks and hastily called Cinian over, his voice trembling. "Cinian, come over here and look! See if she resembles A’Ruan!"
"What?" Cinian was taken aback.
The others were equally stunned.
A’Ruan? Who was that?
Wu Dapeng murmured, "Isn’t that Lord Bai’s lover?"
Shen Chong, surprised, said, "Are you saying Ye Yanqin could be Lord Bai’s illegitimate daughter?"
Chi Xun shot them a glare. "Didn’t I tell you to gather more information or have better memories? Bai’s wife has a character ’Ruan’ in her name!"
The two monks exchanged looks, their eyes widening in realization.
At that moment, Cinian approached, his brow furrowed. Bai Peng’s wife had been in mourning ever since she lost her daughter and rarely left the house.
Cinian had not seen her for some time and couldn’t recall her exact appearance. After all, she wasn’t his family.
Bai Peng’s wife was not known for her striking beauty either.
"Could it be that Ye Yanqin is your third daughter?" Cinian scratched his head awkwardly. "But... but just looking at her , I don’t really remember."
