Chapter 840: Chapter 840

Lin Chen turned around and saw a young man in international designer brands approaching.

Seeing the young man, Wang Zixuan couldn't help but frown.

The young man looked at Wang Zixuan with a smile and said, "Miss Wang, how come you have time to visit our jade market? Do you also think our jade is better than yours?"

Wang Zixuan snorted coldly, "Dream on. I'm here to buy some jade for my friend."

"Friend?" Peng Yu gave Lin Chen the once-over and, after confirming that Lin Chen was dressed in street stall clothes, a look of disdain appeared on his face.

"What do you do, lad, to have won Miss Wang Zixuan's favor?" Peng Yu asked coldly.

Lin Chen replied with a faint smile, "Me? Just a simple farmer."

"A farmer!" Upon hearing Lin Chen's words, the look of contempt on Peng Yu's face deepened.

"I despise two kinds of people the most – farmers and migrant workers. You dirty lot, you're just the trash of the city," Peng Yu said disdainfully.

"Is that so? Do you know that the food you eat and the house you live in are provided by the very farmers and migrant workers you loathe?" Lin Chen said, his gaze turning icy.

"Psh, they were born to be lowly; of course, and you're just like them. Are you trying to use Zixuan to escape your poor fate?" Peng Yu said coldly.

Lin Chen sneered, "And how would you know what I'm thinking? By the way, judging by your tone, you must be quite close to Zixuan. You ought to give me a discount."

"Of course, how about a 10% discount?" Peng Yu replied nonchalantly.

"10% off? You city folks are stingy, only 10% off after so much haggling," Lin Chen said with a sneer.

Peng Yu gritted his teeth, his face turning ugly at realizing he was being mocked by a rural person.

"Fine, I'll give you a 15% discount for Miss Wang. That's the most I can do," Peng Yu said coldly.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the young owner of the Golden Jade Department Store has agreed to give us a 15% discount. Please be my witnesses so he doesn't back out later," Lin Chen called out loudly to the crowd.

Hearing Lin Chen's words, many people gathered around with great interest.

"Sure, we're willing to be witnesses," the crowd echoed.

A cold smile crossed Peng Yu's lips as he thought, "Such a small-minded rural man, afraid that I'd go back on my word."

Looking disdainfully at Lin Chen, he said, "Lad, rest assured. I, Peng Yu, never go back on my word."

Lin Chen nodded, "That's for the best."

As he spoke, Lin Chen took Wang Zixuan by the hand with a smile and said, "Let's go pick some stones, Zixuan."

Watching Lin Chen lead Wang Zixuan directly into the lower-grade raw stone area, a cold smile appeared on Peng Yu's lips.

The stones in the lower-grade raw stone area have been appraised by experts and are unlikely to yield any high-quality jade; they are very cheap. However, occasionally a few pieces of good jade could still be found.

Every so often, someone would buy a good jade stone for a very low price from amongst them, striking it rich with a single cut.

This further tempted others, luring them into the gambling allure of jade, with the result of many losing their fortunes and destroying their families.

Therefore, the lower-grade raw stone area is the most frequented by gamblers.

Seeing Lin Chen leading her into the area with inferior raw stones, Wang Zixuan also couldn't help but frown.

"Lin Chen, it's really hard to pick out good stones in the lower-grade area," Wang Zixuan said, worried.

"Who says you can't pick out good stones from the lower-grade area? With a bit of luck, you can even find imperial jade," Lin Chen said confidently.

Wang Zixuan couldn't help but laugh at Lin Chen's words.

"What an idiot. Finding imperial jade in the lower-grade area is a once-in-a-century occurrence. How could it be possible?"

Lin Chen activated his clairvoyant vision, and quickly the conditions inside the raw stones became clearly visible to him.

He looked over more than a dozen stones, but they were all worthless.

Peng Yu snorted coldly: "Kid, are you buying or not?"

Lin Chen smiled faintly: "Of course, I am."

As he spoke, Lin Chen casually picked up a rough stone and said lightly, "This one then."

Lin Chen had only glanced at this piece of jade before casually picking it up, and Peng Yu secretly chuckled to himself.

From Lin Chen's actions, Peng Yu could tell this guy was an amateur who didn't understand stone gambling at all.

Wang Zixuan was not an expert in stone gambling either, but since her family ran a jade business, she was somewhat familiar with it from exposure.

"Lin Chen, the stone you picked looks too poor in quality; it's impossible for it to contain jade," Wang Zixuan expressed her concern.

"You guessed wrong. I had a dream last night, where I caught a lot of fish, so I have an intuition that my luck will be good today. This stone will definitely be a Full Jade."

"What? You came to gamble on stones just because you dreamt of catching lots of fish yesterday?" Wang Zixuan's face instantly filled with helplessness.

Peng Yu looked at Lin Chen with contempt: "Kid, with my expertise in stone gambling, I can conclude that your rough stone is a waste rock!"

Lin Chen offered a faint smile: "Since you all say it's a waste rock, let's open it up and see if my luck is really that good."

"You need to cut open this kind of trash stone?" Peng Yu snorted coldly.

Lin Chen smiled faintly and said to a nearby waiter, "I'll take this rough stone, help me cut it open."

"Okay, sir, after the 15% discount, this rough stone will be 688 yuan," the waiter said with a smile.

Lin Chen nodded and paid by card directly.

The waiter took the rough stone to the stone cutting area, where the Stone Cutter, upon seeing the stone, immediately showed a hint of disdain.

After all, this was his trade, and having cut open over ten thousand stones, he felt from the color and touch that this piece was unequivocally a waste rock.

So the Stone Cutter picked up the knife, ready to split the rough stone.

"Hold on, this stone can't be split, it can only be ground," Lin Chen hurriedly interrupted.

The Stone Cutter showed a hint of disdain: "Sir, a stone of this quality has a very small chance of containing jade. Stones are usually split open directly."

Peng Yu's face also displayed a hint of disdain: "I think you're crazy with dreams of getting rich. Do you still think your rough stone is a Full Jade?"

Lin Chen smiled faintly: "Whether it's Full Jade or not, we'll know after grinding it."

The Stone Cutter glanced at Peng Yu, who nodded, and then he began to grind the stone.

A cold sneer spread across Peng Yu's face, and he had even thought of how to mock Lin Chen once his stone produced no jade.

The Stone Cutter started the process, and the rough stone Lin Chen had chosen was as big as a bowl. Ten minutes passed, and still, there was nothing.

The onlookers grew impatient after a while, and their expressions showed their irritation.

"It's been so long without any jade; it's certain that it won't have any."

"Exactly, how could a stone of this quality contain jade."

"Just cut it already, don't waste our time."

Listening to the discussions around him, Peng Yu's smile became increasingly pronounced.

"Kid, I know you want to get rich, but some people are just born to be poor," Peng Yu mocked coldly.

Lin Chen ignored Peng Yu and watched the Stone Cutter's hands intently as he worked with the rough stone.

"Hold on," Lin Chen suddenly stopped the Stone Cutter from continuing to grind.

The crowd shook their heads, thinking that Lin Chen had given up, but instead, Lin Chen said to the Stone Cutter, "Take a break, let me do it."

"Damn, this guy is too stubborn, he still hasn't given up!" Many people looked at Lin Chen with a mocking gaze.
