Chapter 8: Chapter 8
It had been months since Courtney had applied to Yale and Harvard for further studies. She had been sent an admission letter that she's been accepted into Harvard.
Jay had appointed a temporary CEO for his company in LA because he had to start up another business in Massachusetts. She'd been hearing from him frequently.
Anya had decided to stay with her friends Narcia and Myra until they left for college.
She had settled in perfectly with her roommate and new friend Mel.
"See you after school Zara," Myra said as they left the house. Narcia drove them to school as they talked about random stuff.
"So when is the date?" Zhavia asked Anya. "It's tonight." She grinned from ear to ear.
"Do have fun yeah!" Myra added. It had been two weeks since she started attending the same school with her cousin and friends. She hadn't heard anything from her mom or dad. Not that it bothered her but at least a call or text would do. But since they were happy without her so was she.
"Hey, babe!" Narcia added jumping on Zaid's back. "Get your fat ass off me." He added twirling around with her still on his back.
"Sorry to break your fun but some of his actually have the education to get." He started rudely walking off to class.
" Umm, what crawled up his ass and died there?" Narcia added getting off as they walked off to class.
Reign had been moody all day. He hadn't joined them for lunch nor had they seen him after school.
"You guys sure he's alright?" Narcia asked walking to the parking lot with her friends. She'd called his number countless times but he didn't answer.
"He will. I'd pick you up at 8 pm Anya." Zaid added as they headed home.
"Hey, Zara." Narcia greeted. "Hi, baby...where's Anya and Myra?" She asked. "Anya went home to pick a dress and Myra is at Xavier's place." She stated.
"Okay, freshen up and come down for some snacks." Zara winked at her as she climbed up to her room. Narcia tried Reign's phone again for the umpteenth time. What was going on with him? Had something happened? She couldn't help but worry.
Anya wore a white tube top and black tight shorts that stopped at her knees. She paired them with black all-star converse. Her hair was curled by Narcia as she helped her do makeup.
"Zaid won't realize what hit him...you look stunning," Myra added. "Thanks, dear." She said as Zaid's horn blew from downstairs.
"Gotta go." She scrambled down the stairs making sure she didn't trip. Zaid was dumbfounded. She looked pretty. His heart beat rapidly. He couldn't even form proper words as he was struck by her beauty.
"You look wow...just, just wow." He added not getting an adjective to describe how he looked.
"Thanks." She said laughing as Zaid opened the door for her to enter then driving off into the night.
"I'm gonna go catch some fresh air Myra, you wanna come?" Narcia asked her cousin picking up her phone. "Sure, I'm bored by the way," Myra added as she also picked up her phone and hoodie.
"We off for fresh air Zara!" Myra yelled as they headed out. "Do take care" She answered. Narcia and her cousin took a stroll outside talking about random things and remembering their childhood.
"Seems you're worried about something," Myra stated the obvious. "It's Reign, he's not picking my calls and I'm just worried." She said walking on. They hadn't noticed that they had walked a little farther than they intended to. "I think we should go back." Myra reasoned.
"Yeah, you're right," Narcia added as they turned back.
"Hey, love." A voice said behind them. "What do you want?" Myra spat. "Easy there." He said grabbing Narcia's wrist and the other guy pulling on Myra's hoodie
.
"Let go!!" She yelled kicking her legs in the air. Narcia tried removing her hand from his but his grip was too tight. She tried kicking him in the groin but he noticed it and dodged.
"You're hurting me." Myra sobbed.
The tears in her cousin's eyes made her blood boil. She bites the guy who was holding her wrist hands as he yelped in pain letting her go and then proceeded to rescue her cousin by kicking the other attacker in the groin as he left the hood of Myra's jacket.
The girls made a run for it without looking behind them.
Reign and Xavier heard screams down the street and decided to go check it out. They saw two female figures running as fast as they could as they ran to catch up with them.
Xavier tapped Myra on the shoulder startling her and making her scream. "Shhh....we aren't here to harm you," Xavier added. "Xavy?" Narcia called. "Narcia?" Reign called.
"What we're you, girls, doing late outside?" He added. "None of your fucking business Reign, to hell with you. Come on Myra, let's get home." Narcia stated as she took her cousin's arm and started walking off. Reign grabbed the injured wrist of Narcia making her flinch in pain.
"Let me see that." He said pulling the sleeve of the hoodie up to see a nasty purplish bruise forming just as She pulled her hand.
"What do you care about Reign? I've been calling you for God knows how long, you never picked leaving me worried sick about you. I wanted to take a stroll to clear my head and now I hurt my wrist trying to rescue myself and Myra and now you suddenly care?" She asked as hot tears poured down her face.
Myra flinched as Xavier's hands touched her neck. He pulled down the good to see red angry bruises on her neck as the street lights showed. He clenched and unclenched his fists.
"I'm sorry Narcia, I am... I just let some foolish thoughts cloud my judgment about you, and now you girls got hurt because of me." He said sadly.
"Just let us help you girls with the bruises Reign's house isn't far from here," Xavier suggested as the girls agreed and went with them.
"Nora you're still up?" He asked his daughter's nanny. "Kayla was having a hard time falling asleep." She stated.
"My poor baby." He added as he introduced Myra and Narcia to her. Nora climbed upstairs to her room as Reign and Xavier applied first aid to their bruises.
"I enjoyed the night babe." Anya flirted with Zaid as they sat in his car parked outside Narcia's house.
"I did too...Anya babe, will you be my girl?" He asked with his fingers crossed. "Yes, Zaid...I will." She kissed him passionately as Xavier and Reign arrived with the girls.
"Too much PDA," Xavier added knocking on the window of the car making them get out. " Are you girls okay?" Zaid added spotting the bandage on Narcia's wrist and ointment around Myra's neck drawing Anya's attention to it.
Myra explained everything that had happened. Narcia was still in shock. What if something had happened to her cousin? She couldn't bring herself to think about it. She flinched when Zaid touched her making him mad at what those guys had done.
"Thanks, guys, we'd meet at school tomorrow," Narcia said as Reign and Xavier joined Zaid as he drove off and they entered the house locking the door behind them.
What a night! Myra thought to herself as she lay on the bed wide awake.
“Hey, are you still awake?” Narcia asked Myra as she met her in the kitchen.
“Yeah, I couldn’t sleep.” She confessed.
“What’s bugging you?” Narcia asked as they sat on the kitchen stool.
“Its nothing much.” She brushed it off.
“Nope, tell me, Myra. I’m all ears.” Narcia pushed.
“Fine, I was just wondering why my parents decided to take that part in life. Couldn’t they have gotten normal jobs as normal parents did? Couldn’t they have loved me enough as normal parents do? Or I was just a mistake to them?” She lamented.
“Hey, good thing you were adopted now. You have us now. And as for your parents, I think they lost the best thing that ever happened to them. If they saw you as a mistake, then your the sweetest mistake I’ve ever met. Live your life to the fullest Myra, make them feel like they don’t matter to you no more.” Narcia advised.
“You’re right, they weren’t bothered when Jay signed the documents for legal adoption, why then should I bother. They are dead to me.” She said.
“Wait, do you remember me having an older brother?” She asked all of a sudden. Myra had an older brother, Green Reynolds. He was Jay's age mate. But, he disappeared and she didn’t know where he was or what had happened to him.
“Yes I do, his name was Green, but we lost contact with him. We don’t know where he is.” Narcia said.
“I’m pretty sure, it had something to do with our parents.” Myra reasoned.
“Why do you say so?” Narcia asked.
“Because they are capable of anything and besides when I was quite young. I heard them argue with him. Myra told.
“He’s out there somewhere, we would find him someday.” Narcia consoled.
“Maybe Jay could help., Myra said.
“Probably, but right now, we need some sleep. We have school tomorrow.” She said as they climbed up to their room.
