Chapter 68: Chapter 68

We get lucky and there's one crab in the net, he's plenty big enough for us to share and when i bring him back Nicky is quick to thank me and tell me how great I am.

Honestly it feels great hearing her complements. They make me feel more manly and capable, it's totally primal and a little barbaric but hey, we're on a fucking island, alone. I've been stuck here for 10 years I guess I was always gunna go all cave man one day, in some ways i already have.

After we eat breakfast I suggest another walk on the other side of the island where another great spot of mine is and she accepts.

When we get to the real thick part of the bushes and trees she grabs ahold of my hand and let's me pull her along slightly.

When we finally get to the spot, we're both sweating and huffing out air. It was a little bit of a climb but worth the view.

"Woah". Nicky says. Her eyes are wide as she takes in the vast view of the ocean, from up here you could see any ships that pass, unlucky for me I only saw one this whole time. Maybe it's just due to timing, from down at camp you can't see what you do up here. I considered moving camp up here so I could be on the look out but it's just not safe enough, when the tropical storms hit the winds are so fast and hard I'd be blown down.

Nicky and I take a seat near the edge.

"I come up here to see if i can see any ships sometimes." I say.

"And have you?" She asks.

"Just 1." I say.

"Only 1?" She asks shocked.

"Yeah I know, I'm just as pissed. But I can't move camp up here to see anymore so have to resort to coming up when I get a feeling or just once a day I'll walk up here and sit for an hour." I admit.

"It must have been so lonely and scary for you at times." She says while resting her beautiful head on my shoulder. I grab her hand in mine and give it a squeeze.

"It's better now that I have someone here with me, although I know you wish you had of stayed on the ship." I huff a laugh out.

"As weird as it sounds I'm actually having a nice time. I hated my job, I worked for an advertisement company and the boss was a jerk who hired young girls and flirted with them. I only stayed on for the money plus he didn't really stay too interested in me once he realised he wasn't getting anything other than my dedication to work." She says.

That fucker. It makes me irrationally angry hearing that.

"Like I said i didn't have many friends and I was hoping for something new something exciting, just didn't know it was actually going to happen." She laughs.

"You're not scared?" I ask her.

"I was, out in the water. Thinking sharks would get me or I would drown. But when I came too and saw you... and you've taken care of me I just wasn't scared anymore. I mean it's scary to know we're both stuck here but knowing we have each other is comforting." She says.

"Yeah, it is." I say.

We head back down to camp and Nicky said she wanted to look through some of the stuff on the plane. I told her to knock herself out. There was tones of stuff there if she finds something to help her pass the time or make her happy I'm all for it. I sit in the hammock I made and read some more of "Lord of the flies".

After about an hour Nicky comes back out with a huge smile on her face.

"What did you find?" I ask with a smirk, dog earring my page in the book.

"I had one of these as a kid!" She says holding a pole with a tennis ball attached by a string and two bats.

"You put it in the ground and then take turns hitting the ball back and forth." She says.

"Alright, come on let's give it a go." I say taking it from her and placing it in the firmer part of the sand near the water.

"Ok, let's go." I say.

"Just fair warning I'm a something of a champ at this." She says and smirks.

We begin and hit the ball back and forth, laughing and missing the ball at times. We had both taken a fall, nothing serious but we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt. It was so much fun.

"Oh wow that was so much fun!" She says.

"Yeah it was good fun. I forgot about it to be honest, I think I played with one once, when i was a kid so I didn't really know how to play it." I say.

"There's actually heaps of good stuff in there. There's a chess set, books, I found 2 board games and connect four. Oh and battle ship." She says.

"We could play a game tonight after dinner if you like." I suggest.

"Oh yes, please. I haven't played chess in ages, maybe chess?" She asks.

"Anything you want." I say.

Nicky went back to riffling through all the planes contents. She organises them in to seperate boxes and piles. Clothes we could both use to wear and even clothes we could use for other things like using it like a rope or netting.

I had only taken what i needed and went looking for it when I needed it. But she's done such a good job.

By the time she's finished she's sweating and looks red in the face. I get off the hammock and dog ear my page again. I go to the water container and pour her and I a cup of water.

"Aw thank you, Drew." She says while taking the cup and downing it in a few gulps.

"God, I miss ice cubes." She says.

"Ha, I agree. It gets so hot out here, I'm just thankful for the shade the plane provides and the trees." I say drinking the last of my water.

"Do you mind if I go through your little book collection? I found more books and thought we could make a bookshelf, there's some of that flat pack left, we could use that." She says.

"Yeah of course, help yourself. We could put something together after lunch if you like?" I say.
