Chapter 55: Chapter 55
"Oh, Harry." I inhaled sharply as I looked him straight in the eyes while he was lost in his thoughts. I understand him and the pain he felt for his friend who died for us. It was tragic and traumatizing, but then we couldn't do anything about it right now. Even if we desire retaliation, that will fuel the already blazing area.
"I want to kill them all…" he lowered his vision to the floor, clenching his hands into a balled fist. I placed my hand above his hand and then stroked his knuckles gently with my thumb. He needs to calm down. Getting aggravated won't lead us anywhere. I don't want to stop him from feeling what his emotions are telling him now. He can let the sentiments flow in his system if he's mad, sad, or mixed.
"However, Harry, you can't. I know how we both respect Steve, but please, this isn't what he wants." I tried to calm him down, motioning him to do the breathing method. Harry's hands were trembling drastically, but I hushed him down to keep him calm. The technique lasted for a few minutes. He sighed in relief, embarrassed to look me in the eyes because I saw how he had lost his composure.
I stroke his cheeks, giving him a reassuring smile before peeking below to see Ethan climbing up. I was about to stretch my hand when Harry scooped me a little to the side, and he did the honor.
"Take my hand!" he yelled at the top of his lungs as he anticipated for Ethan to reach the top. Ethan shifted back to his normal body, and I could see he was struggling to ascent since his shoulders were wounded. The Helicopter moved at the atmosphere, away from that field so we wouldn't gain any more attention coming from Allen's side.
"Ethan! You're almost there, honey!" I encourage him as I scream. My ears were ringing because of the Helicopter's blade that was gliding. Harry almost peeked out half of his body just so he could help Ethan to reach us.
"Almost there-"
I heard a loud shot that echoed throughout the whole region. It was as if everything around us had stopped moving. I gradually looked towards our right side to see another helicopter chasing us. I narrowed my eyes to see who they were, and an unfamiliar face was caught. At least four persons inside the Helicopter are trailing, and one wears a different uniform. Its eyes stared directly in my direction, making my whole body shiver.
My lungs had stop functioning as I couldn't breathe properly. I anxiously tapped on Harry's shoulder so he could see where I was looking. The moment he turned his attention their way, we heard another gunshot. This time, it almost hit Ethan.
"Oh, shit!" Harry pushed me inside when everything went back to its normal speed. I drop to the ground, wincing in pain. Harry moved me to the farther side of the Helicopter where the gunshots wouldn't hit me.
"Stay there! I will help Ethan!" Harry demanded as he returned to the edge of the ladder and then kneeled on the ground. He wraps his arms around the beside him tightly.
They just couldn't stop chasing us! My eardrum vibrated when another series of gunshots echoed throughout the whole zone. This time, I saw how Harry's eyes widened and panicked, causing my stomach to twist and turn at every angle. My heart drummed loudly against my chest as I attempted to run straight their way when the Helicopter agitated, causing me to lose my balance.
"Ms. Natasha! Hold on! They are firing the engine!"
My eyes widened in horror when I glanced at the operator struggling to balance the Helicopter in the air. I tried to find something to hold on to when the whole chopper motion again, and this time my body slid unto the edge of the door. I screamed in panic as I thought I would fall off the chopper when Harry caught my arm and pulled me back again inside with all his strength. I grab onto the next handle and look down to see Ethan wincing in pain while holding on to the ladder rope. He couldn't climb up because the Helicopter kept on moving!
"Andrei! Balance this shit!"
"Sir! I am trying! But one of the transmission fuels has been shot! And they are now aiming for the tall rotor!"
Harry cursed successively as we both looked at the Helicopter's tail. Its end is perforated, and there is liquid pouring out. Suddenly my chest tightened when I heard another gunshot, which hit the rope this time.
"Ethan!" I tried to reach his hand to help him pull up when Harry stopped me.
"You can't peek your head, Natasha! You might get shot!"
"But we can't let Ethan down there!" I argued back, throwing my hands in the air with exasperation.
Harry was about to say something when I didn't listen to him, and I stretched out my hand, leaning my body closer to Ethan so he could reach me. Ethan looks up while gritting his teeth in torment. I gestured my head for him to get my fingers. He raised his wounded arm, and even if it was shaking from the pain, he pushed himself to extend my fingers. I parted my lips, catching some oxygen because the tension was causing me to hyperventilate.
"Almost there…"
I closed my eyes, groaning as I was about to reach his hand when Harry yelled, and this time I heard something snap.
"Natasha!"
Before I could finally reach Ethan's hand, the rope suddenly snapped, and in a flash, I just saw Ethan slowly fall as my hand caught his. Time had abruptly drawn out as I watched him fall. The height is high, and his downfall can kill him! A tear escaped from my eyes when Ethan shifted into his werewolf form as he crashed in the middle of the woods, scaring all the birds away. Time suddenly returned to normal when I felt someone shaking my shoulder.
"Don't worry, we'll find him. He's alive, okay? Just breath."
I didn't realize that I was having an asthma attack and couldn't breathe because of crying too much. Harry ordered his men to lower the Helicopter so we could search the woods below.
"He'll be fine, I promise you. Your husband is strong." Harry cupped my cheeks while I stared out of nowhere when my eyes caught something. I saw the other chopper chasing us slowly lowered their vehicle on land while four troupes jumped out of it using a rope.
"Harry…" I was lost of breath when I slowly pointed my finger toward the other chopper already on the land as they were heading their way straight in the middle of the woods.
Harry fished something in his pocket as he tried to dial someone. He must be going to call for backup. I slowly stood up from my spot, looking down from the ground where Ethan had landed earlier. The height made me a little dizzy as I attempted to look down. Those troupes no longer care about us since all they are chasing is my husband.
"We can't go down there until back up comes here. We need to stay by air because they might attack us. We don't have a gun here." Harry explained to me, but everything around me faded, and I couldn't hear anything as I slowly looked down below, measuring the distance of the height. My vision was spinning, and I felt like I was about to vomit when Harry snapped me back to reality.
"Natasha, get out of there! You might fall!"
I didn't listen to what he said. I stood there, contemplating. Harry's brows furrowed in a straight line, puzzled while eyeing me suspiciously. However, the moment he realized something, he slowly stood up straight, calmly raising his hands.
"Natasha, don't you dare…."
My lips pursed as my vision blurred from the tears when I shook my head.
"H-he needs me…." I mumbled, taking a step back.
"Natasha, listen to me! What you are about to do is not safe! They will kill you if you interfere!"
"And let them take my husband away?!" I shouted, which made him speechless.
"Harry, thank you for helping us, and I appreciate it all, but please, let me do this," I emphasize as I take each step back at each word. Harry massaged his temples as if he was having a migraine. He looks stressed and all but…
"I am sorry, but we can't stay here and wait for him to get killed."
"Natasha-"
Before he could even finish what he was about to say, I let my body fall off the chopper. It was as if my soul had left my body when I watched how the Helicopter got smaller and smaller from my sight. Harry was yelling something while sticking his head out, but I couldn't hear a thing. He was already far away. I closed my eyes and smiled to myself. I did a crazy thing, Ethan. I know you will get mad at me, but I couldn't stand watching you get killed.
I have to do something for him. I opened my eyes, and simultaneously, my body hit something creating a loud thud. Dust exploded all over the area, blinding my sight. I groaned and winced in pain when I felt a hard object underneath me. I tried to move my muscles and arms, but everything was numb. It's like my whole body went paralyzing. I couldn't even open my eyes because everything was spinning.
I heard footsteps approaching my way. However, I was dozing off from the impact. I took a glimpse one last time and saw a silhouette in front, and before I knew it, everything went dark.
