Chapter 680: Chapter 680

Lin Chen opened the mobile app and scrolled down, only to see that the second place clearly belonged to a group called "Bloodkill Hall".

"Second place is Bloodkill Hall, huh!" remarked Lin Chen after taking a glance.

Milly's cheeks flushed red, "Who told you to scroll from the top down? You should have scrolled from the bottom up."

Lin Chen finally understood; this 'second' wasn't second place from the top but second to last instead.

"If you had said second to last right away, it would have been clear," said Lin Chen as he scrolled to the very bottom of the list.

"Big Boss Milly, I've got to break some harsh truth to you, and you've got to brace for the blow—you guys seem to have dropped to dead last now," Lin Chen declared, eyeing the rankings on his phone.

Blood Rose was starkly in the last position.

"How is this possible? Our ranking has always been stable," Milly snatched the phone away.

At that moment, Mina, who was driving, also showed a slight change in her expression.

Breaking into the top five hundred had cost her a great effort—nearly selling off all her family's assets—only to find she might be squeezed out in less than a month.

Seeing the gloomy expressions of the two sisters, Lin Chen said with a light chuckle, "May I ask why you two chose to become assassins?"

In Lin Chen's mind, these sisters would have been incredibly successful in more glamorous pursuits, but as assassins, they seemed to lack both the intelligence and the strength necessary for the job!

A firm look appeared in Milly's eyes, "This is my dream. Our father was an assassin, and he was once top-ranked in the world's assassin leaderboard. But last year, he took on a mission and was betrayed and killed. We want to avenge him."

Listening to Milly's words, Lin Chen was rendered speechless, "Your father wouldn't want you to seek vengeance for him, would he?"

Mina spoke indifferently, "My father's biggest dream was to have a son to inherit his mantle and expand the organization. It was like a cosmic joke when he had two daughters in a row instead, disappointing him profoundly. We want to prove to him that girls can be assassins too."

"You two are really something else," Lin Chen said, shaking his head helplessly.

"Would you be willing to join us in Blood Rose?" Milly suddenly asked.

"I'd rather not," Lin Chen refused directly, shaking his head.

"Why? We could become the most famous assassin organization," said Milly earnestly.

Lin Chen smiled faintly, "Haven't you heard the saying? Fear not the god-like enemy but the pig-like teammate. Teaming up with you would get me killed."

"You're the pig-like teammate!" Milly retorted angrily.

Finally, after a day's drive, they arrived at Bagu Town, a place enveloped in a mysterious aura.

On the streets, rows of black statues stood on either side, casting an unsettling feeling.

However, what surprised Lin Chen was the town's wealth; luxury cars were everywhere, and the people carried and wore international brands. This was clearly a town of the rich!

"No wonder you wanted to join the Black Court cult—joining them seems to make you rich!" Lin Chen joked.

Milly glared at Lin Chen, "We didn't join the Black Court for money!"

"So the purpose of joining the Black Court couldn't be to resurrect your father, could it?" Lin Chen's expression shifted slightly.

Mina nodded and smiled, "The Cult Leader said that as long as we are pure of heart and build up enough good karma, we can bring our father back to life."

"That's impossible, how could there be such a thing as resurrection in this world," Lin Chen shook his head.

Lin Chen, who possessed the popular system, knew such an incredible feat wasn't possible even with such an impressive system; he didn't believe the people of the Black Court could achieve it.

"Hmph, you're not allowed to doubt the Cult Leader," Mina shot back irritably.

Just then, the town's public announcement system started broadcasting, and both Milly and Mina got out of the car to join in the prayers along with the gospel coming from the speakers.

Lin Chen looked around him; aside from himself, everyone was devoutly holding up their hands in prayer.

"Damn, the Black Heting Sect is quite popular in this town!"

Nobody knew the true nature of the Black Heting Sect better than Lin Chen. Back when he caused a commotion in Kunlun, if it weren't for them, Xiao Wen wouldn't have fallen into a deep, unwakeable sleep.

Once the prayers were finished, everyone continued with their own affairs.

Milly told Lin Chen, "Once you join the Black Heting Sect, you'll have to pray every day, understand?"

"Mm," Lin Chen nodded.

However, Lin Chen had no intention of joining the Black Heting Sect. On the contrary, he wanted to figure out the real intention behind the sect's control of the town.

Mina parked the car in front of a restaurant, and the three of them got out.

As they entered the restaurant, Lin Chen said with a smile, "Ladies, let me treat you!"

Milly shook her head, "In our town, eating is free of charge, and so is everything else."

"What the heck, there's such a good place?" Lin Chen was stunned.

Lin Chen went ahead and ordered a table full of rare delicacies; after all, it wasn't going to cost him anything.

"With such a great place, why isn't the population here very large?" Lin Chen asked, puzzled.

Milly explained, "To enter this town, one must join the Black Heting Sect, and to join, one must pass a physical and a mental test. Only those who meet the criteria can join."

"I see," Lin Chen said as he listened to the conversations around him. He felt that everyone held great respect for Pope Toma, treating him almost like a deity.

Glancing at her watch, Mina said, "It's almost time. Soon I'll take you to witness Pope Toma's grace."

Lin Chen nodded. He was very curious about Pope Toma and suddenly remembered someone.

"Could Xu Ye also be here, and could this Pope being the hooded figure?"

After the meal, everyone on the street moved orderly towards the square.

Lin Chen observed the people around him; their expressions were normal, and there was nothing wrong with their bodies.

Just after they left, in a corner, a woman wearing sunglasses revealed a cold smile.

"I didn't expect this guy to come here. His sense of smell is really sensitive!"

However, the townspeople's expressions were filled with a worshipful gaze, their eyes fixed on the grand Black Heting Sect cathedral in the center of the square.

As music began to play, the grand doors of the church slowly opened.

Everyone put their hands on their chests, devoutly looking towards the opening doors.

Lin Chen watched the door, a trace of coldness flickering in his eyes.

Soon, a middle-aged man dressed in red clerical clothing walked out, surrounded by a dozen followers.

Looking at the man, Lin Chen was somewhat disappointed; he was neither the hooded figure nor Xu Ye, and Lin Chen had never seen him before.

"My children, today we gather here, and I am honored to tell you that ten of our townspeople have reached the divine realm's standards. They will have the opportunity to enter the temple and receive the baptism of the supreme god," Pope Toma spoke solemnly.

Earnest applause burst from the crowd, with everyone looking at the ten individuals in front of the podium with great envy.

With a gentle wave of Pope Toma's hand, magically, seven-colored halos appeared behind the ten people!

Watching Pope Toma's gesture, Lin Chen's gaze suddenly sharpened, because as Toma performed the spell, the jade pendant hanging around his neck suddenly lit up.
