Chapter 348: Chapter 348

"What do you mean?" The light in Duan Wenhu’s eyes vanished, and the hard-earned smile on her face immediately froze.

"You shouldn’t have touched Sang Ning." Li Juezhou had no intention of explaining anything to Duan Wenhu.

If Sang Ning didn’t have such a strong ability to protect herself, he couldn’t imagine the suffering she might have endured.

Besides, the Li Family had already been tolerant enough of Duan Wenhu. Now that she’s caused a murder case, there’s no way the Li Family can tolerate her anymore.

Li Juezhou rose to leave, not even glancing back.

Duan Wenhu desperately slapped the glass in the back, shouting, "Azhou! Come back! Don’t leave! I’m your aunt! If you don’t help me, are you ready for the Li Family to be mocked—mocked for having a murderer for an aunt?"

Li Juezhou paused his steps for a second but still didn’t turn around. Compared to having a murderer in the family, shielding a murderer would bring much greater shame upon the Li Family.

"Let me out! I don’t want to stay here—I want to leave! Let me leave!" With her last bit of support gone, Duan Wenhu completely fell apart. Struggling against her restraints, she frantically pounded on the glass, trying to shatter its panels and regain her freedom.

But her efforts were destined to be futile. Soon enough, the police behind her restrained her again and dragged her away.

Despite losing the Li Family’s backing, Duan Wenhu had no intention of compromising. The police had yet to present her with any evidence, which meant that Sang Ning’s earlier claims about surveillance footage were evidently a bluff.

Without real evidence, as long as she stuck to her denials, could the police truly convict her by force?

After countless rounds of questioning, Duan Wenhu was utterly exhausted, her whole body drained of energy, her face pale as a corpse. Her mind was muddled, hardly capable of coherent thought, yet she still shook her head instinctively: "No. I didn’t kill Doctor Zhou. No matter how many times you ask, my answer won’t change."

Even the interrogating officers looked troubled. In modern times, they couldn’t use coercion to extract confessions.

Duan Wenhu was a tough nut to crack; getting any truth out of her was incredibly difficult. In the end, the case was handed over to Shen Fang.

After taking over the case, the first thing Shen Fang did was ensure Duan Wenhu rested well and ate properly; if she wanted something to eat, there was nothing that couldn’t be provided.

Although they didn’t resort to physical torture, the interrogating officers had deliberately kept Duan Wenhu mentally unstable every day to erode her willpower. She couldn’t eat enough or sleep well, and within a few days, she had lost ten pounds.

Now that Shen Fang had taken over, aside from her lack of freedom, Duan Wenhu’s days suddenly became quite comfortable. Her food, amenities, and lifestyle all returned to their original standard—even entertainment was arranged. People played mahjong with her, accompanied her in chess games and sports.

Her life suddenly became so pleasant that her mind gradually cleared up. Yet she remained adamant, refusing to confess. She had a hunch that, without evidence, this would end inconclusively.

One leisurely afternoon, just as Duan Wenhu finished enjoying her afternoon tea and started playing mahjong, a new round of questioning arrived unexpectedly.

Duan Wenhu was overjoyed. Since the new officer took over her case, she hadn’t been called in for questioning. Was this sudden summons meant to declare her innocence and release her?

Entering the interrogation room, Duan Wenhu noticed that the atmosphere was quite different from before.

There was no camera, and the lighting in the room was bright, without the oppressive feeling from earlier. Seated at the interrogation table was a strikingly handsome young man flipping through documents—a pleasing sight.

"Well now, not only do you serve me good food and drinks, but you also send in a handsome young chap to chat with me. Honestly, I don’t even want to leave anymore; I feel like settling down here." Duan Wenhu quipped brazenly as she sat down at the table.

Once she was seated, Shen Fang finally lifted his head. After scrutinizing her, he remarked, "Looks like you’ve been doing pretty well recently—gained enough weight to be slaughtered."

Duan Wenhu’s cheerful mood vanished instantly. She had indeed let herself go and completely forgotten about managing her figure. Lowering her head, she noticed several layers of fat gathered around her waist. Her complexion darkened considerably.

"Officer, if you’re here to let me know I can leave, just say it outright. Don’t insult me with your words—I have the right to sue you." When she raised her head again, Duan Wenhu’s tone toward Shen Fang had already changed.

"Leave? Do you think you still have the chance to leave?" Shen Fang suddenly smiled, but his smile was sinister.

Duan Wenhu felt a shiver down her spine, realizing this officer might not be one to mess with.

"Do you still recall what you did to Wen Jiu?" Shen Fang suddenly asked.

Duan Wenhu looked around, verifying there were indeed no cameras in the room. She sneered at Shen Fang, saying, "Of course. So what? Just a clueless little celebrity who tried to bite off more than she could chew. I told people to gang up on her. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. Such a shame."

Shen Fang’s bluntness irritated Duan Wenhu. She began calculating how she could provoke this immature officer.

For cops, nothing frustrates and angers them more than knowing a criminal has committed a crime but being unable to do anything due to lack of evidence, right?

Duan Wenhu’s words were a calculated taunt. Believing Shen Fang lacked evidence of her malicious actions against Wen Jiu, she deliberately spoke crudely and showed no restraint.

Suddenly, a loud "thud" echoed. Before Duan Wenhu could react, a shadow darted across her vision. Moments later, she felt a warm, sticky sensation on her forehead. The smell of iron filled her nose, and she finally realized—she’d been hit by the policeman in front of her. Blood flowed down her forehead, covering half her face and forcing her left eye shut.

Shen Fang casually tossed a mini Wolf Fang Club onto the table. It was smeared with blood. Though it was his favorite toy, he now looked at it with disdain. Google seaʀᴄh 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝⁂𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚⁂𝔫𝔢𝔱

"Allow me to formally introduce myself," Shen Fang said coldly. "I’m the officer taking over your case. My name is Shen Fang. Besides being a police officer, I’m also the boyfriend of the clueless little celebrity Wen Jiu you mentioned."

Shen Fang pulled at his collar, rage etched across his face.

Duan Wenhu froze, staring blankly at Shen Fang. His icy tone continued, "I have one principle: I never hit women. But you—dammit—you don’t even qualify as a person!"

By the end of his statement, Shen Fang’s voice grew furious, resembling the roar of a savage beast. Duan Wenhu instinctively trembled a few times, suddenly overcome with fear. She stammered, "O-Officer... Are you trying to use private justice on me? That’s illegal—you have no right to do this!"
