Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Rodrigo drove into the mansion, he held the vehicle steering for a while after he had turned off the ignitions of the vehicle before stepping out of it to see Lucio already standing outside waiting for him with a cigarette in his mouth. He looked like he just got off the phone with someone.

Lucio walked back into the mansion straight to his study as soon as Rodrigo came down from the car while Rodrigo followed behind him, he closed the door behind him too after walking into his study.

“What happened?” Lucio asked, taking note of the expression on Rodrigo’s face, he could tell something was wrong with him the moment he saw him hold on to the car steering the way he did after parking the car outside.

“It’s Camilla.” He answered and shook his head a little frantically, not knowing how to break the news about what had happened to Lucio who was peering hard at him, trying not to lose control of his temper as he was impatient with Rodrigo’s reluctant to tell him what the matter was.

“What about her? Did you scare her like I asked you to?” Lucio asked again, still peering hard at Rodrigo, who tightened his jaw muscles and prepared his mind to speak up seeing the way Lucio peered at him.

“Boss, there has been an accident, and I think Camilla is dead.” Rodrigo said, his eyes fixed on the floor as he could not bring himself to look into Lucio’s face.

“What did you just say?” Lucio asked, his jaw dropped and his brows furrowed more as what Rodrigo said replayed in his head.

“Boss, I said that Camilla is dead…” Rodrigo repeated what he had just said, lifting his gaze a little so that he could peek at Lucio from under his lashes, he could sense the man’s disappointment in his question just now.

“What do you mean by she is dead… what happened, I told you to scare her not to kill her.” Lucio said, standing up from his chair, feeling a sharp ache in his chest all of a sudden, and shortly afterwards it felt like his heart was tightening making him find it a little difficult to breath.

“Yes boss I know that I was only supposed to scare her but before I could come down from my car after I reached her hotel, I saw Camilla driving out from the hotel so I followed her instead, I think she was heading to the airport, and I guess she noticed that she was being followed because she suddenly increased the speed of her care which led to her car crashing.” Rodrigo explained looking up at Lucio who slowly started pacing up and down the study, and robbing his head with his left palm at the same time.

“Did you check properly before leaving?” Lucio paused to ask Rodrigo, brushing his both hands against his hair.

“Yes boss, no one can possibly survive such an accident.” Rodrigo answered, shaking his head slightly, he is in shock himself because he had witnessed the accident first hand and this was not like anything he had seen before.

Despite the fact that he works for Lucio, he had loved Camilla, because back then when she lived together with Lucio, she had been good to all of Lucio’s friends and workers including him, he had agreed to give her a scare, but he never planned on doing so without a mask on to hide his face from her, knowing how disappointed she would be if she saw him. “I am sorry boss.” Rodrigo said as he slowly stood up and left the study, leaving Lucio who looked dumbfounded by himself.

Lucio sat down on his chair and stared into space. He had wanted Rodrigo to scare Camilla to stop her from making any move to get Lora back, he had hated her but not enough to kill her. The thought of Camilla being dead brought a cold chill on his body, he brushed his hand against his head and bit his lower lip.

“Fuck, what have I done?” he muttered as he slammed his both hands on the table. He folded his palms into fist on the table, feeling very angry as his thought drifted to Lora. “Shit.” He cursed inwardly this time and started walking towards the door, heading out of his study not knowing how to contain his anger, while Rodrigo slowly followed behind him wishing that he could change what had happened to Camilla especially as he saw how Lucio was hurting because of it.

Dario a man in his early fifties and his wife Elena who is in her late forties were driving home from the airport, they have gone on a three weeks’ vacation away from their three children to have some alone time together.

They were chatting happily with each other and were excited about reuniting with their kids when Elena thought she saw a body lying lifeless on the other side of the road.

“Is that a body on the road?” Elena muttered, enough for her husband Dario to hear him, her pupils enlarged too as she peered at the body to make sure that was what she saw.
