Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Michael arrived at the bar before George who came in shortly after wards. They both greeted each other and ordered for a drink each.
After a brief pleasantry and conversation about school, George decided it was time to ask Michael what his reason was for asking to see him.
There drinks arrived shortly afterwards before George could ask him about his reason for calling him, and they opened it almost immediately.
“Mike, you do not seem alright, tell me what the matter is?” George asked sipping his beer, his gaze on Michael.
Michael shook his head after a long sip from his bottle and said “it is not that bad George, but I am not alright.” He said and then took another sip and turned to his gaze on George, as they were sitting opposite each other. He was thinking of a way to tell George about his trouble without looking or sounding silly.
“What is it Mike?” George asked taking another sip from his bottle while gazing at him, he could sense his nervousness too and wondered what the problem was exactly.
“Well it’s Brenda.” Michael said quickly after a short pause, he needed to get it out of his chest.
“What about Brenda?” George asked looking so puzzled. He had expected something more important than a girl issue when he rushed down to the bar after Michael had told him over the phone that he wants to speak with him urgently.
“Well it’s nothing really,” Michael told him, trying to make light of his trouble, “I just want you to give me her address.” Michael said not sure if he had made the right decision to discuss the issue in his relationship with George giving the expression on George’s face.
“Brenda’s address?” George asked, sounding puzzled as he peered at Michael’s face. “Tell me that this is not true,” he added, still peering at him.
“Yes it is true, George… the thing is, I think she is avoiding me, you know I have been calling her for some days now and she would tell me she was coming to my apartment to meet me but she never showed up, and this is unlike her and I don’t know if I have done something wrong to her you see, that is the reason I called you here because I need your help.” Michael said almost pleadingly, feeling a little relieved now that he had explained to George and hoped now that he was going to be able to help him.
“Let me understand this, you mean you two have been seeing each other for some weeks now, and you don’t know where she leaves?” George asked sounding surprised at Michael who just nodded his head and took a sip from his bottle of beer, feeling rather ashamed now that George asked about it.
“If her address was what you wanted from me then, you should have just told me over the phone if I have Brenda’s address instead of making me rush down here thinking the worst.” George told Michael wondering why he did not ask him right away.
“I am sorry man, I needed to talk to someone you know and you are the only one I could call,” Michael replied, his brows lifted a little at him.
George shook his head in amazement after hearing him speak, taking note of his facial expression, he think that Michael is in love with Brenda, “what actually happened, I mean did something happen to make her change her mind from seeing you?” he asked looking at Michael who shook his head too.
“Nothing happened man, we have been meeting each other at my place after that date we had, not until one evening when she called me to say she will not be going to my place because she was going to a party with some old friends.” Michael replied.
“That’s it?” George asked and Michael nodded in acknowledgment. “Hmm, I think she has met someone new or she has hooked up with an old boyfriend.” George said after a short pause. He had thought it through and had weighed the reasons that could have made her act that way.
“You think so?” Michael asked after a long pause, his heart suddenly racing inside of him as peered at George who nods his head in agreement, while he sipped his beer. “Oh…” Michael muttered, robbing his palm against his chest as he felt it tightening a little after George suggested that she could have someone else.
“Now you look at this, you two did not fight with each other, am I right?” George asked Michael who nodded again in responds to the question as he was unable to speak a word at the moment, wondering if what George has said was true.
“She stopped seeing you after the supposed party with her friends’ right?” George asked again, peering at Michael, still taking note of his reaction to what he was saying to him.
Michael nodded again in response still staring at George, hoping that he could tell him another reason behind Brenda’s behavior.
“Well I think it is time for you to move on man, she has found another guy to play with.” George said sipping his beer.
“What do you mean by that?” Michael muttered, enough for George to hear him, feeling unable to believe his ears as he thinks George had come to a conclusion. He came here to ask for his help but instead, he is telling him it is over between him and Brenda, Michael thought.
“What rubbish are you talking about? He asked in a husky tone, still peering at George and trying to control the anger he feels because of what he just said.
“It’s the truth Mike, what do you expect from a girl like Brenda in the first place, a happy ending?” George asked looking at Michael who ignored the question.
“Stop it and tell me where I can find her George that was the reason why I called you here.” Michael said almost immediately, raising his tone a little and getting the attention of some of the persons seated closer to them in the bar, they looked away almost immediately, turning their attentions back to what they were doing.
“I do not know her address if that’s what you want from me, I only met her a few times in a party and I thought what a good present she would be for you, so I hooked you guys up, I never knew things would turn out this way between you two.” George said shrouding his shoulders. He did not like the fact that Michael was falling for her and was acting like this over her.
“Excuse me, you mean you do not know her that well and you hooked us up, I thought you knew each other, I mean I have seen the way you both talk to each other, it was like you were friends with each other.” Michael said sounding a bit frantic after he heard that he does not know her house.
“You are the one screwing her, it was your duty to know more about her, like her address and all the necessary details not me.” George snapped in a low but deep tone, getting irritated by his reaction, “what do you except from a girl who agreed to screw a man she does not know well for a birthday present and how can you fall for her of all the girls in this city?” George added, doing his best to keep his tone down.
“You should not have hooked us up then,” Michael said in a low tone too even though he was mad at George right now, shaking his head too as he wished that he was not hooked up with her now after what George said, he did not once think of Brenda that way and was ready to make her his girlfriend.
George shook his head too, feeling angry at Michael for falling for her so easily, he thought he was only having a wonderful time with her. They both stared at each other briefly, “f*ck!” Michael cursed out loud, unconsciously beating the table with his right hand, unable to contain his emotion as he processed the whole thing with Brenda in his head.
He picked up his bottle of beer and sipped from it, ignoring the eyes of the people in the bar that turned in his direction again.
“Look Mike I just wanted you to have fun, nothing serious or personal you see, I just met the lady a couple of times in a party and decided she was a good choice to make you have fun a little, I didn’t know it would come to this, that you would fall for her.” George said after a short pause.
“I haven’t fallen for her George.” Michael retorted in a low tone as he wanted to avoid the stare from the people in the bar again, hating George’s insinuation even when he thought it could be true. “I am only not okay with the way this thing between us was ending, so I wanted to know what her reason was, that’s all.” He added peering angrily at George who peered back at him, puzzled that he would be like this because a woman. He did not seem to have the time for women before and wondered what has gotten into him and if Brenda cast a spell on him or something or could it be that she was getting tired of the way Michael was around her, he thought, trying to think of other possible reason why she would stop seeing Michael the way she did.
”Are you sure you have not fallen for her? Because it does not seem that way to me,” George said, leaning forward on the table and peering inquisitively into Michael’s eyes, hoping to get the truth from his reaction or facial expression.
“I have not fallen for her, George and do not give me that look, it is the truth,” Michael said, leaning back on the chair he was seated on and picking up his bottle of beer in his hand. “I shouldn’t have listened to you about giving her a call that day you know.” He added, wishing that he had at the very least not tried to make contact with her again after that day, but thinking about it, he wondered if he could have been able to get her off his thought especially after the way they made love the night of his birthday.
“Look who is talking as if you haven’t been enjoying her company.” George said winking an eye at Mike to lighten his mood, “come on Mike, you should not be like this over a girl that was only meant to be for fun.” He added, trying to make Michael relax and get a grip of himself.
Michael peered steadily at him, thinking that he was right about Brenda being fun, but wondered if he was going to be able to forget about her that easily given how he had been into her, “Yea right, it has been fun with her though.” Michael replied, trying to lighten his heart, he shrugged his shoulders afterwards, feeling a little relived now that he had spoken to someone about it.
He knew at the back of his mind that someday this thing he had with Brenda whatever it is, may come to an end, he just didn’t expect it to be too soon and this hard, he had also pictured her with him in his heart and nursed the idea of taking it to another level as he felt that she was into him like he was into her. He turned his gaze on George who has been observing him closely as if he were able to read his thought. “I did not expect her to leave me like this, I thought she would break up with me properly or maybe after a fight or some misunderstanding, not this way, I mean we just had a very hot sex the night before the day she started ditching me,” Michael said, shrugging his shoulder as he spoke.
“I knew it Mike, that you have fallen for her… you just would not admit it,” George said calmly but in a funny way, as he wanted to get Michael’s thought away from Brenda.
“Come on, stop it George.” Michael said, hating that he would still refer to his feelings as love for Brenda, even when he think that was the case as he still wished that things were different. “Will you stop it…” Michael said again when George lowered his gaze and made a funny expression because of his response, his mouth calved in a smile because of his funny expression too.
“What? Is that a smile?” George asked teasingly, feeling happy that he got him to smile which was the reason why he made the funny facial expression.
“No man...” He replied as he peered at George who did the expression again after Michael denied it that he just smiled.
“What the f*ck George,” Michael said, smiling properly now as he gaze at George’s face.
“Yeah, that is a proper smile now Mike, you should smile like that,” George said, feeling happy to see him smile, “are you feeling better now?” he asked to make sure he was feeling better even when he could see him smile.
“Yes George, I am feeling very much relieved now,” he replied with a nod, “you see, I was going a bit crazy in my apartment all by myself.” Michael added, feeling happy that he reached out to George.
“You were not crazy Mike, it was your dick going insane you see... I used to get that all the time…” George said winking an eye at Michael and they both chuckled with laughter at George’s statement.
