Chapter 28: Chapter 28

"Hey, how are you?"

I sat on the edge, grabbing his hand. I beamed warmly, even though I knew I wouldn't get an answer from him. I raised my hand, stroking his hair to the side to see his fine-looking features. This man never failed to amaze me with his confront. His long lashes were enough to attract any woman. I played with it, hoping he would wake up and stop me since he hated it when I made fun of his lashes, but nothing happened.

I sighed in defeat, biting my tongue to stop my emotions from bursting out. I placed his hands above my chest, where my heart was beating. I breathed in, letting the oxygen go through my lungs.

"I'm sorry for leading you into this situation, my love," I whispered, stroking his chest.

"I didn't want this to happen, believe me. I just wanted to help you, to give us another chance to live and have normal lives."

I closed my eyes, "I have no idea how it led you into this. I didn't realize you were seriously injured in your brain. They explained how it affected your nerves, but I was so preoccupied to listen because my heart shattered into pieces when I heard the news. No wonder you couldn't keep up any longer because your head was excruciating at that time. I'm so sorry, love. I just wanted to have a life with you. I don't want to let them take you away from me."

I wrapped my arms around his body, biting my lips. I shook my head since my tears suddenly fell off. I noticed I had been crying for the past few days, and I knew it wouldn't help him recover. All I need is to talk with him so he could hear me.

"Stay there and rest, but not too long since you will make me troubled sick. Just fight it for me, love. Okay? You're a strong man, and you can handle anything. We could still build a family together. We could still have a normal life, away from those monsters that wanted to kill you and get me."

I clenched my hand into a balled fist. Ethan should have eliminated Allen, but I know that's a severe crime since he's a Sergeant. Probably all forces around the world would go and look for him. I can't risk that.

"But they told me you're slowly healing and might wake up soon. I hope what they said is true, and I hold on to that. If you're worried about Bobby and me. We're fine, okay? There's a man here who let us stay here in his house. He's kind and very down-to-earth. I know you two would get along when you wake up and see him."

I raised my face, leaning closer so I could leave a soft kiss on his lips. It was empty when he didn't kiss me back like he used to. I was not used to it. I close my eyes firmly before taking a step back. I just hope he wouldn't hear me crying. It would make him upset if he knew I was crying because of him. He might not open his eyes anymore, and it frightened me a lot.

I wiped off the tears on my cheeks and was about to leave the room when the door opened, and Harry appeared.

"Hey," he said, leaning on the door frame while crossing his arms.

"Hi." I smiled, looking at Ethan behind me one last time before getting out of the room.

Harry closed the door behind him, and we stood there, waiting for each other who was going to speak first. Harry scratched the back of his neck, and I saw his cheeks were a bit red. Is he embarrassed? But why?

"I may or may not have heard what you are saying to your husband."

I suddenly recalled what my choice of words was. Good thing I didn't say anything about the authorities. Harry might find it suspicious. I will tell him soon if I observe that Harry is trustworthy to tell confidential things like this. I'm still having doubts if I should trust him fully. I smiled at him, saying it was okay and not a big deal.

I turned my back on him and was about to return to my room when Harry stopped me. He held my elbow, looking directly at my eyes. His face was so close, and he noticed our gap. Harry suddenly let go of me, looking away. His hair was covering his eyes.

"I noticed that you're always down this past few days. I was wondering if you wanted to breathe some fresh air?"

I raised a brow, tilting my head to the side.

"You mean, go outside the house or…?"

"I mean, you know, go out as in away from the house-"

"No!" I suddenly shouted, and it was too late to realize I had raised my voice.

I covered my mouth, eyes widening in stupefaction. Even Harry was too stunned to speak. My face becomes red from the shame. I turned around, biting my lower lip.

"I-I'm sorry, I-I just can't," I told him before running away towards my room. When I reached the door, I locked it.

I leaned my body on the door, slowly sinking to the ground. I mentally slapped myself. Can the ground beneath just open a dimension and throw me out somewhere? That was so pathetic of you, Natasha. Harry just wanted to help you, but you blew it. Much worst, he might find it questionable I reacted that way. He might call the police-

I shook my head. Enough of this negativity, Natasha. Enjoy your stay here while it lasts. Don't ruin it while your husband is recovering. I sighed in defeat, walking towards the bed. I lay down there, looking straight at the chandelier hanging.

Come to think of it, I haven't asked Harry what's his life here. Not that I much care about it. The house was enormous, and I hadn't toured the place. I was scared to go down because someone might recognize our faces. I was glad that Harry doesn't remember us or have a clue we're probably one of the most wanted criminals.

I didn't realize I had dozed off, and it was already night. I frowned, stretching my body. I was glad somehow I recovered from the injuries and wounds thanks to Harry's help. My stomach grumbled, telling me she was already starving. I forgot to eat lunch earlier because of my embarrassment after yelling at Harry.

I got out of the bed, stretching my arms. I inhaled the sweet scent of the air conditioner before leaving the room. I slowly twisted the door knob looking at the hallway to see no one was there. I carefully closed the door, heading straight down to the kitchen.

Harry told me to just press the buzzer inside my room, and a maid would automatically deliver the food I wanted. However, that is not the case here. I don't want to act like I am a queen here. I can still walk, which is a bit troublesome for the workers here.

When I finally reached the stairs, I peeked down and saw the lights were turned on, and I heard clanks of plates, sweeping of broom, and heavy footsteps. They must have been cleaning out the area since it was already night. I had second doubts about going down, but I was famished and could clean my own plate.

I sighed, stepping down the stairs. When I reached the marbled ground floor, one maid sweeping the flooring looked at me and smiled.

"Hello, Madame. You're finally awake. Sir Harry told us that you must eat dinner now since you have been sleeping all day."

The maid went to my side, smiling warmly. She let go of the broom she was holding, guiding me towards the kitchen.

"Ah…may I ask? Where's Harry?" I looked around the whole living room and noticed he was not there.

"Oh, sir, went out with his girlfriend." the maid said when we went to the kitchen. When we got there, I saw other maids were cleaning the area. They all looked at me and gave me this heartwarming smile that felt like you were welcome inside the house.

"He has a girlfriend?" I asked, actually surprised. Well, I don't know him that much. I sat on the chair, and a portion of food was suddenly placed on the table, serving me. I said my thanks, smiling shyly before eating.

"Why, ma'am? Do you think sir Harry doesn't have one? Girls were head over heels for him. Can't you see how handsome he is?" the maid scoffed in disappointment, and I chuckled.

"Well, I agree with your statement there." was all I said.

"Why? Don't you like him, Ma'am? You two would be perfect for each other-"

I suddenly coughed, almost spitting out everything. Good thing I covered my mouth with my palms while the maid stroke my back carefully.

"I have a h-husband." I said, closing my eyes since the food came out of my nose. I cursed mentally to myself.

"OH! Oh… I'm sorry, I thought-"

"It's okay." I smiled at her. She probably didn't see Ethan when we got here. I don't know how they manage to drag us all the way to the room upstairs since this place is so huge.

"Sir is here."

We all looked in the hallway and saw a man standing there, announcing that Harry had finally arrived home. The maids all rushed towards the living room to greet him until I was left alone here. I finished my food peacefully and then cleaned my own plate. After that, I went straight to the living room to go upstairs when I saw what was happening.

"Sir Harry's drunk." a maid suddenly exclaimed when she saw me.
