Chapter 67: Chapter 67

“So…” Auger clasped his hands together, looking at us with imperil in his eyes. He slowly squat so he could even his face to Ethan. My husband growled, thirsting to reach Auger’s face so he could gash it into pieces. Before he could take a hold on him, I raised my upper body then block my body, ceasing him from his thought.

Ethan was screeching like a savage he is, letting out an animalistic rumble. He was prepared to alter if it weren’t for me halting him. I know how mad he is right now, and his emotions are acceptable. However, I can’t afford him to do anything heedless. He needs to calm down first!

“Ethan! Please!”

It seems like he couldn’t hear me, nor he doesn’t notice me at all. My voice was hoarse from screaming, and begging for him to stop. I know it pains him to endure like this. I know how hard for him to accept this. The only hope we have was taken away from us with just a snap of Auger’s finger. All of our endeavor was thrown away.

I hugged him tightly while weeping in tears. My heart was throbbing painfully from the damage. Words can not describe how fuck up everything is.

“E-ethan…” I sank my aspect on his fur chest. He completely changed into a beast in front of the authorities. Auger wasn’t faze to see him with his transformation. His eyes remained void while hundreds of bodies around us are unconscious. I just hope they are still alive since Ethan warned them long enough before the explosion.

We were just shaken from the discharge.

“How about this? We’ll take you Ethan, and your wife among with other people here will live. Or, if you escape with them, all of you will die, including the next generation of your family if one of you lives.” Auger wagered, his eyes were intently looking at us for an answer.

“No! I will not let you take Ethan away from me! You’re only making everything worst, Auger!” I screamed then faced him. Ethan manage to calm down but he haven’t shrunk yet to his true form. I could hear his profound breath behind, his chest was hitting my back.

Auger did not say anything for a minute. Instead, he slowly stood up then towered over us. I look up from my position, chewing my inner cheeks from the pressure that’s subsiding my whole system. His men suddenly aimed their guns at us, cocking their magazines. I gasped, my eyes widening in fear when Ethan took my arm then pulls me behind him. He was shielding himself.

“Ethan-”

“That is Sir Auger for you, young lady.” he said darkly. He turned on his heel. I thought he was going to do something when he hang his head low. He was looking at something. I followed his gaze, and my whole body went solid as a rock when he I saw he was stepping on Harry’s arms. Tears were forming in the corners of my eyes, pushing to pour down when Auger took out a gun.

“Making everything worst, you say? Are you hearing yourself, woman? People are dying in this country. Thousands…no, millions of criminals out there are roaming free without getting the judicature those who endure under their hands. People are getting assassinate for wealth. Some are getting rob. Others are sacrificing themselves so they could protect their people…”

Auger slowly glanced at us from his bear. His eyes glinted when he locked his attention on me. I swallowed the lump that is blocking my throat because I felt like I did a dreadful transgression.

“And you have the boldness to say that I am only worsening everything contempt of what I did for this country? Do you have any content what I forfeit before I reach this position?”

Silence occupied the whole area, and Auger took that chance to continue his speech.

“I trained for years, non-stop, thinking that if I would have earn the sterling physical ability, no one could stand in my way. My family derelict me just because I was debilitated when I was born. They thought I wouldn’t survive so they threw me. I was adopted by a sweet old lady…”

He stop for a second, contemplating but he continued.

“...who died when a runner stab her on her chest, repeatedly, and it’s all because she went out to buy my favorite pudding. I was forced live alone, working for years, until someone adopt me again. I thought my sufferings would end there when our house got robbed, and killed all of my family, and I was the only one who survived because my foster father hid me inside the closet.”

“I have thought of ending my own life when someone gave me a reason to live once again. She halt me when I was about to end everything. She take heed to my hurler. She was the opposite of me. She was caring, and endearing. She was…my everything.”

Auger close his eyes firmly while reminiscing to his past. I notice he clenched his jaw, while grasping his hands tightly. He was shaking, and we couldn’t do anything to watch him.

“Until that faithful day…she was kidnapped without my notice, and found the next day in the river. Of course, she’s dead…and what’s worst?”

He inhaled sharply, sucking a massive amount of air before staring at nowhere. The wind current sweep on our faces, fondling against our skin.

“Her clothes aren’t with her.”

I covered my mouth, and that’s when my tears falls boundlessly. Ethan was also stunned behind me, incapable to say a word. His men didn’t waver. Their guns are still pointing at us, but I could see in their eyes that their leader’s story bump them.

“That’s why I disdain those who finds putting to death amusing. That’s why I vowed to myself that I am going to wipe out ever condemnable out their in this country. To put all those innocent lives that were taken away to justice.”

Auger glances at us, and his eyes traveled down on my feature.

“You have a bright future ahead of you, Natasha. There’s a lot of things that you can do. I don’t want to kill you, and the others, just because of that pitiful beast behind you.” his eyes constricted, giving me a final warning.

“Just give him to us, and we will let you live.”

I was left staring at him with eyes wide open, and lips parted. Auger was giving me a choice. A choice that could benefit either of us. Auger crosses the distanced between us, and I lifted my chin so I could look at him. When our eyes locked, Auger raised his hand so he could brush his palm against my cheeks.

“You have to choose. Your life, or his?” he whispered, bending his knee so he could reach my confront. On condition that my vision abruptly spin while gawking right through his soul. All of a sudden I don’t know what to think. It’s like he’s hypnotizing me to agree with his term.

“Time is running, Natasha.” he mumbled, tilting his head to his right. Everything was fading around us, and the only person I could see was Auger. He’s like pulling me into another dimension. I blink, and when I was about to speak Ethan hovered over Auger, staggering an attack.

“Ethan!” I stretch my arm, and I was finally back to my senses. Ethan did a foolhardy move, again. I was aghast that Auger’s men would shoot him but they stay on their spot. Their guns are aiming but they haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I was wondering why when I stave off my eyes again in front, and saw that Ethan was lying on the ground.

“Ethan!” I screamed, fearing for his life. Auger was stepping on his chest, while his gun was pointing at his head. My visual sense become blurry from the tears.

“Auger! Please! No!” I run up at him but one of his men pulled the trigger, shooting on the ground where I was about to take a step. My heart pound loudly, frightened for my life.

“You’re a fool, Natasha. You only have one choice of settling yourself free from this moron who only brought nothing but pain in your life.”

He cocks the gun, aiming to tug the trigger when I screamed at the top of my lungs. My voice vibrated throughout the whole zone, and I felt the ground beneath us shook down on its core. Auger stopped, and  felt his threatening gaze penetrating.

I drop on my knees while clasping my hands into a praying demeanour. My eyes were shut tight. My whole body was quivering in fright. Chills were sliding down my spine. I was begging to be heard when they finally turned their attention on my way.

“YES! I am a fool for loving a hideous beast like him! Yes! I am stupid! Imbecile! Pathetic! Good for nothing freak who only screams, and cry. Do you hear me?! I am nothing without Ethan by my side!”

Drawn-out silence occupied the field. I felt my hair was blown away because of the sudden change of air current.

“I am weak without Ethan! I am useless without Ethan! I am worthless without Ethan! And most of all, I would be dead without Ethan!”

Please, hear me. Please, listen to my words.

“Ethan have save my life, countless times! He sacrificed himself, countless times, just to protect me! Our child, unborn child, was taken away from me because of bad guys who surrounded us! If Ethan wasn’t there, I wouldn’t be here screaming like a madman so you could give my husband a second chance!”

“I know…I know Ethan had killed people before. But...is it his fault if he was neglected, and treated like garbage just because of his curse? Is it his fault that his own family made him think he’s a monster?”

I slowly raised my head up so I could look at Auger in the eyes. However, my breathing hitched, and my whole body froze when I saw the mouth of the gun pointing at my forehead. My eyes almost knitted while looking at the gun’s hole leaning closely. One pull, and I will be a goner.

“You lost me when you remark he already killed masses.”

My voice did not reach him. My words was not perceive. Everything will lead into nothing.

It’s over.

We lost.

“I'll kill you first then take your husband.”

“Good bye, Natasha-”

Before Auger could even finish his sentence a catastrophic horn blasted throughout the whole area. My body jerked, and notice that Auger was swanning his eyes to see where the noise is coming from. It was followed by a gunshot. One of his men drop on the ground, limping in torment.

“I-it’s not yet over.”

My pupils increased, and my heart lost its rhythm of beating when I glanced beside me to see Harry was awake. His body was shaking, but he’s pushing himself to stand up. I observe he was holding something.

It was his phone.

“There’s always a Plan B for every fuck up situation like this.”

My heart was clapping in glee when our eyes fixed together. I can’t believe it. I feel like I am going to passed out. The blew of horns roared again, and this time I was certain what it is.

It’s a ship.

Auger’s brows furrowed into a straight line when he saw the ship was taking its landing at the end of the aiming point. Auger’s face turned nitid ruby, fuming from the situation that flipped.

“FORCES! TAKE YOUR-”

Auger was pushed on the ground when Ethan bump him with force. He step on his back then took my hand, taking a dash away.

“Everyone! Protect Natasha, and Ethan at all cost! They have to make it to the ship!” Harry waved his hand, motioning his guards. Harry was trailing us, making sure that the authorities wouldn’t reach us.

“Harry! Y-you’re-”

“Yeah, I’m alive.” he state while shooting with his gun.

“But-” he jumped in.

“What? My plane? Don’t worry, Natasha….” he playfully wink at me while he’s covered with bruises.

“I am not tagged as the most compelling, and affluent individual in this world for nothing.”
