Chapter 1655: Chapter 1655
Samao hid behind a tree, crouching with his buttocks poking out, his face full of panic. At first, he thought there were only two people, but soon bullets were coming from all directions, and Samao was bewildered. He felt as if he were being attacked by an army. Could it be that those Vietnamese monkeys had revolted? Otherwise, where did all these people come from?
A few people lay beside him as well, a mix of Black and White bodyguards, also scared out of their wits. At this moment, they could hardly protect themselves, let alone Samao.
The screams of his subordinates were tormenting Samao. He couldn’t comprehend who was behind this attack.
Finally, the gunfire ceased, and only the cries of his own people remained around him. Samao wasn’t relieved; instead, he grew even more nervous, feeling as if he couldn’t breathe, on the verge of suffocation.
Suddenly, the forest became quiet. Even the cries were diminishing, as if those who were injured had already died... Samao shivered at the thought, grabbed a bodyguard beside him, and shouted in English, "Protect me, quickly, protect me."
The bodyguard grimaced, thinking to himself, fuck your mother, I protect you? I don’t even know who can protect me!
"Crack..." Footsteps approached, sounding like shoes snapping branches. A man in Vietnamese military uniform appeared in front of Samao, wearing tall military boots taken from a White bodyguard. Li Yifei didn’t mind how long the boots had been worn, as his own shoes got torn just now.
Li Yifei stood in front of Samao, looking down at him.
Samao lay on the ground, looking at Li Yifei. To him, all Asians looked similar, so he subconsciously thought his earlier guess was correct—that the opponent was indeed those damn Vietnamese monkeys who had betrayed him!
Best not to let me out of here, or I’ll definitely kill you all, Samao thought viciously to himself.
But soon, Samao realized that this person wasn’t one of those Vietnamese. Firstly, he was too tall, and his skin wasn’t as dark as those Vietnamese monkeys. If you looked closely, his features were different.
Most importantly, beside this man stood a woman, very beautiful. From a Westerner’s perspective like Samao’s, she was stunningly beautiful, even with some mud on her face, it didn’t detract from her beauty.
Out of over a hundred people Samao brought this time, not a single woman was among them. Even if any of his subordinates had needs, they would rely on their hands or teammates...
And this beautiful woman in front of him was holding a gun, pointing at him and a few bodyguards, exuding a stern aura. Samao shivered in his soul, suddenly realizing who these two might be.
These were the man and woman who came in first, reportedly very powerful. If it weren’t for the two of them, Samao wouldn’t have made it in here, regardless of how many people he brought. And now, the two harbingers of death had appeared.
Samao raised his head, eyes flustered as he asked, "My subordinates, are they... all dead?"
Li Yifei smiled slightly, replying, "They tried to kill me, so naturally they had to die."
Samao’s lips twitched several times. Half had died from a giant python attack, but that was still more than fifty people. He sent out two squads, leaving him with over thirty men. Yet, the two squads, in less than half an hour, were all wiped out silently.
This man and woman were undoubtedly devils, the most terrifying devils!
Samao suddenly didn’t know what to say, pale-faced and looking at Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan, trembling with cold.
Samao, who had seen much life and death, had no shortage of people under him, and was bold himself, often pointing guns at others’ heads, and likewise being on the receiving end, but never before did he tremble like now just at the sight of people.
So, at this moment, Samao lay on the ground, looking like a puddle.
Xu Shanshan walked over, disarmed the bodyguards’ guns, and tossed them aside.
Li Yifei asked Samao how he learned about this place and how he knew about him and Xu Shanshan.
Samao had a hidden identity. He was actually a drug dealer, traveling between the Golden Triangle and North America, considered a big drug lord, so money was no issue. A few days ago, he suddenly learned of this news from a small-time drug dealer, saying someone had entered a forest to hunt for treasure, and so on. The other party spoke firmly, claiming there was an unparalleled treasure in that forest, which would allow one to live carefree for the rest of their life without any need for drug dealing if acquired.
Upon entering the valley and seeing the massive animals, Samao truly believed that his trip had been worthwhile, and there must be countless treasures waiting inside.
As to how the small-time drug dealer knew, Samao wasn’t certain. He wasn’t one to easily trust others, so upon hearing the news, he immediately sent someone to investigate. They discovered there really was such a rumor, and indeed, a man and a woman had entered days ago, which matched the rumor. So Samao thought of bringing a team in; if the other parties found the treasure, he would kill them and take it. If they didn’t, then he would search for it himself.
As for how the small-time drug dealer came to know these things, Samao wasn’t clear. Anyway, that person had already been fed to the fish.
Li Yifei listened with a frown but showed no expression as the other finished speaking. The news of their venture had been known to almost no one, save for those at home and, perhaps, some border inspectors. Even the documents used for their exit were fake, just in case, since it was unclear how many were secretly following the name Li Yifei, or how many had the authority to check his travel records and the like. As Li Yifei remained silent, he filtered information in his mind, pondering which link had failed, leading to the leak.
Over the years, leaks had continuously plagued the Li family. Li Yifei had been secretly investigating, and so had Su Mengxin and Xu Yingying, searching for a possible mole. The leak not only endangered the Li family but also symbolized internal discord, and they couldn’t afford daily suspicion.
The information the other party knew seemed scarce but was significant, even including details of their pair. Was it leaked by someone at home? Or was it those five experts?
Would they do such a thing? What purpose would it serve?
Xu Shanshan noticed Li Yifei seemed deep in thought and saw Samao moving slightly, so she aimed her gun at him, a warning in her eyes.
"Please, don’t kill me. I’ll pay, I have a lot of money, I can buy my own life!" Samao, seeing Li Yifei return from his daze, quickly said, "I’ll give you ten million, no, a hundred million, to spare my life—it’s in U.S. dollars!"
Li Yifei glanced at him, shaking his head slowly, "Since you chose to come in, you should be prepared to die." ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡•𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚•𝙣𝙚𝙩
Samao sweated profusely, saying, "I... I didn’t expect this. I can pay more; I have over three hundred million U.S. dollars deposited in the Swiss Bank. If you let me go, I’ll give it all to you. That money will ensure you live well for a lifetime."
Li Yifei raised his hand, aiming the gun at Samao, who leaned back in despair, frantically waving his hand, pleading, "No, no, don’t, I beg you."
Swish... A white flash shot through the leaves towards Li Yifei. It was extremely fast and silent, and by the time Li Yifei noticed it, it was too late. The white flash struck his wrist.
Li Yifei felt a sharp pain in his wrist as his gun was knocked from his hand, flying away.
At the same time, a similar white flash targeted Xu Shanshan, striking her weapon. The immense force caused Xu Shanshan to lose her grip, and her gun dropped too.
The two were simultaneously attacked, looking toward the person ten meters to their side, both were taken aback. It wasn’t being hit that was surprising, but the fact that the opponent had approached so silently. Even though Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan were Innate Experts with formidable perception, able to detect others breathing within several dozen meters, they hadn’t noticed this approach, not even when distracted.
The wrist injuries weren’t severe, just the loss of their guns.
Before them stood a man, not more than 1.65 meters tall, considered short among men. He wore similar attire to Li Yifei, suggesting he was also a local hired by Samao. Standing there, his eyes were partly closed.
One of his hands was hidden in his sleeve, while the other held an oddly shaped knife, short, with patterns and a hollow in the middle.
This man was quite unremarkable, even ugly, so much so that he could walk unnoticed for an hour on the street. Yet he was the one who threw the white objects, hitting Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan, and stealthily approaching within ten meters of them, remaining undetected.
A master! Li Yifei eyed him sharply, stepping forward with two strides, shaking his right hand to circulate True Qi to heal his wrist. The force had been sufficient to shatter bone, but thanks to Li Yifei’s robust physique, he was unharmed. A regular person would likely be wracked with pain, clutching their wrist.
Not only was he a master, but Li Yifei and Xu Shanshan realized they couldn’t sense his aura at all, suggesting he used a special method to conceal it unless he chose to reveal it himself.
Or maybe, he rivaled their mastery, possibly even surpassing it, making him imperceptible.
Samao and a few of his guards, who had thought they were going to die, found hope in the sudden appearance of this man who intercepted the deadly pair. Samao was overjoyed, recognizing the short man, exclaiming, "Aren’t you... aren’t you Ruan Xiaotian? Quick, quick, save me. I’ll give you a million... no, a ten million if you save me! Once we’re out, the money is yours!"
Samao, seemingly grabbing onto a lifeline, hastily promised a fortune to buy Ruan Xiaotian’s allegiance.
